    Great tapas and atmosphere. We sat on the patio, and we felt like we were in Spain. The one problem is that they added a gratuity to our bill for our party of six without informing us. The itemized bill only listed the food, but the individual bills for the split check included the gratuity without any mention. We very nearly tipped twice. Borderline shady? Better training would be one thing, but clearly indicating the gratuity on the bills would be better. We will definitely be back for more great food, but keep an eye on the check.

    Was hoping for better than the reviews I read….unfortunately… it wasn’t. The calamari was over cooked and rubbery. The garlic shrimp were ok. Not the large prawns I was hoping for. The mushroom croquettes weren’t anything special. The chicken croquettes were the only thing we enjoyed. The ambiance outside is nice on a cooler eve ring. Server was very sweet. Don’t think I’ll be going back anytime soon, unfortunately. We didn’t even risk trying the entrees. Pricey for what you’re getting. The sangrias were just ok.

    Best tapas we have ever had! Our waiter, Daniel did a fantastic job of bringing out our orders in a few, perfectly timed waves. Sol y Sambra is situated in a historic building amid beautiful surroundings. A hidden gem that we are so happy we discovered!

    First time here. Exceeded my expectations. Great service. Wonderful tapas choices. Eclectic, fun decor. A bit noisier than I prefer but not a deal breaker. It’s tucked away from the busy highway so the resort ambience is very peaceful. Will return for the paella!

    We love showing off this restaurant to visitors and it's become a special outing with our friends. Try anything on the menu because it's that good, but be sure to include the divine mushroom croquettes. The ambiance inside is intimate and artsy, and the patio outside is warm and comfortable. And, the service is as good as the food. If you like tapas, I can't imagine a single disappointment here.

    Sol y Sombra is an outstanding , quality experience in PS! The food is inventive, appetizing and fun and the flavors are out of this world. Fantastic menus which is just about right in terms of plate choices. Everything we had in 2 visits was first class. The staff are terrific but there is only one flaw in communication between them: service can be a little slow and absent minded. BUT... GO GO GO to Sol y Sombra!

    Sol Y Sombra is a hidden gem, well worth the effort to find. The restaurant is in the grounds of an amazing boutique hotel, The Paloma Resort, in an old and charming adobe building. The interior is beautiful and welcoming. Our server, Emily, was fantastic. She was attentive and professional without being intrusive on our date night. Now, let’s talk about outstanding Spanish food. I should preface my comments with the personal aside that I spent several years of my childhood in Spain, so was brought up on good Spanish food. We started with two tapas dishes, Papas Bravas Españolas and Elote estilo Español. Both were exceptional in every way and the perfect size to share. For our entrees I ordered the Branzino Chamuscado and my boyfriend ordered the Estofado de Cerdo. We both loved our entrees and enjoyed sharing them. Finally, we had the Spanish Cheesecake for desert. It was perfect, not too sweet, just delicious! The whole evening was a total delight and one we will experience again soon!

    Food was not great and over-priced. The paella was the worst tasting dish which was a big disappointment. The rice was undercooked and the dish tasted as if there were no saffron in it and tried to conceal it with a lot of salt and the vegetables tasted like it came from the back of a freezer. Some of the tapas that we order were ok. Muscles with fisherman's sauce was the best dish. The rest were ok. Service was lacking, we had to wait for drinks to be refilled numerous times and because we ordered a handful of tapas, we had plenty of dirty dishes that needed to be cleaned up and taken away but the staff were not attentive and our table was littered with dirty dishes stacking up. If you're debating on coming here for dinner, I would recommend you go elsewhere.

    Restaurant is beautiful, great setting. Our 3rd visit here but service was very unsatisfactory. Server neglected to place the order for one of our party of 4. He did comp the entree that arrived 10 mins. late. Staff seemed awkward in serving, very unprofessional for a restaurant that should represent fine dining. We love Spanish food and wanted this restaurant to succeed, but we will not return.

