The decor is absolutely gorgeous, the staff was wonderful, and the food was incredible. For starters, we had the beet (not beef) tartare and the artichoke soup. We split the kale and brussel sprouts salad with salmon and the fried chicken sandwich.
Jasper(GM) and our waitress Laboni were fantastic.
They overheard my friend and I discussing the fact that I had been recently engaged and surprised us with complimentary glasses of champagne.
When the weather is nice, as it was in our case, they slide the doors open so that diners inside can experience the outdoors without actually dining on the patio. I highly recommend dining on the patio as it's really cute and shaded.
Chic but comfortable indoor and outdoor dining in the elegant Gold Coast. Inventive and extensive wine list along with fresh seasonal cuisine. Particularly good outdoor dining option as well as indoor (but open to the outdoors). Would definitely go again
Incredible food and service. Beautiful space.
My husband and I met a friend for a drink on the rooftop of the Viceroy to start and then downstairs for dinner at Somerset. We were celebrating our anniversary and what a special evening!
We were greeted with a "Happy Anniversary" when we checked in and seated with a glass of champagne each to start our dining experience. Nice touch...but odd...as we were charged for the bubbles on our check - as I would have thought complimentary???
Great wine selection and opted for glasses of Monte Secondo from Tuscany. We started with the smoked beet tartare and grilled octopus. Both were excellent. We then moved to the tagliatelle with mushroom ragu and they also brought us out exceptional warm rolls with butter. Entrees included the lamb and scallops. All dishes were exceptional and very well balanced.
Dessert was their sundae with excellent coconut gelato and the butterscotch pudding. I also had a bittersweet mocha.
Definitely recommend and will be back!
One of the best experiences ever. Waiter was great and that chicken sandwich was insane!!!!
Definitely coming back.
We went to Somerset for a Saturday brunch. The service was outstanding and the food and drinks were great. Would definitely recommend and go back!
Was there on Friday June 18th for the first time drinks and dinner. Had a wonderful experience from the start to the finish. Will recommend and will be back.
Food and experience great. Bar was creative, front staff was initially rude, told us over an hour wait and then we booked a table for 5 minutes later on opentable. Returned and were seated within 5 minutes.
Food was delicious and service was wonderful. Upstairs much quieter!
Food is AMAZING!
I have eaten here once before in a large group setting. The service and food are very good. We all liked the midcentury design and friendly atmosphere. The 18th floor sky deck was fun to see at the end of night. The music was too loud for conversation closer to the bar, but out on the deck was nice and had the weather been dry, it was the place to be.
Great big lunch salads. A little on the salty side. Had the kale salad with salmon. I asked for light dressing and it was swimming in dressing. Next time I’ll just get it on the side. I will go back! Beautiful atmosphere.
Ambience had a retro vibe with a modern twist, topped off with excellent food and great service. Great place for a date, special occasion, and great food!
The Beet appetizer was great. A nice smokey smell and great texture. Our drinks were very well done and our main courses also at BOKA standards. However, it was difficult to get over the age of our server and runner, each seemed barely 20. They did there best but that was hard to get over. I hope that this was because we went on a Tuesday, but it just didn't feel like there was the attention given that i would have expected from a BOKA restaurant.
Aside from seating us 20 min late and a slightly rude hostess, the food was phenomenal and the waitstaff was wonderful. They brought us beet tartare on the house that was so incredible. So much better than the beef tartare. I couldn't stop eating it. Highly recommend. Kale salad and the ricotta dumplings were amazing as well.
All the items we ordered were beautifully executed with complex well-balanced flavours. Our server was very friendly and attentive and we left looking forward to the next time we would have lunch here!
Everyone was genuinely friendly - no attitude and very professional.
Great food , presentation, friendly just a very nice eating experience.
Felt like a VIP. We were guests at the Viceroy for the weekend and visited the Somerset for cocktails on Friday night, after dinner drinks and dessert on Saturday night and Mother's Day brunch in a Sunday. Service was outstanding, food was excellent, and bartender was knowledgable, friendly and creative. We cannot wait to return.
We have followed Chef Lee Wolen since his days at The Lobby of The Peninsula Chicago.
Then, at BOKA in Lincoln Park.
Then, now at Gold Coast Somerset 👍👍
We had the best server and it was Mother’s Day so it was extra special to take my Mama there! Delicious food and the ambiance was so chill! Highly recommend !
This is my favorite restaurant in Chicago! They do not disappoint at Somerset! Great service, wine list and the food is fantastic! Beet crostini app, scallops, kale salad and butterscotch pudding dessert are totally on point. And the pudding...so amazing. Good luck having just a taste....#polisheditoff
I wish they would dim the lights just a bit more so it is a little more quiet/intimate feeling, but otherwise I have nothing but compliments.
Very good food, great service and delicious cocktails!
Graduation weekend with the family
Brunch was outstanding. Service was personable, attentive and efficient. The quality of their breakfast entree is far superior to most places. However, the baked goods are the bomb and really puts Somerset over the top. Whatever you do, don't skip the pastries.
Wonderful brunch at Somerset!
Service and atmosphere were spot on. Loved sitting in the window overlooking the courtyard. Can’t wait to sit out there when it gets warm.
The fried chicken sandwich was crispy with a hit of both sweet and spicy. The brioche was buttery and delicious but a little large for my taste. Loved the gooey butter coffee cake, moist and gooey as promised with the familiar crumb topping. My friend had the eggs Benedict w salmon which he said was tasty but the plating was kinda messy with a ton of sauce drenched everywhere.
We were staying at this hotel on Mother’s Day weekend and had brunch here. Outstanding food, with great gluten free options and dairy alternatives, and the level of service more than exceeded expectations. We couldn’t be happier with our experience here! Would love to come back anytime and will highly recommend it.
We plan to eat here every time we are in Chicago! The four of us had a marvelous meal that was beautifully presented.
Great spot in the Gold Coast. Food was excellent and service was great.
Yes, the beet Tartar is as good as everyone says. Allie provided exceptional service.
The service was terrible, but the food was good. Took so long to get our check and the waiter never checked back with us. The busboys were non-helpful as well. Tried to get their attention but they avoided eye contact at all costs.
This is so far the worst experience I had at Somerset. We waited an hour 20 min for the main course to come. The server said she was trying to space out he courses. I’m not sure how much does she wanted to space out. We were starving to death. And she handled the situation poorly. And came back check on us except her voice is ridiculously loud. The manager didn’t handle it well also. Such a weak team.
Always interesting menu choices and exceptional service.b
I had told the restaurant I was taking 3 friends to brunch for their 70th birthdays. The staff could not have been nicer—wishing them Happy Birthday, having special birthday menus and bringing dessert with a candle in it. The brunch drinks were delicious and the food was excellent. We had the baked (Moroccan-style) eggs; eggs Benedict and corned beef hash and all were very flavorful and well-presented. The monkey bread was a treat beforehand and the desserts very fresh and yummy. Service was casual but professional and we couldn’t have had better. The room itself was light and pretty and, while there was a good buzz, we could easily talk and listen to one another. I would definitely recommend Somerset and will go back for dinner.
Brunch on a lovely spring day with great friends, excellent food, and pleasant service. Would definitely book at Somerset again.
Wonderful setting, food ,service. Exciting new decor in an historical setting. The chicken was amazing!!!! Can’t wait to eat outside when it’s warmer. Beautiful outside seating.
Very thing about Somerset was great. The staff, food and drinks were great. Sat outside on a beautiful Chicago evening.
What a great restaurant! We particularly loved the beet tartar and the chicken for two. The space is great too!
