Sorensons (at Wylder HV) hit right. This was the second time we ate in the mountains here, and from an ambiance perspective you feel the coziness: the snow piles out the window, the wood fired stove heating the building.
The meal though and service was transcendent. We opened with a winter salad (the watermelon radish sliced thin, walnuts, roasted slices of plentiful beets, balanced out with chèvre hit so right). I had the NY Strip with peppercorns and the sauce was so tasty but not heavy, and steak PERFECTLY cooked through (chef made a ribeye on a castiron last fall that was also unforgettable, power went out in the kitchen - it’s the mountains this is why you come here - and used fire to grill for us). My partner had the linguine shrimp - the shrimp were like lobsters.
Desert you can’t go wrong, this time we had the mixed berry cobbler with homemade biscuit and a generous scoop of ice cream. We feel lucky to have experienced such a unique meal in a space that has been preserved over the years. The folks that work there care about their craft, and for me this is a destination dinner off the beaten path.
Outstanding ambiance, exceptional food and perfect service
Such a lovely family dining experience. I love.
We had a NY eve dinner and where absolutely satisfied. All above and beyond, little cozy place with authentic atmosphere, not big menu but quality of food was great. Would definitely recommend!
New Years Eve
We just loved this place! Our serve was so sweet and made mulled wine for me eventhough the bar was not open that day. It made my evening! Sitting next to tons of snow but still being totally warm in the clear tent was magical.
A lovely, personal warm reception by Brandon, Anna, Ross and all. Cozy yurt bar with live music by talented Josh on acoustic guitar. Excellent dinner by wood stove in dining room. An overall unexpected and amazing experience.
It was too cold and the host did not make arrangements proper enough to have a meal, we had to get the food packed and eat it at home as it was too cold. The food was delicious though, i just wished we could have enjoyed it at the restaurant .
Everything was amazing! Great food!
Such a small quite place to enjoy good company, drinks and amazing food!
We had such an amazing night. The food was great and service was on point.
We live in Carson Valley and had wanted to try this. We went on Sunday night for our anniversary and had a cozy table by the fire. JC and Jaimie were amazingly attentive. The burrata was fresh and my steak excellent. They have a heated tent outside with a bar and tables to eat. Live music a few nights per week. A great find for locals looking for good food, friendly service and a special experience.
Our meal was pretty fantastic. I had the beef stew and took some back to yurt which I ate for breakfast later with a croissant while sitting in the camp fire🔥
Unfortunately, the restaurant was the only disappointment of our stay at the resort. My wife and I had made reservations weeks in advance for a 7pm dinner during our stay in one of the cabins. When we arrived at 7, we were directed to wait at the bar until our table was ready, which was totally fine. In fact, the bartender was very personable, hospitable and my wife and I really enjoyed her company. When we were finally seated an hour later at the cafe, our waiter did not acknowledge us for at least 10 minutes. Additionally I noticed two other couples who came in after us get seated first. Still not a big deal. Finally after greeting us, the waiter said the dinner menu was closed and only appetizers were available. This was especially frustrating because my wife and I planned dinner at the resort, so didn’t bring food with us. The waiter beat around the bush and would not tell me why we couldn’t order dinner, until finally making an exception. Our food was way sub par. My ribeye looked like an Omaha steak and my wife’s shrimp scampi was undercooked, to the point the shrimp was inedible. A little steep for $45 a plate. Additionally, the staff made us feel like an inconvenience and overall made us very uncomfortable. Overall it our a huge dampener on our stay at the resort as a whole. Turns out there was a gas leak in the kitchen, If the waiter had just been fourth coming it wouldn’t have been a big deal at all. The setting itself is nice, clean and fun, but the food and service is nothing to write home about. If you stay at the resort, I recommend cooking your own food in the cabin.
The food was amazing and they were very accommodating to our vegetarian needs.
We look forward to eating there often and to bringing friends and family with us!
Fantastic food & wine in a wonderful ambiance. Kid friendly! The beef stew is a must!
Bathrooms out of order. No place to wash hands. Over an hour wait for food even with reservations
Great food and wonderful service. John the owner of Wylder’s and Ross (and woman who we didn’t get her name) , were engaging and wonderful hosts. Hope to make our stay at Wyler’s and dinner at Sorenson Cafe an annual fall foliage event.
