Making reservations was very easy to do via website. Service was great. Food was delicious.
We had a terrific dinner with an innovative cocktail. The restaurant was very responsive as we had contacted it earlier about a special arrangement. We were really impressed with their response, even though we did not end up needing anything special.
This is cozy place that would be great for any occasion.
We may have to make an effort to drive through Ashland so we can eat there more often.
Excellent brunch, service was slow but they were busy, no refills on coffee, but food was great!
This has been our family's favorite brunch spot for the last five years (at least.) In the summertime, the patio cannot be beat and in the winter it always feel so cozy inside. Their bloodies are art. Their chicken n' waffles bring my wife joy and the coffee never runs out. Did I mention that they treat our children like royalty? They are lovely people serving delicious food in an inviting atmosphere. Huzzah!
Excellent Food; Great experience - had some hiccups with service that were proactively addressed; hostess and waitress went above expectations to enhance experience with genuine apologies.
Great food. Great service. The perfect “date” night experience.
Had a great dinner at Smithfields. A very good arugala and pear salad and the scallops with risotto was excellent. Nice wine selection. We will definitely go back the next time we are in Ashland.
Probably the last time we will eat there and we have been multiple times, food always tends to be good but the staff is usually sub par and with the exception of just one of our half a dozen plus visits has been, but this night was exceptionally poor and it started right out of the gate with the hostess and her poor attitude, we honestly almost just walked out after being seated because of it, (and in hind sight probably should have) at least our waitress was nice, she just wasn't a person that should be waiting tables.
I am not a person that typically writes reviews and typically a better than average tipper, probably even when it is not warranted and I am sure considering the level of service did it again this night, (and maybe I am part of the problem because of that) but they should know it will probably be the last time they see us, or a better than deserved tip from us, or get our recommendation.
My recommendation for the restaurant would be to take out some tables and make it a little more intimate so you are not sitting in the lap of your neighbor, at this price point it should be and by all means screen your staff better, or train them better, but chances are until they hire a better manager that isn't going to happen, in my experience staff and employees tend to emulate the manager or owners traits or faults, but my guess is that is not going to happen since they have been successful doing it like they have, it just won't be for us or anyone that asks us.
The food and service are consistently exceptional. One of the best spots for dinner in Ashland.
Excellent food and service but the space is small and loud
We always go to Smithfield's when we are in Ashland and are never disappointed. The food is always great as is the service. We highly recommend it.
We are from California and when we visit Ashland each year we ALWAYS go to Smithfield’s… It’s one of our favorite restaurants!!!
Best charcuterie board, ribs, and bacon!!!
Fabulous find! What a sparkling gem to find situated just off the main street of down town Ashland. Warm greeting at the door started our journey to our table on the charming patio out back. The service was superb as was the icy cocktail to start. We had an array of starters to get a real feel of the food and all were just delightful - the grilled romaine, peaches & prosciutto and grilled shrimp & grits. I had a perfectly grilled rib eye steak that was flavorful and tender. The fish & chips delighted my dining partner, lightly breaded and cooked perfectly. We look forward to our next visit there - Cheers!
Hanger steak with peppercorn sauce was a disappointment. Sauce didn’t have any flavor. My husband’s steak was given to another table so we had to wait for his to be redone. Again not much flavor. Won’t return there. As opposed to the Loft by the creek which was excellent. Steak au poivre you could cut it with your fork. Lots of flavor.
My partner and I went to the green show and then came here. We had a reservation, and I anticipated it being very crowded, but it was not at all. Portions and meals were fantastic, and had great flavor. The scallops dish was fantastic. Creme brûlée and cheesecake desserts did not disappoint. Definitely will be back!
The pacing was very uneven. The bone marrow was very good. My wife enjoyed the bacon beignets.
Really interesting food that tastes great. Good service - offered thoughtful suggestions and recommendations, a wine list with some some unique offerings that are affordable
The food was really great. The main issue we had was that there were so many flies. It was gross and made it hard to enjoy the awesome food. The service was so so.