    The good.....Food was very good! There were four of us and we shared five or six tapas and also ordered a large paella tierra y mar to share. Everything was tasty, in particular, shout outs to the jamon croquettes, chorizo dates and the serrano ham tartare. Service was good, our waiter was Daniel and he was friendly and stayed on top of everything all night. The bad....It was HOT in there. They need to figure something out with the air or add some fans. There were two splits on the wall but neither seemed to be doing much and we were pretty much underneath one. They seemed to be on low or the temperature was set too high. As we got close to the end of the meal, we talked about desert and after dinner drinks but we all agreed it was too hot inside to stay any longer so we didn't even look at the menu. As much as we would like to go back sooner than later, I feel like we can't go back now until after summer which is a shame. One last thing, and it's not bad just a preference I guess...they need different ice buckets, particularly because it's so warm in there. We took a bottle of Dom (corkage was $25) but it got warm quickly as their ice buckets only chill from the bottom because there is no room to ice a bottle down. Dining room is cute and eclectic, just needs to be cooler.

    How to describe the evening… ? The staff were remarkable wonderful and friendly, Zeus in particular. Never did we want for anything that he wasn’t there. He’s a keeper. The food was good, not great but good and here’s why. We ordered the fish, the chicken and the pork as well as mussels for the table. Presentation: very nice. Quality: overall just ok. Value: seriously overpriced. Downfall: the pork was so salty we couldn’t eat it, the potatoes nor the gravy. The fish went the other route, completely without flavor. The chicken was good, tender but still dry. The winner were the mussels and sauce, amazing! I ordered a Jack and Coke. This particular night they had neither Jack nor Coke??? Really, no one ran to the store to buy coke for your guests??? That’s an amateur mistake that should never have occurred. The dining room was so incredibly loud that it was near impossible to have a conversation. The three at our table, all former restauranteurs, kept scanning the room looking for an opportunity to move to avoid the noise. Much to our dismay, both dining rooms had the same extreme noise level. This is a nice addition and a welcome breath of fresh air to a rather dull Palm Springs area dining market. With a little time and a little kitchen and dining room management, this can be quite a destination, we want to be honest in our reviews to help you grow and we want you to succeed! You’ve heard from us and others, now it’s up to you.

Regarding the unavailability of a Jack and Coke: I apologize for the lack of clear communication surrounding the lack of Coke.     Food was average at best. Service exceptionally slow. Very noisy especially from one very rude table. Many diners were upset. Management should have asked them to hold it down. We will not be returning. This was our 2nd visit. The first visit was right after they opened so we cut them a little slack. But no more.

    We had a 6:30pm reservation. The host was very kind and welcoming. We sat immediately and in front of the entrance in clear view of all the staff but waited over 15 minutes before the host came back because she saw we hadn’t been greeted or given water. The restaurant was not busy whatsoever. A server did end up coming by and loosely apologized but it was obvious there is a lack of communication for FOH. The original server did come by but seemed detached. What was more annoying is that 2 tables were sat shortly after us and yet those 2 servers greeted them promptly and gave them their names along with a little spiel. Our server did have the kitchen fire our food right away since we had been waiting but we still had to ask for water and our check. I will not accuse anyone of being racist but it was somewhat hurtful that the 2 tables who happened to be white got this entirely different experience than we received. The host seemed to care more than anyone and should be promoted to a server. We decided to try some tapas. The asparagus was good and vegan empanadas were tasty. Corn was a generous portion and well flavored. The vegan brussel sprouts were disappointing and tasted fishy? I had high expectations and love supporting small and local businesses but the service was just point blank bad.

    We LOVED this restaurant! Had never been before, so didn't know what to expect. The ambiance is old world in keeping with it's Spanish menu, very tasteful. We found out later the building was the original Pony Express office for the area back in the 1800s, original Adobe, lovingly restored. Food was excellent - only place I've found in the desert that serves Paella and it was delicious! The tapas were great, too! It is located in the newly opened Paloma Hotel, a boutique hotel that serves up the quintessential Palm Springs experience - mid-century modern, beautifully appointed. Would absolutely recommend both to anyone looking for a unique experience.

    Terrific! Sol y Sombra seems to get better each time. Host and manager, Jordan, is gracious and accommodating. The menu is varied and has something for every taste.     The cucumber salad and tapas were good. The paella was dry and had too much lemon (?), so was a disappointing. The service was cheerful but very slow. Nice atmosphere.

    Food was great, but we made a roomie mistake and made 9pm reservations. Last call came shortly after I had my first glass of wine and the kitchen was out of one of the dishes we had ordered.
