Excellent service. Beautiful ambience. The food is pretty good, too. Thanks...we’ll return as usual for the pretty patio.
My husband and I had dinner here before the symphony on a Saturday night. It's a fun, open place with lots of light. We had wanted to sit outdoors but there were no tables available and we found the indoors really noisy. Nonetheless the food was good, on the pricier side. We enjoyed fried chicken, a kale salad, a bufala cheese salad and shrimp. All were good. Staff seemed a bit overwhelmed, although very pleasant. We'd certainly come back.
The food was very tasty and the courtyard where we were seated is very pleasant on a nice evening. Inside, the restaurant got extremely noisy so being outside was a blessing. The wait staff is millennial and as such uses terms such as "I hear you" "super deal" and suggestions for food choices while accurate was done in a more casual way than I would consider professional. The waiter who took our cocktail order cashed us out before we moved to a dinner table took the cash I gave him and never returned with change...it was several dollars more than I had wanted to tip but we left it alone.
So, for anyone over 50...understand this is a younger place with different expectations but as I mentioned the food was good, the wine list good but expensive
My favorite new restaurant in Santa Barbara! I’ve been there four times and has not disappointed! Most interesting combination of flavors and textures. And the space is beautiful, open and airy. The back patio is lovely- heaters so even if it’s a cool evening it’s comfortable. It’s great for special occasions and for an every day meal because the price is reasonable for what you get.
Four of us having lunch and Food was great. Great atmosphere with a beach feel. Patio is lovely. Our server was very nice but neglected to write our order down and was working from memory. He got a few things wrong, but we didn’t want to make a fuss.
My husband and I shared several plates, and everything was excellent, the vegetable dishes especially. The outdoor seating is beautiful. We thought the drinks were on the pricey side, but they were tasty.
We really enjoyed the freshness, seasonality, and creativity of the menu items. We dined in the cozy courtyard which has a very casually sophisticated and romantic ambiance. The service was both friendly & helpful (good wine & food pairing suggestions)!
Four of us went for dinner on a Sunday night, and ate in the garden. The service was outstanding and the meal memorable. Delightful in every respect.
Our first time at Smithy: Delicious food and great service in a gorgeous patio setting.
The service and ambiance was great, but the food was lacking. It is very overpriced for what they call "tapas" and most of our dishes were bland and didn't taste good.
The back patio is a beautiful space. The dishes were interesting and inventive. Our server, Lindsey, was great and really helped explain the menu and the wine list. Don't miss the craft cocktails.
Was so excited to try Smithy's. Was not aware it was tapas until our server told us, I could not believe how little food we got for how expensive it was. The was mediocre at best. I will not be going back...
Celebrated a birthday lunch here outside in the beautiful courtyard. The flatbreads were very good. Have eaten Sunday brunch here too - also very good. The menu has something for everyone. Will definitely be back.
Good food, smaller tapas style plates so you can try multiple things at one meal.
Our waiter was really lousy. The food was disappointing . The only thing we liked was the rigatoni and the dessert. We were stuck on a table in a far corner of the patio and felt very boxed in. You ruined the outdoor space by putting too many tables too close together. The noise level was very loud except for about 30 minutes when there was no one sitting next to us. I am really bummed because I loved that outdoor space when it was Somerset.
The noise level inside is very loud. Its hard to hear someone across the table. The outside patio is probably better for larger groups so you can have a conversation.
It was a busy night, we saw someone get up because there wasn't enough wait staff to service all the inside tables. Once the order was placed, food was out quickly, about 10 min.
Food was better on a previous visit. Almost all the dishes previously were great. This time of the 15 plates, only 3 were great, everything else was average which means a little over priced for the flavor/quality. The rib plate, fried chicken, and carrots with beet hummus were the best.
The back patio is absolutely beautiful! We went for Easter Brunch and the food was incredible.
Loved the Burata salad, Sunchokes, Paperdelle and Lamb Meatballs. All the dishes had layers of flavor, unique combinations of ingredients and were delicious! We’ll be back to try more dishes!
Every dish was delicious! The meat dish portions were adequate. However, they could have been a tad more generous with the veggies. $10 for a tiny bowl of potatoes did seem a bit much. We loved the sunchokes. Their kegs weren't working but the spicey margarita was amazing. The service was great which was a nice change of pace from my last visit where it was unfortunately, really bad. It was our friend’s bday and they didn’t comp his dessert even though he wasn’t able to get a beer and we ordered two desserts. Not that it’s obligatory but would have been a nice gesture. Overall, an outstanding experience, in a beautiful setting, with a few minor issues.
Best farm to table restaurant in Santa Barbara that also has amazing desserts. Go to Smithy Kitchen + Bar soon...you’ll be glad you did!
The wait staff was excellent and the outdoor patio very inviting. The dishes were very tiny and yet the advice was to order and share...not easy to divide when the plate is about 5"
It is a lovely location and fun atmosphere but overpriced and seemed aimed at being cutting edge rather than discerning quality. Hope they adjust either the price points of the dishes/cocktails or sizes of the portions.