I felt for $116 dollar dinner for 2 and 3 drinks was a bit much. I had the rib eye and as it was cooked as ordered, for the price I could of went and bought 3 or 4 1inch think cut steaks. I do alot of cooking and BBQ and it's hard to beat a trager wood fired steak. The service was great and the food was good, just wish the steak for the price was a little thicker.
Add Daniel's charm and knowledge to a superlative meal and the inviting patio ambiance, and it was a perfect evening!
great atmosphere, we sat outside, the food was solid. I had the Ribeye and it tasted great. My wife had the scallops and she was very pleased. The waiter was kind of unfriendly but everyone has bad nights
Beautiful setting, beautiful food, good service.
We've tried Smithfields twice and both times the service has been so poor, and so slow, that we won't be going back. After our first visit, we decided to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt, thinking that maybe we just came on an off night. We tried again. Most recently, even though we had a reservation, we had flag down a waiter after a 35 minute wait with menus in front of us. After ordering, we waited another 45 minutes before the food arrived. Again, we had to inquire. No one came by the table to say our order would be coming shortly. No one offered a complimentary dessert or glass of wine even after multiple questions. I cannot recommend this restaurant, in spite of its beautiful patio.
I enjoyed a lovely dinner at Smithfield’s while I was exploring Ashland/Medford and the area.
The food was excellent and I could not have asked for better service. My waiter, Daniel, was professional, friendly and took wonderful care to make my evening an experience. He also took the time to share information on the area and make recommendations for other good restaurants and things to do.
I look forward to returning when I’m in the area again.
Nice menus choices, good drinks and wine choices. Food was quite good, however, the kitchen seemed to be backed up and despite assurances that the "entrees are being plated", the food took a long time to get to the table.
We had the bread appetizer, hanger steak, and pork chop. All were delicious! It was great to sit outside.
We sat outside on a perfect Ashland Sunday brunch event with friends. All the servers wanted to make sure we were comfortable and even did some research when we had odd questions. We all enjoyed our meals as well.
We had a wonderful Birthday celebration. Dan was our server and added greatly to our experience, ensuring we were well taken care of, enjoying the food, and helping with wine selection. We decided to sit outside, and this added to our evening as the outside was quieter, and the patio just beautiful! Not to mention the weather/temperature could not have been more perfect. My out-of-town town guests loved the whole evening. And the “Birthday Boy” was thrilled with his delicious NY strip.
Lovely service and food! This is my favorite place to eat in Ashland.
My husband & I were celebrating our 35th anniversary, which is a bit of a landmark. We requested a window seat, but were told that the window seats had all been reserved. We wound up sitting in a tight corner table for 2 that was most uncomfortable. During our 1 1/2 hours at Smithfield’s, at least one of the window-side tables remained vacant the entire time. In addition, there was absolutely NO AMBIENCE at the restaurant—server was fine, but didn’t necessarily make us feel welcome, and the host made us feel MOST UNWELCOME. Finally, my husband’s halibut was quite over cooked. (I will add, however, that my scallops were incredible.) Our dining experience at Smithfield’s definitely put a damper on our 35th.
Great food. Good service. What more can you ask for?
We love Smithfields! Dog friendly, people friendly, and delicious food. Very creative chef and well trained servers. The beignets are melt in your mouth and scrumptious. Meet dishes are always interesting, creative and satisfying. We go here every time we're in town.
Wonderful place, always a stop for us each year in Ashland. Love that bacon is incorporated into almost everything...as they say, its a meat-centric place! Try the bacon wrapped shrimp with cheese grits!
Waitress said she was new can’t remover her name
There were many flies around us. I personally killed 4 while we were there. Food was cold, and the appetizers came out with the dinner. Highly disappointing
Everything went well, food was very good, service outstanding, ambiance ok, pricing reasonable. If there was anything that I thought was lacking it was the 5 oz pours on wine. I felt it should be 6 oz and even said I would pay a little more for a larger pour. It evidently was not possible.
The food was fantastic as usual. My mom ordered the pancake and said it was the best that she's ever had. We were celebrating a birthday and it was the perfect meal.
Meat was cooked very sub par, unless one lamb porterhouse was suppose to be cooked a whole grade below the other. Got a rare piece and a medium rare piece?
Great food and service! Our waiter has a great sense of humor and was very attentive.
