My wife and I each tried the 6 course tasting menu and each plate was spectacular. Unique flavor profiles, creative uses of pickled items, with awesome presentations. I went into the restaurant very hungry and each plate was well portioned and we left perfectly full. 12/10 would not miss this place.
Next level brilliant cuisine.
Consistently amazing and it only gets better each time I go. I take all my friends here and they rave about it. Don’t change a thing!!
Best restaurant
Great food
Delicious tapas, with plenty of vegetarian options. Incredible flavor combinations!!! Casual place with extraordinary taste. Service was excellent, recommendations spot on!
A hole in the wall find- fantastic!! The food was creative and terrific. The service couldn’t have been better. Interesting wine list. A pleasantly surprising find.
Loved everything about my visit to Sorghum and Salt! This is the perfect place for a date night or anniversary dinner. The combinations of food and how well they blended together was unlike any dining experience I have ever had. Highly recommend selecting the Chefs Tasting Menu as this allows you to taste a little of everything they have to offer. I will be back!
My new favorite spot.
Had an amazing experience here. Food was amazing, if you’re up for a bit of an adventure try the chef’s tasting!
One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. We did the four course chefs tasting menu and everything was perfect. The chef Tres created some truly wonderful dishes where ingredients were paired perfectly, it was truly a wonderful experience.
Super creative dishes using locally sourced ingredients. We shared several and loved every one of them.
Primo spot. Flavor profiles on the dishes were crazy and clearly expertly chosen. Would recommend.
Second time here. Service was a bit uneven, one of the dishes we ordered was forgotten and came out 20 minutes late. Inventive small plates, worth a try if you like vegetarian/vegan/light on animal protein. Root vegetable dishes were best at our table. Portions are adequate.
Food and staff were WONDERFUL! Great for a date night and we were able to take our time ordering a dish or two at once and then kept ordering.
Amazing meal and service! One of the best restaurants in Charleston—hands down.
Excellent food and service
I'd say it's good, I didn't leave disappointed, but the menu is small and the dessert menu was very small. The food was good but I wasn't wowed. Overall a fine experience, but with so many options in charleston, not sure I'd return.
One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time! Everything was perfect. The service was amazing!
Phenomenal!! Gina was our server and made us feel right at home. She was very kind and knowledgeable. The kitchen kept a perfect pace and every time we finished one course, the next course immediately followed. The ricotta, short rib and beet desserts were amount our favorites. Highly recommend you check this place out!!
What an outstanding dinner!!! We could not chose so we ordered the tasting menu. Since leaving I have told everyone about the amazing food and service. It was the highlight of our trip and I can’t wait to go back!!!
Thank for a fantastic dinner. Every dish was excellent and we appreciate how you were able to adapt several of your dishes to GF for my son. We truly value your sincere concern. The presentation was beautifully artistic and unique. The Trigger Fish entree, the chicken dish and the short rib plate were all delicious! Our favorite of the five smaller/shared plates was the rutabagas but we loved them all! Thank you for a fun and yummy dining experience- we will certainly be back!
Incredible short rib and white chocolate mousse dessert.
Amazing. Everything about the experience was top notch.
Best food in Charleston. Excellent!
I did the tasting menu which is at the counter. The chef and staff were all great and super knowledgeable about the menu and all ingredients. They try to locally sourced as much as possible, which is always a great feature when you’re visiting somewhere to try local fare. I was there at 7:30pm during COVID so the restaurant could only legally be at 50% capacity but it filled up as the evening went on and the ambience was great. Non-pretentious and you could dress up or be casual and still feel comfortable. Highly recommend.
We sat at the “bar” facing the kitchen and got to chat with all of the kitchen staff. The food was amazing, the ambiance was perfect and we absolutely loved then vibe of this place.
We love this place. The food is interesting and delicious! Vibe is verrrrry low key.
My absolute favorite restaurant in the USA!
Excellent farm-to-table menu. Lots of vegetarian options on the menu. Great service.
Absolutely delicious. Local and fresh. Thoughtful, small and scrumptious.
Sat at the chefs counter. Delicious!!
Excellent quality food for Valentines Day prefix-fix dinner
But appetizer portion (I’ve seen larger postage stamps) and main course dishes were way, way too small for a $75/pp price tag
Great food combinations unique. The corn bread was dried out.
Would go again but the seats were very uncomfortable. People in my group felt the same way.
Staff were great, knowledgeable. We did have a loud party next to us and the staff were apologetic.
Flavor profiles were unique, Chef knows what he is doing.
The restaurant is off the beaten path.
Go visit!
The vegetable options are unique and plentiful; yet, nothing is outstanding. The crab and cucumber appetizer narrowly misses the mark of very good; but then, the crab falls into the green juices at the bottom of the low bowl and disintegrates. The chef is certainly trying to make a go of it!
I can see behind the costume of the restaurant that cuts decorating corners under the guise of being Earthy, natural, or farm-to-table. As such, the decision is made to increase the neglect of the restaurant space by adding more hints of squalor instead of more hints of money. Shabby was not chic in the 80's and it certainly isn't in 2020, especially in Charleston, SC. Save it for Austin, Texas where the college crowd has overrun the city.
I dined at the end of a Saturday evening and nearly every table had dishes that had not been cleared. Nor, did it seem that cleaning was on the agenda until after closing. Last, it is not a plus to see into the kitchen; although, one might argue that it lessens the fear that "undesirables" may be lurking amongst the cartons and bottles piled on every surface. The kitchen looked clean enough, but messy.
Although the staff was kind and fairly good at their jobs, it seemed they had no plan of action. At the very least, an additional person to bus the tables is in order in the near future.
All in all, I would hire the chef in a heartbeat. He has a gift, but needs a bit of discipline, or at least, less on his plate. Go early in the evening and steer clear of the animal protein as it was not a strength.
After hearing my coworker rave about this place, I made a reservation for my husband and I. We arrived about 15 minutes early just to wait at the hostess stand for several minutes before ever being greeted. When we finally were acknowledged, we were told “it’s going to be a while before I can get to you.” I said “we have reservations.” She said “oh great, well the only table I have is on this side (I assume the more casual side, not the actual dining room)” so we took that. Then we didn’t get any menus or anything for another maybe 10-15 minutes. And it just continued that way. The food? Great, no complaints at all. But I’m giving my friends warnings “great food, slow and lacking service.” To be a little fair, the girl was nice enough, but she was making excuses then saying she was going to give us more attention.. that just never happened. Since we were sitting by the door, I overheard several people leaving saying to one another “takes forever to get out of this place.” So I guess we weren’t the only ones.
We had an early dinner right when the place opened and Tres took very good care of us... he was short handed that evening but the food was still on par and he paid us very appreciated personal attention. The food is inventive, creative, not meat-heavy and takes advantage of the local area producers... which means we’re getting a taste of South Carolina every time! We dine here often when we’re on business in Charleston, and will be back.
The service and hospitality was impeccable. Food was incredibly good and so tasty and unique.
We were visiting from out of town and this place was a gem! The food was excellent and there were many vegetarian-friendly options. The staff members were very nice and polite, and the decor was fun and eclectic. We will definitely return if visiting Charleston again.
