They did a great job accommodating everyone outside after an A/C failure. Everyone was professional and nice. Well done!
Our favorite dinner spot. Staff are always kind and lovely, food is amazing, drinks are delicious, price is fair, atmosphere is lovely inside and outside. Highly recommend for a nice dinner date night.
We were seated at a lovely table outside in a nice setting. At first we were put off a bit because there was a large group of Paleo people coming to dine there were saving some of the items for them off the menu. Not sure I appreciated them being prioritized for dinner. Our waiter was wonderful though and we ended up ordering the brisket which we normally would not have done and it was delicious so it all worked out. We would recommend coming here just make sure there is not a large group coming because they will limit you on what you can order.
Thank you so much for joining us. I'm so sorry about how the way the evening started. We did have a large group with a prearranged menu, but that doesn't excuse how that was handled. I'm so glad you enjoyed the brisket, and I hope you are able to come back soon and enjoy things as they should be. In the meantime, we have put a halt to all our larger parties as we continue to be short staffed and want to make sure tables such as yourselves do not have this sort of experience.
The wait for drinks and food was way too long. I understand that they are short staffed and have people in training, but the long waits for drinks and food spoiled the evening for us. Having said that, our server, Devon, was fantastic and did his best to make the evening right. but he is only one person and cannot do it by himself. The food was excellent.
Thank you so much for joining us. I'm so sorry that the waits put a damper on the evening. You are correct in that we are vastly understaffed. We are doing everything we can to hire and train new employees to make sure things like this don't happen. I'm so glad you enjoyed the food.
Patio area wasn’t very attractive, yellow jackets were attacking during the meal making it hard to relax. Brisket is good. But for the cost it was not a full lovely dining experience. I didn’t stay for dessert or even consider it I had had enough of the yellow jackets.
I'm so sorry that you had an issue with yellow jackets. We will be sure to look into that. I'm glad the brisket was enjoyed, and we will strive to make things better for next time.
The meal at Smithfield’s was satisfactory. The setting was superb on a summer evening. It was unfortunate that I was unable to use a substantial gift certificate that was given to me less than a year ago. I understand the business has changed ownership, but when servers apologized for the change in gift certificate policies they suggested I speak with the original owner about redeeming the value of my gift certificate - this seems very unethical. It is not the fault of the previous owner or the gift certificate recipient that the current business decides not accept a purchase in the form of a gift certificate.
Thank you so much for joining us. I'm so sorry about that miscommunication. We have, and do, accept all previously issued gift certificates. I would very much like to make this right, and will be discussing this with the staff as well. As I said, we have continually accepted all previous gift cards. I will reach out to you to try and make sure things are taken care of. Again, you have my sincerest apologies.
Our waiter was great, the food was great. We have been here several times with no complaints.
Thanks for joining us! So glad you enjoyed your meal.
Great food, great outdoor seating. They were a bit understaffed, so service was a bit slow, but they were working hard!
I ordered the Chef’s Special 12 0z. Rib Eye Steak. The waiter informed me the price had increased to $50 for the night because they were serving a special Prime center cut. The meat was tasteless and tough-definitely not a Prime cut or even a good Choice steak.
I'm so sorry that you didn't enjoy your steak. Having checked with the servers, no one was made aware of your displeasure. We are always happy to get you something more to your liking or remake a dish if you'd prefer, but we do need to be made aware. We'll go over the meat selection with the chef and our proveyor, and I hope that the next time you join us you find things more to your liking.
Smithfields continues to be too noisy to carry on a conversation with shouting...which is what happens and then it continues to get louder. I would only recommend their garden for dining. They ARE meat centric; diners wanting a more varied selection (i.e. fish, chicken, pasta) should go elsewhere. Diners wanting a large, but not gourmet meat selection, will be happy. They do not have 'side' salads, only larger dinner salads.
