We enjoyed having dinner at Sol Cocina. Our server was Barbara she is the BEST. Really nice and always checking on our table. She knows her stuff. She gave us some recommendations to eat and drink.
I will go back again and request Barbara to b our server.
Sol is one of my favorite as it has good food, service is always good and of course you cant beat the waterfront location. And this is so close to home too! Take advantage of Happy Hour drinks and appetizers.
Lunch could not have been better. Canal views, flavorful food, great service
We have been to Sol so many times, especially during the past 2 years, and last night was such a disappointment! We sat outside on the patio and our server came by every 30+ minutes. We never had water refilled and the new paying system is annoying. Wont be back!
The food is always fantastic! Tacos and Burrito's are not your average restaurant quality, way above!
Margarita's are fresh and many choices.
Overall, it is a great place to meet friends or have a special dinner.
Always great to be at Sol. Good to see Christian and JC today.
Excellent dining experience - exceeded all our expectations for food quality, service, view, etc., etc... Will definitely go back next time in the area.
Tried this place today for the first time with my family. Overall the food was good. Our biggest complaint was the service (more like lack of) we got our food before we got our drinks. We overheard 2 other tables complaining that they had no idea who their waiter was. Our waiter was very nice but was struggling to keep track of his tables. We sat outside and he had tables inside so he was clearly juggling. In my opinion there should have been 1 waiter for the outside tables only. It’s too much for them to be juggling tables inside and out. Common sense, someone is going to be forgotten about (like us) in the end we were comp’d our drinks and our food was good. We did receive an apology as well, which was appreciated. But we would’ve loved to have had a great experience for our first time. So if you go here, don’t be surprised if you have to wait for your order to be taken or your drinks to be delivered to your table.
Terrible experience. Waited for over a hour for our drinks and 1.5 hours for the food. Food came out ice cold for everyone. The service was just terrible and the food was not good. Won’t go back
Friend get together
Carne asada tacos yummy!!
We have been to this restaurant before and enjoyed it. This is no different. The food was good reasonably priced good service. Nice ambience on the water.
Some of the worst service I have ever experienced. Aside from the patio umbrella falling over and nearly hitting our three month old baby in the stroller, the waitress was absent most of the time and when she did finally show up, she was rude. You would think after the near calamity of a umbrella collapsing less than 2 feet from a sleeping baby in a stroller, a manager would come out to apologize or someone from the staff would check to see if everything was ok, but not a ounce of concern from anyone. The food was subpar, especially for the price. Sadly disappointing.
Appetizers were great!! The coconut calamari was tasty as was the ceviche. For dinner, the short rib was prefect for sharing if you wanted to eat light.
Food was not up to par, food was lacking seasoning although portions were big. Will not come back
It was a nice restaurant but was short on rice, server didnt let us know. Had mostly black beans as a meal. Didn’t finish it all. Noise level could be better there was an older women who had few too many drinks who was shouting in the restaurant.
We had a reservation for 6:45pm and we seated at 7:15. It took forever for the server to take our drink orders so we ordered drinks, 2 apps & dinner at the same time. It was a while before one of the apps was delivered and the other apps never came. Dinner was delivered before we had even finished the app. The food is actually outstanding. We had to ask for the bill as we didn't get the bill for over half an hour after our plates were cleared. The music was blaring! Even though we were sitting outside the bar, it was so loud we had to lean in to hear each other. ..with the door to the bar closed.
I have had the goat cheese enchiladas in the past and they were melt in your mouth delicious. Today the tortillas were tough and cheese was chewy. Seems like maybe the quality had changed.
I hope the quality doesn’t suffer as that could change their future.
I will give them another shot.
I LOVE this place!! I’ve been going to the Newport Beach location for a few years now…it has yet to disappoint! Any occasion is a good occasion to go
We sat outside with a terrific view of the marina. Our waiter was super friendly and attentive. Our meals were tasty. We loved the experience. We’ll be back.
I took my two children for lunch. My daughter is vegan and ordered vegan tacos but they came with two kinds of cheese so she did not eat them. I tried one and they were very good but she just wasn’t able to eat them because of the cheese. So that was disappointing. The food I had was very good and my son lightest as well
Not sure why this restaurant has such high ratings. It is our second time trying to go here and the the hosts are always unfriendly and make us feel unwelcomed. The service is also very poor. The food is ok, we will not be going back here.
ALWAYS GREAT GOOD AND GREAT SERVICE AND THE FOOD OMG DELICIOUS 🤤 ALL THE TIME LOVE THIS PLACE
There is absolutely NOTHING they did wrong on my 1st visit!!!! For the hostess to the Exit: they greet you, treat you like family arriving to the party and feed you ooohhh so well and the drinks are outta this world! Thank you to everyone for making this a memorable experience to brag about! Can't wait for our next visit
Casual fare for pseudo-Mexican food. Service was good, waiters friendly, but food you can tell was just pre-made, heated up, and served quick. You can do a lot better for the same dollars if Mexican is what you're craving. But, its in a prime location and harbor adjacent so I'd recommend it for a happy-hour. But not much else.
It was an ok experience. Started out oddly. Picked up the water glass and the bottom of the glass separated. Water went all over the place.
The food was ok. The bean dip was real yummy.
Our server was stretched so I can’t blame him for the lack of attention but we certainly didn’t feel like we were the only ones in the restaurant.
Great food Mia was amazing waitress
Outstanding food and service. Management knows what they’re doing. Great staff!
Value for money is very poor wi try limited options for vegeterians
Margaritas are very blend and not flavorful
Normally love this place, but the food was subpar and the service was dismal. Typically I don’t write reviews like this, but it was very disappointing.
I am sensitive to being overly critical during the pandemic but I do feel it is important for restaurants to have some insights into today's guest experience during these challenging times. My most recent experience at Sol Cocina was just okay. The service was slow and forgetful at times. The food was lukewarm and the taste was also "just okay". The jalapeño and cucumber margarita was a bit too sweet with just a "dash" of what tasted like tequila. The prices of drinks, entrees and appetizers seemed to have gone up but the flavor had gone down...The outdoor deck seating was nice and I hope this area will remain once things "normalize". I am sure I will return in the future to give the restaurant another chance as it has always been one of my favorite local Mexican food restaurants in the area.
I had requested a note be on our table upon arrival. This request was not executed. This would have made the experience a lot more special and memorable.
Noisy and overpriced
Food was good, not great
There are seats right on the harbor as well as nicely decorated inside dining areas. Unusual Margaritas were very tasty. They have many interesting takes on their Mexican dishes. Our meal was delicious and looked very appetizing and decorative on the plate. Though we are not locals, will make a point of returning. The place was full so suggest you make a reservation as I did.
Prices are comparable to higher-end Mexican restaurants. The good, but not impressive, quality of the food didn’t justify the price.
Not yet sure if we’ll come back.
Sitting by the water with great food-what could be better?
JC was the best! One of the best waiters I have ever come across and the food and drinks were fabulous!
