We source our meat, fish, produce, beer and wine from over 20 independent and local suppliers to create our menus.
I always enjoy dinner at Smithfields. The food is always good, service great and atmosphere joyful. As I get older, the sound level can be challenging but it's still worth it - will never stop going.
Thank you so much for dining with us! I will be sure to pass along the kind words to the staff. We are continuing to brainstorm ideas of how to help with some of the energetic volume of the dining room during peak hours. Thanks for all the compliments.
We have dined here multiple times, as we live locally. The food, service, value and atmosphere were all excellent. The cocktails were not as outstanding as they have been in the past, which was a disappointment. All in all, we’ll definitely return. However I’ll no longer look forward to the BEST cocktails in the area when dining here.
Thanks so much for coming back! I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed yourself. We are in the midst of making up a brand new cocktail list for everyone's enjoyment. We will work to make sure that the next time you're in, you are wowed by the drinks. All the best.
Really loved the hangar steak and the fries with the bernaise sauce! Cooked at the right temperature and the fries were crispy and they had a very friendly staff. I had a pleasant experience but I want to give them more credit bc of the table next to me complaining about everything and the staff was so courteous and kind and accommodating without any sort of attitude (even though I was starting to think these ladies were being high maintenance and I would have given them attitude myself) but truly a lovely experience at Smithfields ❤️
The food was good. It was pretty spendy and the waitress was a little absent. Cold in the corner. Decent night out.
Thank you so much for joining us! If you have time, I would love to hear more about what we could have done to have made it a fantastic evening out. Thank you again for the feedback, and I hope we can have you join us for a perfect night out next time.
Wait time needs to be shortened. Waited one hour before we were helped and was able to order our meal and another hour for the food to arrive at our table.
My husband and I are so glad the scallops with mushroom risotto and fennel is back on the menu!!!!! It’s amazing and the best we have ever had. ANYWHERE!!!!
It is always a treat to dine at Smithfields. The food was awesome, as usual, and we were all happily taking taste tests from each other.
My husband and I went in for a late brunch, he ordered the burger which was cooked to perfection per his order, and I had the special, which was chicken and waffle. The chicken was cooked beautifully, moist on the inside, but crunchy and crispy on the outside.
The staff was very attentive and friendly, looking forward to going back.
the ribs were delicious! service was very good- very thoughtful and patient. it’s a little bit dark ambiance wise but not in a bad way- just something to note. highly recommend !!
My wife and I came in for a date night. We shared a bunch of items. The Brussels sprouts were delicious, and I really enjoyed the bone marrow. The rib eye was great, but the steelhead was perfectly cooked with awesome crispy skin. One of the best fish dishes I've had in a while. The mac and cheese was also really tasty, but we ran out of room and took it home for our kids who loved it. We finished up the meal with some lemon tart which was delicious and made me wish we had ordered two. Our server, Meadow, did a very nice job. We hope to come back and try their brunch soon.
apparently the 1st brunch under the new ownership, so kitchen was slow (but service was attentive and apologetic)
This is one of my favorite brunch places, however on a slow Saturday morning brunch something wasn’t quite right. We had realized that it was under new ownership and it was a little unorganized which I will say ok I accept that, however when you pay for cold coffee and the server was not with it, we had to ask for everything, he actually looked and acted like he was hungover. The floor manager did not pick up on our 45 minute wait for our food, or even say hey how is everything. We will go back but we will let the new management figure it out before our next visit.
We had an amazing dinner at Smithfields a few nights ago. We started with the fish chowder. The chowder had a generous portion of fish and complexity of flavors. For the entrees, I ordered the filet and my husband ordered the rib eye. Both steaks were cooked perfectly and delicious. I can't wait to return to try more things on the menu. The atmosphere was romantic with an urban feel and perfect for date night.
Thank you so much for coming in! I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed yourselves. I hope you can join us again soon.
We loved Smithfields, too bad it had to change. We’ve eaten there for many years and had some amazing meals, but not tonight. My wife loved their fried chicken, now not on the menu. The chefs specials were always interesting and whimsical, no specials. When we asked about some of the dishes we had greatly enjoyed, we were very curtly informed that this is the menu, period. We then asked if there had been a change of ownership, answer Yes. So why retain the name if you no longer have the same food and experience. It was now after 8:00, and we’d already been accosted by one of Ashland’s famous homeless militants, so we decided to give it a go. My wife had the fish & chips and I went with the hanger steak. All I can say is that the fries were good. Also good luck with service, slow and non attentive. The restaurant has always been loud, but tonight it was over the top. If you’re into the loud hipster bar vibe, this is your place. We unfortunately felt like there was a bait and switch. This is definitely not the same restaurant that we, and many of the previous reviews had enjoyed.
Thank you so much for taking the time to join us and write. I am sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your meal. You actually managed to join us on our soft opening. Yes, there are new owners, and there have been a few menu changes, however, there have only been small changes to menu and staff. We will continue to refine things, both service wise, and menu wise, with old favorites returning in the coming weeks. I hope that you join us again knowing that everyone has an off night.
Sweet place with yummy food!
Our brunch is as delicious! I had eggs, sausage, and biscuit. I will return
Best brisket around. We have always enjoyed dining at Smithfield’s.