When we first ate at Somerset we really enjoyed it. Now that it is Smithy, it didn't really live up to our previous experience. Food was good, love the outdoor space, but the cocktails and table service, and presentation, just so-so. A little more fine tuning please. Thanks!
Went for a birthday celebration, and although everyone was friendly regarding the birthday- the service was pretty poor. The waitress told us we needed to give the entire order and the chef/kitchen would send out meals as they come. We brought two bottles of wine, the $25 corkage fee was reasonable considering the stemware they served. We ordered 2 plates per person which was enough food, the waitress encouraged us to order 3 per person which would have been too much food and way too expensive even considering the recently lowered priced menu. Considering the lovely ambiance and the look and feel of the restaurant you would expect better service. The runner dropped the food and ran with zero explanation of the dish or what the components were. The end of he night was rather awkward, the waitress asked what type of drink would we have ordered had we not brought wine- almost like if she was going to bring us a round of shots since we were celebrating a birthday. We declined and then moments later a different waiter came by to get a dessert order which we gave him. Our original waitress came by with the dessert that had a candle and some other dessert that we did not order so we declined that. Really uncomfortable ending to what was supposed to be a great birthday celebration.
This place is amazing! We have planned a friend's birthday for an evening and the food was great. We ordered seafood, chicken strips, pizza, pasta and everything was delicious. Its a great place for kids too. We had a feeling that we are having dinner in our own backyard. I would go there again
First time. Great meal
We had a fantastic dinner with excellent service from Michael. We were impressed by the numerous salad and vegetable options. The burrata and brussel sprout salad was amazing and the roasted suchokes were a favorite at the table. We sampled several other courses and loved all of them. Dessert did not disappoint.
Wanted to love it, menu looks amazing, gorgeous interior and outdoor patio and the service really good! Maybe just an off night though the food was not that good, and the portions were sml relative to the pricepoints. We learned its supposed to be shared plates, but wasn't obvious on the menu, waiter had explained to us. Even w/that the portion sizes were disappointing. We're not striking this off the list, just hoping they pull it together!
Servers all seemed to be in a terrible mood. Menu wasn’t explained so had no idea that all dishes on menu were appetizer size until I overheard another server telling a different table after we had already placed our order. Food was mediocre so maybe we got lucky that we hadn’t ordered enough!
My husband and I had lunch on the gorgeous patio. This place is so beautiful and our food was fresh and delicious. Can’t wait to go back!!
We absolutely loved Smithy Kitchen+Bar ! It's a powerful combination of excellence - décor, service and most of all cuisine. We never saw it as Somerset, but the reincarnation into Smithy Kitchen+Bar was superbly done. The décor is nice and white, very friendly, casual and relaxed. The maître d' was charming - full of smiles, friendly and accommodating. Our server was very pleasant besides being well informed. But most of all the food...
Chef Lauren has a spectacular pedigree (from A.O.C. and Lucques in L.A.). She has brough all of that creativity and expertise with her and she is now very much at the top of her game. We started with lovely French chenin blanc and a cheese plate which featured freshly grilled bread and crackerbread (both made in house) - very nicely and thoughtfully composed with accompaniments. My wife had one of her perpetual favorites - avocado toast - which I can only comment she said was the best that she has ever had. I had a brisket hash with cipollini onions, roasted potatoes, arugula and perfectly poached eggs - phenomenal. The chef also brought with her the pastry chef from A.O.C. (Christina). The bread was nothing short of spectacular; if I told you it was even better than at A.O.C. - that's really saying something.
And that was just Sunday brunch. We can't wait to go back for dinner and dessert and sit out on the stunningly beautiful patio in the back. Truly an all-around amazing place.
Can’t wait to go back...
It was raining so we had to be inside. Very high noise level! Small plates which were all good. Service a bit slow. Will give it another try.
Superb experience. Cannot wait to go back.
It was very busy on a friday night, recommend reservations.
Food service was a leisurely pace, allowing for a long dinner and lots of conversation.
I have serving experience in
LOVED this restaurant. Fresh, innovative food, excellent cocktails, great service and just a cool vibe all around. On my top 3 list in Santa Barbara! Cheers and will becoming back for more!
Good venue, great server, all items ordered were excellent. I wish that sand dabs were still on the menu.
Outstanding atmosphere and service, but very small plates. Ironic, but not the place to go if you're hungry... Unless you want to purchase 3-4 small plates at full meal price. But then again, if you're dining there, your wallet probably doesn't mind.
Lovely up beat place to dine. Very friendly staff, delicious food, good prices. Wonderful for either lunch or dinner. Korean fried chicken is delicious as is everything else I have tried on the menu.
Excellent restaurant with very good attentive service. We shared four plates between the two of us, with one dessert we had plenty of food. Unusual combinations of ingredients and all very good! Beautiful atmosphere with lighted globes in the old olive trees set in stone planters. Plenty of heaters - very comfortable. Looking forward to coming again.
Great service, especially b6 Grace. Food and drinks great too
