Sophia's Ratings and Reviews
Really a great restaurant! We were happy with everything from the ambiance to the food to the cocktails and wine to the service.
We ordered several half-orders of pasta so we could try more items, then split the chicken under a brick - all were delicious! Also had the meatballs w/burrata as an appetizer - equally delicious!
They have a great menu of hand-crafted cocktails, including barrel-aged cocktails. I had the one-month barrel-aged negroni and the five-month barrel-aged negroni - both are fantastic!
All in all, this is a great and authentic Italian restaurant with a very cool vibe! We will be back...
I was extremely impressed with Sophia's. I felt like I was in New York. The interior is nice and the food was excellent.
In Austin there is a different gimmick every week in the restaurant competition. Sophia's is a nice breath of fresh air. I also liked the dj vibe.
First, let me start by saying the service and staff at Sophia’s is always a great experience. They work very hard to ensure you’re taken care of.
While we have enjoyed Sophia’s for many an occasion and have introduced in and out of town friends to the restaurant, this meal experience left us really disappointed, especially considering it was my husband’s birthday.
We’ve cut back on eating out fancy and I cancelled another “new” restaurant reservation as Sophia’s has always been tried and true.
We found our salad, the Porterhouse steak (very expensive and recommended as they were not serving our favorite ribeye) and the butter cake dessert to be less than stellar.
The salad was salty and odd, the porterhouse was mostly fat and the butter cake came out cooler than room temp and was either over baked or from a previous day.
For the price, we may give another Italian place a try for our next special occasion.
Some coworker's and I had an amazing Christmas Eve dinner here. The food was on point and the service was pristine. The orecchiette and butter cake for dessert were SO delicious and unforgettable.
The hostess was so sweet, Brandon was an awesome server, and Kyle's wine pairings went perfectly with our meal. I can't wait to go back for another dinner soon!
My daughter and I loved the look of this restaurant, especially the blue velvet chairs. The staff were all very friendly. The bruschetta and asparagus were excellent. The filet was very good for the price. Our server kept the wine flowing and overall we had a lovely Christmas eve dinner / birthday celebration at Sophia's.
This was my second time to visit Sophia's. I love the ambiance and color scheme of the restaurant. It feels like a quiet get-away especially since it is just a block or two from the busier, noisy bars along west 6th. The service is impeccable and they have a small, but outstanding wine list.
This was a visit over the holidays so on either side of us were large tables with folks having a really good time! So noise levels were probably much higher than usual. Also they brought in a DJ who set us right behind us and it was really weird.
Our server was really nice and knew that our seating was bothering us (imagine drinkers who are loud walking around their tables to socialize unaware that they are standing too near you table. The restaurant should not have taken the 2 tables that were the only dinners not with the 2 large groups.
The first 2 courses were nice and the wine was enjoyable but the dessert was the worst excuse for dessert I have ever had. It was supposed to be an apple tart but it was far from that.
Dessert chef thought they had a good idea for this but it went really wrong...actually not edible :-( Some sort of like gummy bears in it and absolutely no crust or pastry and I don't even remember it having any apples. WRONG
This used to be a nice little restaurant when owned by Sandra Bullock.
We wont be back
Arrived waited over 5 minutes to be greeted since noone was at the hostess stand. Though a couple of waiters saw us standing there. The pork chop was ordered medium we were advised it would be about 45 minutes. We were not in a hurry. We were given updates as to how long we still had we were fine. The pork chop arrived. Mash potatoes were cold and the pork chop was extremely rare. We did not send it back. The first slice that my date cut for me was pure fat and nerves. Very disappointed. The service by Johnny was great. Won’t go back.
I went to Sophia's with my parents when they were in town! We shared the tuna tartare and meatball appetizers. The meatball was slightly cold, we sent it back and they brought out a sizzling hot new one. The Sophia's pasta was incredible and the snapper fish was good. The fish was relatively small for the price. Overall, a solid Austin restaurant.
The food at Sophia's never disappoints. It can get a bit loud, though. This is not a good place for lots of friends to catch-up over a meal. It would be difficult to hear one another if you were sitting diagonally at at table for that seated more than four.
The ambiance is wonderful. Quiet circular booths set into a 'speakeasy' type structure. I was disappointed in the food. I tried the Beet Risotto (knowing that it was risky that I wouldn't like it.) The surprise was that the beet flavor was fine but the risotto was overcooked and soggy. The fettuchini my guest order was just ok. So we had dessert.......the chocolate ganache cake was a 15 on a scale of only 1-10. It made up for the entrees. The service was impeccable and I'm going to put the so-so entrees down to it being Sunday night, a slow time, and possibly the main chef wasn't there. We'll definitely go again!
We were greeted at our table by 3 different servers who told us "we all kinda work together;" and we did get served by 4 different people. While we were never ignored, we had to re-communicate several things during the course of the evening. The servers would frequently pause at our table to ask how we were enjoying the current course, but they would be gone before we could respond. We had to catch someone if we needed anything. (It didn't seem that busy, but maybe it was because our table was in a crowded area where the server didn't have much room to stand). Once during the evening, a drink was dropped off at our table by server who was also holding a bunch of dirty dishes. I'm hoping that we just experienced Sophia's on an off night. The service didn't seem to hold up to the menu or the prices.
The entrees (sea scallops and petit filet) and appetizer (beef carpaccio) were delicious and unique. The salad (avocado) was good, but the dessert (a tiramisu sundae) was a total miss.
This was our second visit to Sophia's, and it was a very different experience from the first time when we enjoyed a relaxed evening and were served by one very professional waiter.
We got the roasted whole fish (it was branzino on that particular Saturday) and the daily risotto with duck confit, and they were both delicious! The branzino came with a great salad on top and crispy skin and was mostly deboned, although there were still a few bones in there. The risotto was great too, but very rich and heavy. The ambiance was classy and romantic, yet contemporary. The DJ played remixes of classics and modern hits, but the music wasn't loud or overwhelming. Overall, I would say the food was great (especially for the price) and the atmosphere was romantic.
This place is very nice but the service horrible the food preeentation not good ,the taste mediocre I think is very bad service out salmon was very bad taste and always raw when it was supposed to be a grilled fish instead of bringing a new one they bring back the same fish very bad taste like frozen.
Maybe I'm so used to different type of places but this one was terrible
