Italian
SoleLuna Café was born from a passion for the Italian restaurant experience. Day and night, we invite you to taste the authenticity.

We grew up in Italy and stayed there into our adulthood. However, a few years ago, we decided to join the rest of our family here in San Diego. Our strong passion for food and our Italian roots led us to the opportunity to take over ownership of SoleLuna. As the new owners of our restaurant, we've made sure to incorporate our native country into our menu by developing and crafting authentic recipes that are true to our homeland. The region of Italy we are from, Emilia Romagna, is known for Balsamic Vinegar, Parmesan Cheese, prosciutto, and other cold cuts, so we try to celebrate these regional delicacies in each dish we serve. We’re big on authenticity, but we’re also big on using fresh ingredients and making everything we can from scratch (the things we don’t, we import from Italy). At SoleLuna, we really truly believe that happiness is homemade.

Great service! Wonderful patio.
The food was not as good as
It used to be. The sauce on the pizza and the pasta tasted like it was from a jar. However, the tiramisu was delicious! Good happy hour prices. Will be there again for happy hour and caprese salad, but not pizza. Thank you for nice patio setting and wonderful service.

Excellent food, love Northern Italian cooking! The burrata & prosciutto app & gnocchi were the show stoppers of this meal.

When it comes to quality of food its hard to beat this Italian spot....but the real winner is the quite neighboorhood corner that is El Cortez..perfect for bringing people from out of town and even better for quite yet refined dinning! Fantastic place and recommend for any occasion..has private littel cozy back spot or enjoy shaded outside patio..great happy hour and awesome no wait for bfast when downtown!

Food for restaurant week was not very good. Careless pasta, probably frozen and not cooked enough. Creme brûlée had no attempt at brulee.

The dinner was yummy if not exactly inventive. Was excited about the polenta but it reminded me of the log you get at Trader Joe's.

The food was fantastic. The service was below average.. The problem was our reservation for 7 was at 7:00 PM, when we completed our meal at 8:20 we asked for the desert menu and was told the kitchen was closed.

Our server ( young female ) was rude and unprofessional. We complained about not being able to order desert to another server. He talked to the manager and then he took our desert order…. The chocolate cake was good, but the tiramisu was frozen.

The service and management are terrible. Even though the food was excellent we will NEVER return.

My recommendation to all….stay away.

AMAZING!!! Best place for authentic Italian cuisine. The best pasta I've had and best service. This place is close to my family's heart as it was one of the few places we got to dine out with my grandpa (who was Italian and he loved it here haha)! Thank you!!!

I would describe the atmosphere of this restaurant as modern rustic. The pop music from the '50s and '60s made me feel like I was in a diner rather than an Italian restaurant. The menu is very limited. My husband and I both chose items from the short list of specialty items. He liked his seafood ravioli, and I enjoyed the cheese/spinach stuffed pasta with the cream sauce, bacon, and balsamic drizzle. The employees who took care of us were friendly and genuine.

The dinner was okay. The menu they gave us clearly said Passport Card on it, but the waiter said they don’t acceptable it. They were paper menus that should have been reprinted in that case.
This restaurant is one of the only Italian restaurants that doesn’t have Cesar salad on the menu.
The rest of the food was fine, but nothing special. With so many other great restaurants around, I doubt I will go back.

First time my family and I have dined at this restaurant.
The food was decent. My lasagna was fantastic, but my daughters pizza could have been cooked a little longer
( was good but a little doughy ) my wife’s dish was so so .
The one draw back was our server was very inexperienced and needed more training as a waiter . He was was nice guy but young and needed more personality and social graces . We felt a little rushed and the place was not close to being full of customers. All and all ok place . Needs more authenticity as an Italian establishment.
I feel like they were just going through the motions.

Definitely a first date spot, it was simply PERFEECTO:) w/one minor flaw, the waiter, his energy was so wrong for hospitality. He was slightly short tempered, brothersome and not very inviting. But besides that, the cafe is a thumbs up:)

What a nice find. We came in for Labor Day weekend and found this gem. Great outdoor dining area and the food was excellent. I had the chicken with artichokes which was very flavorful and accented by tasty greens. Service and drinks great as well. Thanks for a great meal!

Only 3 tables occupied upon our arrival, did not feel welcomed from the beginning. Our waiter, Massimo, seemed to be in a hurry and did not provide us any personalized attention. I wanted this to be a special evening for a very special little girls birthday...I left so upset that we didn't even eat most of the meal. It started when we ordered a Margarita pizza with pepperoni, he retorted "thats a pepperoni pizza", I said I wanted the Margarita pizza with pepperoni, not a pepperoni pizza. he again said"thats a pepperoni pizza", I let it go and decided to wait and see what came to the table. We ordered 2 appetizers and drinks while we waited for our food. He brought the food out and set down a pepperoni pizza. I told him I asked for Margarita pizza with pepperoni, he said that's it. I asked where are the slices of mozzerella, tomatoes and basil?
He said that's it abruptly, he left and came back with a side of basil and droped it on the table in front of me said here. I was speechless. The chicken alfredo was very dry, my lasagna was soupy and not I piece of garnish appeared on ANY thing!!! This is suppose to be an upscale italian restaurant , this was do better than a take out shop. I did not receive my salad that I ordered and just asked him for a refund. If I had been brave enough I would have left the tip off, but I'm not that kind of person. I can promise you I will never patronize your establishment again and I do have many family members in the San Diego area who have been voted best restauranteurs many years over that I will be sharing my experience with who I'm sure will word of mouth this feedback and I intend to notify the hotel that gave us suggestions and Open Table