Thank you for joining us. We are an energetic restaurant. As you mentioned, ff you'd like, we always offer outdoor seating as well, which tends to be quieter. As you stated, the menu is indeed meat centric, which is our slogan. However, we do have several fish dishes, seared scallops, roast chicken, and a vegetarian option available. Hope you are able to enjoy the outdoors and the other varied options the next time you join us.
Went here for a birthday meal. Choose because I was looking for a good ribeye steak and there menu sounded good. When I ordered the ribeye the waitress told me they had a special ribeye that would be much better than their normal ribeye so I ordered it. It was Ok but I am not sure it was a ribeye at all. Frankly I have had better ribeyes at home and this one was not worth the $50.00 they charged. Service was just OK. Did not turn out to be the special night out for my birthday. Guess next year I will just buy a nice ribeye and cook it at home.
Thank you for coming in, and a happy belated birthday. We wish you the best on your future grilling endeavors.
Food was good. Service adequate. I was disappointed that my favorite dish was taken off the menu but the risotto was good.
One of our favorite places to eat in Ashland. Always creative menu offerings, great quality ingredients, amazing craft cocktails, and service is spot on.
The food was delicious.
The noise level was unbearable and there were few people the.
We asked to be transferred outside and there it was lovely
Thank you for joining us. I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed the food. You are correct, the inside can be quite energetic at times, but I'm happy to hear that moving outside did the trick. I hope you can join us again some time.
Pleasant greeting upon arrival and we were seated promptly. Excellent drink and appetizer choices. We passed on ordering apps as we saw the size of entrees going by. Husband ordered the brisket, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Rich, melt in your mouth tender. Too rich to finish. His only complaint were the side of potatoes that arrived at almost room temp. I had the exquisite scallops, served over risotto. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable and gave us time to enjoy. Highly recommend a visit.
Loved being there again
From the reservation process to paying the final bill, everything went smoothly! Food was good, service was friendly and prompt! This was my first time here and for a business dinner. Will definitely recommend to others and consider coming back again!
This was my second time at Smithfield’s and I brought 7 family members with me. Each member had the best dinner they have ever had - great apps, soup special, meats and fish, sides - and so much none of us had room for dessert! Will definitely eat there as often as we can!
Thank you so much for joining us! So thrilled to hear you had a great time!
This is a return visit, we were last here before the pandemic. The restaurant is clean and looked much like before. The food and drinks are still excellent. We, each, had bone marrow salad. I had scallops with risotto, my husband had the ribeye steak. They were well cooked (not over cooked), well presented and delicious. The wait staff were attentive and friendly. We had nothing to criticize and very grateful to be there.
Bone marrow and BBQ are highlights.
Great menu and service with outdoor dining made it a great dining experience.
Great, attentive service. Some people may complain it was slow but I appreciated it! People have to realize hiring staff during/post COVID is a difficult situation. Food was delicious! Our table had the scallops, halibut, pork belly and duck and everyone was happy.
It’s really hard to say anything negative about this place. So let me just say it’s been a tough year for everyone. Each one of us has been affected by this pandemic in different ways. So much damage has been done and lives lost. Someday soon all things will be better. I have hope in this. I see it in the eyes when I talk to the servers and the optimism they have when they speak. It’s so reassuring to have such welcoming and joyful conversations. They make you feel normality is real even as they wear those masks. The masks seem to disappear when they speak. I miss smiles but you can see a sense of one when you look at there eyes.
Thank you so much. This means so much to us. We love taking care of people. We have stayed in the hospitality business to be just that, hospitable. Thank you for making us feel seen, and I'm glad that we could impart some sense of normalcy in these crazy times. We hope to share those uncovered smiles with you soon, and hope to have you back. All the best, and thank you again.
Great food, great place. Had to wait a while to get served but it was worth it. It is pretty loud so not good for quiet conversation. One of our friends had the pork belly and said it was the best she has ever had. I had the goat cheese soufflé, absolutely delicious. Definitely worth a stop.
Thank you for taking the time to write us. I'm so glad that you enjoyed your meals, and we are working on getting this sped up a bit with extra staff. I hope that you can join us again some time. Cheers.
