    Sophia's is sophisticated and unique. The atmosphere is edgier than any other Italian restaurant, and the food is authentic with a little bit of a flair. I highly recommend the Carbonara with the amazing eggyolk on it!

    Food was fantastic. Great location for a date. Timing of courses was off which caused everything to come out at the same time. I will definitely go back as the dishes were delicious.

    The space has a very chic, relaxed vibe. It is a walk-down, below street level. Creative and well made specialty cocktails provided a great start to the evening. Service was excellent, save for a delay in the delivery of the main courses. Food was creative and tasteful. Moreover, the wine list was carefully selected with some superb choices available, including some hard to find Sicilian wine that paired perfectly with our meal. Overall, an outstanding dining experience.

    We came here for date night and we’re excited to finally try this place! The cucumber mint cocktails were AMAZING - just so refreshing, as well as the Tuscany Chianti which we highly recommend. We then ordered the bread ($7) which included 3 rolls of bread and 2 butters. Honestly, it just seemed like regular grocery store bread and wasn’t even warm. I think we would’ve been a little more satisfied if the bread was warm as it should be (the butter didn’t melt on the bread). Also seemed weird to be paying that much when it’s given for free at other places. We then ordered the pasta alla Sophia (amazing flavor) and orecchiette tartufate (great truffle flavor), however the pasta was HARD... not el dente, more like a little undercooked. Again, the flavor was on point but if the pasta was cooked well it would’ve made the dishes a 4/5! The ambience is nice here - dimly lit, dungeon feel but in a cool way, and romantic with little candle lights everywhere! However, we were there for about 1 1/2 hours and the waiter only came to check up on us at the very end of the meal. I’ve heard that the service is not yet up to par and this is very true. We wanted to order more drinks but she never showed up until we were ready for the bill. Overall, it was an okay place for a date. We would definitely come back for drinks at the bar since it’s a great location and great vibe, but probably not for dinner anytime soon.

    Food was great. I have never in my life been rushed so much to order and leave so they could turn tables . We were told to order appetizers, entree , and wine as soon as we sat down. We asked to order appetizer first with our wine and were told by the waiter that was not ok. We asked for the manager and he begrudgingly agreed to bring us our appetizer before we ordered our meals. My advice is to go to eat at the bar and take your time if eating at Sophia’s.

    We’ve dined at Sophia’s several times as it is my wife’s favorite Italian restaurant in Austin. This experience was very different as the pasta dishes we have always ordered each visit tasted quite different this time and not in a good way. There just didn’t seem to be enough flavor in each dish and we left very disappointed. I asked our waiter if the chef had changed and he confirmed that he did and he said he would share our experience with them. Very disappointing.

    This is probably the oddest (and worst) restaurant experience we've ever had. After a couple of drinks at the bar, the hostess seated us at our table. The music was loud, we couldn't hear each other, so we asked for the music to be turned down or else be re-seated elsewhere. We were told by the hostess that the volume couldn't be adjusted (odd). Not only were we not re-seated, but the music appeared to actually increase in volume. And this went on for a good 30 seconds before we decided to leave. No one tried to stop us or ask us what the problem was. I can't imagine we'd get service this poor at a high-end restaurant.

    I was in town visiting Austin with a girlfriend of mine and we chose Sophia's for our Saturday night dinner based on the yelp reviews and picture. It did not disappoint! Dinner was delicious, we had the meatball appetizer and it was a knock-out. I also indulged in the Pasta Alla Sophia and it was incredibly tasty and the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. The ambiance is beautiful, we loved the velvet seating and dark wood decor. I would definitely recommend and hope to return in the future!

    Outstanding service and excellent food. The waiter was extremely knowledgeable of the menu and was able to help each guest choose their food and drinks. Fantastic ambiance and will definitely be back.

    We expected a nice Italian dinner. Maybe this is Austin, and we should have expected the unexpected. And actually, until we poured the au jus on, the Amish Chicken (right, in an Italian restaurant) was crisp and tasty. But the bolognese sauce was not so authentic tasting. And the music - when did loud, techno music become appropriate for an Italian restaurant, even an Austin version? But our waitress was nice, so kudos for that. I’d say a big no to Sophia’s.     Food quality has declined. Management absent as usual. I’ve had the grilled octopus several times before, and the biggest issue this time was the portion size was half of normal but the price did not change. The beef filet is back on the menu. The prep was quite nice, temperature was on point but the taste and overall quality of beef was sub par which is disappointing for a $44 steak. Bar tried to charge me $7 for a big ice cube in my barrel aged negroni. List price was $13 but bill price was $20. Feedback was the big ice cube included an extra 1oz pour. I asked the bartender for a big ice cube right before she poured the drink, so clearly that was bs. I got it removed from the bill, but despite asking to speak to a manager the manager had no interest in coming to speak to me. Just like last time I had a service issue at Sophia’s. Fail.

    Somewhat weird experience for us as we are frequent customers at Sophia’s. It was emptier than usual but they were blasting music so loud that we had to ask them to turn it down. They recently got a new chef and one of the meals we got came out way undercooked for medium well, which is what we ordered.

    Overall a very good experience. We thought it very odd that the server was instructed to give us instructions on how to order, per the chef. In other words, he wanted everything ordered at once. I do feel this place was a little pricey for the food offered.

    Went there with a bunch of couples! These couples were from Austin and never been there and I am from San Antonio! We had an excellent food great conversation the place was a lively and seductive! Try the lobster and shrimp Fisili Pasta! Great cocktails! Had Fun

    This restaurant is all about the ambiance. Beautiful interior. My food was not good but my date's was. Service at the bar was not great but our waiter was pretty good. It should be more upscale because it has such a romantic atmosphere.

    Great ambiance, beautiful, intimate space downstairs with a lovely bar. Service was excellent. Menu changed with a new executive chef from small plate driven to more traditional. Was disappointed that the octopus was no longer available, but the entrees were very good. Will return!

    Sophia’s has a supperclub look and feel. We had a pasta dish and the salmon—both were delicious! The old fashioned was a top notch cocktail. I loved the decor and the music. While we were visiting Austin for the first time, this was one of the places we’d definitely go back to. Well done!!