Each staff member we encountered on our multiple day/meal visit was exceptional. Very attentive and extremely friendly! Enjoyed each meal we had too from breakfasts, lunches, and dinners.
We were staying at the Wylder resort and went to dinner there two nights in a row. Both nights were amazing….food, ambience…everything! Literally everyone working there was so friendly! Get the burrata appetizer….OMG best ever!!!!
The family owned atmosphere was perfectly combined with farm fresh ingredients in an amazing meal. We had a magical evening in the outdoor seating section and would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a different dining experience in the Tahoe area!
We love the Sorensen's location. New owners are still finding their stride.
Food was lovely and the staff were amazing during the expansion of the Tamarack Fire. Hope they are all safe and well.
A beautiful setting to eat perfectly cooked fish in.
Wonderful tasty food and a lovely staff in a beautiful setting!
The dinner was way overpriced, and way overcooked. Then someone thought someone thought it was a good idea to power was the porch at 7:00 A.M. in the morning!
The food and service were terrific. The outdoor scene was family friendly and beautiful. Great place to dine for this city guy!
This is a wonderful place to recharge or enjoy a delicious meal. The ambiance is fantastic, the staff wonderful and the setting is stunning. We went for our 37th Anniversary and enjoyed everything. I’m picky about trout and I can’t express how delicious, fresh and beautifully presented their trout is!! My husband had the rib eye and the same compliments were delivered. We will be back, again and again! Oh, and the cocktails are delicious, too! Thank yiu for a wonderful and delicious evening!!
Great food in a nice setting right off Highway 89
The staff were great . I had the trout. It was great except there was a hair in it . My hubby had beef burgundy stew . It tasted good but there was very little meat in it. 27 dollars for a small bowl of stew with not much meat seems expensive . 39 dollars for trout and veggies is high as well . These meals came with no salad or bread to share. I realize Tahoe is a resort area but we spent over a hundred dollars not including a tip and left hungry.
Beautiful setting, just the escape we needed. Food was excellent!
Relaxing and beautiful in the mountains
We were looking forward to a tasty meal. The ambience was wonderful but the awful music was loud. Definitely not fitted for the fine dining atmosphere we were expecting. We were disappointed in the Burrata for $25 as it had three pieces of BURNT bread, hardly any balsamic reduction on the dish. Most importantly it was noted on the menu to have heirloom tomatoes, but in stead they were awful hard untasteful tomatoes, not sure where they got them. It would have been better to have small cherry tomatoes on the dish. Also had the server informed us of the issue, we wouldn't have ordered the Burrata. We ordered more bread for the dish and to our AMAZEMENT they brought us two small pieces and CHARGED us $4.00!!! I can get a whole loaf of sour dough homemade bread for $1.99 at my store in the Mtns.
The Green salad was okay, nothing special for $13. The $32 Ricotta Gnocchi was not even lukewarm (COLD) and the serving size was very small. The berry cobbler was the best thing we ordered for a whopping $14.
We didn't mention the issues above herein as we were hoping the rest of the meal would work out, but it just got worse. We walked away tipping 20%, on a $154.44 awful dinner and was totally disappointed. We will never go there and will be sure to let others know as we're local to the area.
Casual dining experience with tables and benches for the outdoor dining. The food was good, but not outstanding. There was only one waitress who was running the whole time. But being outside surrounded by the forest with a deep blue sky cant be beat. I had indicated that it was our anniversary in the reservation, but there was no mention of it during our time there.
great ambiance. love the outdoor space
Magical setting with great outdoor seating- we had a wonderful dinner! The roasted vegetable appetizer was especially delicious- we’ll be back!
Excellent food in a beautiful location
Great service and excellent food. Would recommend for a rustic and casual meal. Good menu selection and well priced wine list. Cocktails were good and well worth having. A bit noisy because of the highway traffic but for a outdoor venue not bad.
Great food, great service. We were outside, so noise was not a factor. We had a rib eye and ordered a vegetable, also the gnocchi. The desserts were great, too.
Had a great dinner here after taking a hike up the mountain behind the resort. An amazing combination!9
