The best meal I’ve had in Charleston. So happy I got across this restaurant. I had blue crab and smoked trout which were light, flavorful and totally delicious. Will definitely go back here.
We had the tasting menu with wine pairing so we got stuff we never would have ordered off the wine list or a la carte menu. It was an eye opener. I can't remember each wine, they were all delicious, but the knockout was a Sicilian white I'd never heard of but will definitely keep an eye out for next time I'm in a liquor store. Same with the food. All great but most memorable was house made ricotta with parsley oil and grilled focaccia. I never would have picked it but so glad I got it! If Sorghum and Salt were in NYC I think Pete Wells would award at least 3 maybe 4 stars. Also loved the funky ambience and friendly wait staff.
You should definitely eat at Sorghum and Salt when you visit Charleston, SC. The menu is very creative and interesting. I recommend that you share at least four selections - the waiters are well - informed and will give you good suggestions. The vertical Roots wedge salad was so delicious I would eat it every day if I could! We also loved the Parisian gnocchi and the chard acorn squash. We thought the eggplant with whipped Parmesan was just ok.
It is important to know that their “patio” is the front sidewalk. There is a steady stream of traffic on Coming Street which was slightly annoying but would not keep us from eating here again.
We were placed at the bar, it was a little tight to the wall. But we were able to converse with the chef who was prepping dessert and sides at end of the bar. Was extremely impressed with the menu, filled with creative flavor combinations and excellent execution of them.
My vegan option was quite tasteless, so I’m happy they deny to give me the Vegan tasting menu, as after trying a starter, a main and the dessert, I can say everything was pretty tasteless..
They didn’t have the shishitos, which I was expecting to have as it was not the season for it, but even with seasonal ingredients, food was tasteless as already been said..
My non vegan friend have a rough meat, he wasn’t happy with, also, they deny to sell to me the tasting menu because he wasn’t having one, when he is pretty much overweight so has a bit of a restricted diet, me, I should be able to eat whatever the heck I want, but they won’t be understanding about different people, different appetites, and different sizes..
Will never go again, and won’t even recommend, as a vegan, as an omni..
Checkout Basic Kitchen, The Rarebit, nice tasty vegan options..
The chef and his crew create an absolutely genius menu and never cease to amaze with their execution of the dishes. So much flavor and an overall amazing experience. A very personal setting that comforts you while they fill you up. We can’t wait to go back again soon!
We went there on the recommendation of a good friend in the business - and the 5 of us ordered almost the entire menu (skipped 2 small plates and a few others). Everything was outstanding - served whenever it was ready (as we requested), everyone shared all of the plates and the creativity of the chef was exceptional and the quality of the food was sublime. They even had a great vegan menu (not that I needed it, but my son sure appreciated it). We had every dessert except the key lime pie (and I’m sure that would have been delicious) - they were the perfect size to share and each was better than the one before.
Can’t recommend a Charleston restaurant any higher, which is saying something.
Incredible farm-to-table food. Chefs tasting menu impressed!
We had 7 in our group and ate outside on the patio. The service was terrific and the food fantastic. We had multiple people in our group, including vegan and vegetarian and all were satisfied and enjoyed the tastings. We loved the shared plates as you can eat as much or as little as you want. Would recommend and definitely will be visiting on our next trip to Charleston.
Everything was wonderful. The serving team was fantastic! Wine pairing is well worth it 🍷
One of the best places for farm-to-table you will eat at in town!
Loved it! Thank you for a wonderful evening! We will return
I was truly blown away by my meal here. I have eaten at many places downtown and this was by far my favorite. The food was absolutely stunning and exquisitely prepared. Our server was fun and attentive. The whole place is very humble and homey. Would 100% reccomend and I cannot wait to go there again.
best in Charleston from a New Orleans food snob, food is surprising and energetic with complex depths
Amazing dinner and wonderful service! Happy to support small and local!
The 7 course chefs special was amazing. Although the serving sizes were small the quality and uniqueness of each dish was a n absolute treat. Well worth the 70 per person.
Every visit I love this place more! I tell everyone about it.
Amazing food from the tasting menu...the wine pairings were perfect.. I not only ate two foods I never thought I would but enjoyed the hell out of it. We would highly suggest anyone try this.
One of my favorite restaurants in Charleston. Super creative and delicious food.
Great food and service in a downtown neighborhood. Menu was creative and service was attentive.
Great food, terrible chairs, service needs to improve.
Exquisite food, love the fusion of flavors. We ordered the 6 course sample. Sat at 6:45pm and received the check at 9:30pm not because we were still eating or drinking, it was because they forgot about us. It was sad to see other tables of two seated after us, getting the same 6 course and they were done before us. Multiple times had to signal the server to remind him we were still there. Now, the chairs...horrible and uncomfortable, meant for skinny people.
My wife and I each tried the 6 course tasting menu and each plate was spectacular. Unique flavor profiles, creative uses of pickled items, with awesome presentations. I went into the restaurant very hungry and each plate was well portioned and we left perfectly full. 12/10 would not miss this place.
Next level brilliant cuisine.
Consistently amazing and it only gets better each time I go. I take all my friends here and they rave about it. Don’t change a thing!!
Delicious tapas, with plenty of vegetarian options. Incredible flavor combinations!!! Casual place with extraordinary taste. Service was excellent, recommendations spot on!
A hole in the wall find- fantastic!! The food was creative and terrific. The service couldn’t have been better. Interesting wine list. A pleasantly surprising find.
Loved everything about my visit to Sorghum and Salt! This is the perfect place for a date night or anniversary dinner. The combinations of food and how well they blended together was unlike any dining experience I have ever had. Highly recommend selecting the Chefs Tasting Menu as this allows you to taste a little of everything they have to offer. I will be back!
My new favorite spot.
Had an amazing experience here. Food was amazing, if you’re up for a bit of an adventure try the chef’s tasting!
One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. We did the four course chefs tasting menu and everything was perfect. The chef Tres created some truly wonderful dishes where ingredients were paired perfectly, it was truly a wonderful experience.
Super creative dishes using locally sourced ingredients. We shared several and loved every one of them.
Primo spot. Flavor profiles on the dishes were crazy and clearly expertly chosen. Would recommend.
Second time here. Service was a bit uneven, one of the dishes we ordered was forgotten and came out 20 minutes late. Inventive small plates, worth a try if you like vegetarian/vegan/light on animal protein. Root vegetable dishes were best at our table. Portions are adequate.
Food and staff were WONDERFUL! Great for a date night and we were able to take our time ordering a dish or two at once and then kept ordering.
Amazing meal and service! One of the best restaurants in Charleston—hands down.
Excellent food and service
I'd say it's good, I didn't leave disappointed, but the menu is small and the dessert menu was very small. The food was good but I wasn't wowed. Overall a fine experience, but with so many options in charleston, not sure I'd return.
