Other than it was extremely noisy inside, the food was wonderful. I have yet to sit outside but I anticipate it will be quieter than the inside.

Just discovered this place. And we’ve been back again within the week. So good. Fresh local ingredients, and great sharing plates. Fabulous outdoor patio. Made us feel like we were in Barcelona!

Excellent food and value. From starters through entrees and desserts, all is fantastic. Ambience is great for any occasion/age group. Highly recommend Smithy. It will not disappoint.

Beautiful outdoor patio and hip interior decor. After reading several negative reviews I had low expectations of the service. However, the staff was friendly and seemed happy and enthusiastic. The food was really good- lots of great options for our party that included omnivore and vegans. Breads and starters were delicious. The main dishes were good. Strange order of food delivery- starters came out last. But we were happy with the meal and the experience.

I've never had a poor experience or meal at the Smithy. It's my go-to spot for special meals. Always eat outside by the olive trees!

We were looking forward to a stellar evening the service unprofessional and food spicy not worthy to take home. The menu was poorly written the description by the waitstaff not helpful.

There wasn’t a crowd, hardly anyone seated and still our waitress seemed rushed and bothered. It was my birthday and apparently they don’t serve complementary desserts or put candles on a slice of cake. My group was small, polite and understanding. But it was a turn off for sure. I would go back for cocktails but that’s about it.

The drinks were very expensive, and the food was nothing special. I had the grilled shrimp and white beans.
The shrimp were not grilled, the white beans were out of a can and the seasoning was blah..

This restaurant was highly rated by many of my friends, so when we went following our theater performance I was very disappointed. We have since heard the food was wonderful when it first opened but has now declined. There were 3 of us and we weren't terribly hungry so we ordered 3 of the small plates to share, seafood stew, lamb meatballs, and polenta/swisschard. The polenta dish was dry and tasteless, served as balls resembling tater-tots; and the lamb meatballs were also over cooked/dry , with grilled toast also burnt and dry. Both portion sizes were not really big enough to share easily with 3 people. The seafood stew on the other hand was a generous portion but not easy to divide up because it was soupy. My husband did enjoy that dish very much.
These plates were not inexpensive, about $25 each, and the waiter suggested we order 5 to 6 of them when we were seated. Service was slow.
The restaurant is sleek and modern, and the patio is lovely.

The ambience is unbelievable as is three food. We went to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary and I couldn’t imagine a better spot in ambience, service or food. We loved it.

Just tried Smithy last night for the first time and we were so impressed! Excellent service from our lovely server who had great recommendations for us. Very well balanced/seasoned food with creative twists. Seasonal and delicious! We shared the Mary's Chicken, a side of the blistered Brussels and the burrata salad. More than enough for two very hungry people. We also shared a dessert, the chevre cheesecake profiteroles with a caramel sauce- SO GOOD!

We found Smithy last minute when looking for a brunch spot while we were in town for a wedding. The interiors immediately had us excited about the restaurant and the service and food did not disappoint. We were there on a Sunday morning at 10:15 shortly after the restaurant open and were shocked to not see a full house. This is a hidden gem for sure. I will be back!

Beautiful place if you could get onto the patio. Food is fair, prices are typical for Santa Barbara. Service is bad all around. Starts with the bad attitude from the hostess (even with a reservation) and continues with the check if you can find your waitress.

My wife and I had dinner last night at Smithy in Santa Barbara. We were expecting awesomeness and had heard great things, but we left feeling disappointed and light in the wallet. We won't be back. The service was slow, the portions were tiny and the food was seriously spendy for what you get. For example, I ordered the Ancho Crusted Salmon for $34 and although fairly tasty, I would be extremely surprised if that was a 4 oz piece of fish. Oh, and did you want a salad with that??? My wife had one of the flatbread pizzas and it was like something that came out of a Pillsbury Dough can. Truly unremarkable. Sad. Let's not even discuss my $20 glass of Ken Brown pinot noir. As I said, we won't be going back.

I will say that the outdoor courtyard was gorgeous and this would be a great place for a small reception or private party. Smithy looks cool and chic and has the potential to be a great and happening place but the empty main dining room combined with the nervous, dead man walking look of the wait staff tells me this place won't be around long unless they can turn some things around. I wish them luck.

We choose Smithy's because of the outdoor patio. It had such a great ambiance and it was a birthday dinner. It was pretty empty, but yet the host chose to seat us right next to 2 groups instead of something more private. The food was average and pricey for the quantity. The Brussel sprouts were our favorite.

The most romantic back patio in town. Wish they’d simplify the menu and forget “some of these are meant to be shared” and some are just a regular dinner. The ciopinno was actually under one of the “shared” headings!! How do you share ciopinno??? That being said tho, the food was good. The price of alcohol is ridiculous. My Grey Goose was $18.00!!! Really?? The cheapest bottle of wine (any color) is around $52.00 so next time around we’ll buy a bottle and skip the cocktails.

Waiter was argumentative, unapologetic for errors caused, served one person’s salad with the mains for the other 7 people. Argued that that person had asked for the salad first so it was the customer’s fault. That one person waited 15 more minutes to get his main, while the rest of the table waited. Ridiculous attitude, then realized maybe he had gone too far, offered the entire table a “free champagne.” It was too late. Food wasn’t very good, not bad, just nothing special. Tremendously overpriced, even by Santa Barbara standards. Won’t return. There are far too many better choices in the area.

I had a table for 8 and everyone had a great time. Food was properly prepared and was tasty. My only recommendation is about the wine list. Wine is part of food and there is no reason I should not have an extensive list of wines between 25-40 dollars to choose from, just like in Europe. That would be my only major complain. But, I did like the food and I will go back. I may have to take my own wine though!

Food was great but service was not good. An appetizer we ordered never came out we were later told it wasn’t made right so had been taken off the check (would have been nice to know this prior to the check and main dishes- or asked if we prefer something else) ice tea was never offered a refill & it was a birthday dinner. No acknowledgment or anything special done by server. Great food but service ruined overall experience.

Very tasty. We’ve eaten here a few times now and each experience has been better than the last. The plates to share are so very tasty. I’d avoid the heirloom tomato flatbread-bland. Loved the: Korean fried chicken, avocado bruschetta, Brussels sprouts, any salad.
Try to sit on the patio - very cool spot.

We love this place! Great ambiance on the patio with olive trees lit with lanterns. The interior and bar are stunning with beautiful finishes. The service is excellent and the food comes out of the kitchen quickly. It works well for date nights or large parties. The food is excellent and cocktail list is unique and delicious.

I went in with high expectations as I had heard good things about this place. Well, our expectations were met. The food was terrific and the service was great too. My favorite was the Fried Chicken -- really different and excellent. We will be going back soon.

I love the outdoor ambiance. Very pretty and hip outdoor area. Great for girls night out. Decent for couples (although if you have a big eater, that might be a problem). Great for light bites. I've been here before and the food was better the first time. Food was just okay during this particular visit. The peach cobbler dessert was excellent. I would come again because I love the outdoor area.