Food was good but way to slow,
Thank you so much for joining us. I'm glad you enjoyed the meal, and apologize for the delays. We are working hard while understaffed to meet expectations, and I'm sorry that we fell short. Thank you again, and I hope that you can join us again soon.
We arrived for our dinner at 7:07pm. We were sat immediately and given menus. A beverage server came over to give us waters, but did not take our order. Around 7:30, we finally got our cocktail orders taken. At 7:50 we finally got our cocktails and were finally asked to give our order. We got our appetizer at 8:30 and our entrees finally came just after 9 pm. It took over 2 hours for our entree to come! We tried to get our servers attention multiple times. The only person who apologized was the food server. No one came to check on our food and our server did not actually even give us the check, it was the same person who brought our food out. We spent over $200 on food and never once were checked on or updated on our order. It was a special night out celebrating and we were very disappointed.
We totally understand that the restaurant was at capacity and we were not opposed to waiting, but it really felt like our main server was not even attempting to take care of us. Even when we tried to seek him out to get an update on the food order.
I am so very sorry that you had a frustrating dining experience with us. That evening was indeed a perfect storm of issues, and I am so so sorry that you were caught up in it. If you'd like, I am more than happy to send you a gift certificate to join us again. Thank you for joining us and taking the time to let us know what we can do to improve.
Terrific place to dine outside in Ashland. Don’t miss the mac & cheese or creamed spinach.
For the price, the prime rib was just "okay" and the mashed potatoes with it were oddly sour. The meat charcuterie was overcooked for the jerky. The rabbit was good. The bread basket was only 3 small slices of bread for 5 pieces. The scallops were great, the wagu beef burger was wonderful and the ribs were overcooked with an odd BBQ sauce. The peanut butter and chocolate cheesecake was cloyingly sweet with no cheesecake tang.
But the worse part by far was the service. It was slow and chaotic. Several of the wait staff asked to take our beverage order. Then it took FOREVER to get our drinks and the appetizer. Our son was unavoidably late and we were celebrating his birthday and Mother's Day. The waiter harassed him with several ill-advised attempts at joking about his being late. He has a tender heart and was hurt. Took forever to get our meal and then a long time to get our dessert and then bill. Very disappointing considering the price of the meal!
Such creative and fun staff- we had a great time :)
Excellent outside venue. We were there "Mother's Day Eve" and service and ambiance was very good.
Wonderful meal and excellent wine...great date night
Very good food! Amazing number of house made items not usually found. Meat platter had bacon, duck, pate all made there. Desserts also delicious. Negatives were missing menu items though it was last day of weekly open. Service was slow, but I overheard staff member was missing. Ate here while spending the night nearby on way home to Seattle from SF. Hopefully can plan meal there on future trip as well!
Great meal, outside of course. Thanks for being there!
Food was absolutely delicious! Beautiful setting.
Always a great food and drink experience at Smithfield's. The outdoor dining tent is really nice experience on a chilly night.
Incredible meal - the meats were amazingly prepared and delicious! Perfect high end date night restaurant - we’ll be back!
Excellent. One of my favorite local restaurants! I look forward to Covid being over and being ablate sit-in the garden but for now under the tent with a personal fire pit is a really nice touch. Food and service is top notch as always!!
Stopped in Ashland for the night on a road trip from Seattle to Palm Springs. Dinner at Smithfields was great! From the moment you walk in the deep smell of smoked meat is wonderful.
7pm reservation on a Saturday night, was not crowded at all.. maybe Covid? I had the baby rack ribs.... they were fall off the bone good. Thick dry rub on them and slow cooked for so long I could eat most of the bones and get the rich marrow. Had the mac & cheese as a side, which was also wonderful. My daughter had the cheese burger & fries, which she enjoyed.
Always a pleasure. Strict adherence to COVID rules so seating was sparse. Sat outside on a beautiful spring evening. Our entrees were delicious 😋
Our server was very attentive and helpful. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was excellent.
The hostess was great and so was the service. Good wine list. We shall return!!