Always good and very consistent compared to other area restaurants. Hanger steak is great!
Great food, 20+ for a dish, was very busy, and loud hard to hold a conversation with your company, very small tables are close together kept getting bumped by the servers.
We decided to try again after three years. I have to say it was so much better this time around. We really had a wonderful enjoyable dinner. I’m glad we tried again.
The food is always wonderful here.
So glad to hear it! Thanks for coming in.
Our food was absolutely delicious! My only negative comment is that my husband ordered the porterhouse lamb and all he got was the lamb—nothing comes with it! You have to order bread separately, vegetables separately, potatoes separately, sauce separately. It’s ridiculous that you don’t get something with the entrée. I had their special that night which was salmon and it did come with a few things and it was delicious!
Had another wonderful night at Smithfields! Such a romantic and cozy restaurant! We started with a couple of delicious drinks. We shared their fall off the bone, mouthwatering St. Louis Ribs. And also a ribeye with a side of cauliflower. Perfect!
Artful comfort food in the hearth of Ashland. Would definitely return.
Wonderful food and delicious desserts. We were there on a quiet night and enjoyed ourselves tremendously. I was served a glass of the best tempernillo I have ever had. Service could be better, lacked warmth and patience. Otherwise a great experience.
excellent fries and steak. service was a little slow, but it was a busy saturday night. one of our favorite places in ashland
The place was pretty busy today.. I love coming here. The food is really good, drinks are wonderful.
Everything was awesome, food was meat oriented deliciousness. They only allow dogs on the patio, during the Summer. It was hard to have a conversation because of how loud everyone else was being...I guess it was just Busy. Good idea to Reserve a Table. Thank You
We throughly enjoyed our dining experience!
It was a lovely meal in a warm friendly environment.
We will come back again.
I ordered a Breakside IPA and it was flat. it tasted like the keg had been sitting for a long time when they said "we just tapped it". I ordered the house brisket and when it arrive it was dry. like it had sat for a long time before it got re-heated and placed on my plate. I didn't have enough BBQ sauce to make it any better.
I very much liked the smoked pork loin benedict with spinach and rice flour muffin. My companions liked their dishes, too, but not as well (a duck dish and a shrimp Po Boy). The waitpersons were helpful without being "helicopters." Atmosphere is pleasant and welcoming. The main drawback is the noise level -- "energetic" indeed, enough that it's a little hard to converse. Last time I ate here was summertime, and one can get away from the noise by eating outside. I would definitely return.
Very disappointed at our first visit. With all the high ratings, we had looked forward to trying them. The food is priced on the higher end, which is fine for a great food experience, but this was nothing close to what we'd expected. My wife had the scallop entree which sounded great, but ended up being three smaller sized scallops which were just OK. A bit sad for a dinner entree. I chose the "Never fails" choice of prime rib entree which was recommended by our server. The cut was no more than a 1/2 inch thick, and was so saturated in worcestershire sauce, there was no flavor of meat to be had. It came on Horseradish mashers, which again were so strongly flavored with horseradish that it overpowered even the worcestershire soaked meat. To take two small bites and literally have such strong flavors dominate your tastebuds was hardly worthy of a 4.5 star rating. Luckily we enjoyed a fantastic show following a meal that left a bad taste in our mouths. We love exploring all of the wonderful dining experiences Ashland and the surrounding area have to offer, but will not be returning or recommending Smithfields to anyone .
We have never been disappointed in the food or service at Smithfield’s. One of our regular go to places because we can always count on this.
We made reservations for dinner at 6:15p before an 8p show at OSF...and we noted this in our reservation. We were seated promptly on arrival. Cocktails were excellent. Once our food order was taken our server didn’t check on us again during the more than 45m it took for our food to arrive. The “1/2 chicken” (which we intended to share) turned out to be only a drumstick and thigh. The sides of mac and cheese and baked beans were served so incredibly hot that it was impossible to take a bite without getting burned. When the sides finally cooled enough to try, the flavor was bland. This place has such great reviews, but our experience left us very disappointed and rushing to get to the theatre in time. Hope it was just an off night.
Excellent menu and lovely room. The food was great one of the best risottos I have had. Server and hostess very welcoming. and yes it was quiet so we could have a conversation without shouting.
Not cheap but worth the evening. Will go again next time I come to Ashland.
Making reservations was very easy to do via website. Service was great. Food was delicious.
We had a terrific dinner with an innovative cocktail. The restaurant was very responsive as we had contacted it earlier about a special arrangement. We were really impressed with their response, even though we did not end up needing anything special.
This is cozy place that would be great for any occasion.
We may have to make an effort to drive through Ashland so we can eat there more often.
Excellent brunch, service was slow but they were busy, no refills on coffee, but food was great!
This has been our family's favorite brunch spot for the last five years (at least.) In the summertime, the patio cannot be beat and in the winter it always feel so cozy inside. Their bloodies are art. Their chicken n' waffles bring my wife joy and the coffee never runs out. Did I mention that they treat our children like royalty? They are lovely people serving delicious food in an inviting atmosphere. Huzzah!
Great food, great atmosphere. We completely enjoyed our dining experience. Highly recommended.
