Food was great! Casual atmosphere. They were seating outside as well as in with heaters in a tent. We were inside and they were leaving the door open which made it pretty chilly inside. Server was stretched a bit thin but all in all a great experience.
Our 40th Wedding anniversary was celebrated with beautiful attentiveness and incredible food. Can’t say enough about the halibut and gnocchi. Everyone cleaned their plate until there was not a speck of anything left. The new cocktail list is wonderful. The service is extraordinary
Very large portions. Average prices. Most of food items were good to very good, brisket was inedible.
Great meal! Loved the bone marrow and the Wagu Rib Eye.
I used to love going to Smithfield’s, but this last time the service was terrible; no forewarnings of wait times, no one checked out our table for thirty minutes at a time, a few moments was 45 minutes later. Just super disappointing for a usually great place.
They seemed to have only one server for the entire outdoor area. Although he was efficient and great overall and didn't detract from the meal it would have been nice to be checked on more than once.
Also, I was surprised how many family came with children. Although the kids were well behaved they are still kids and subtracted some of the enjoyment of the outside area.
The food was very good, though maybe not reflective of prices. Bar menu would have been more appreciated if it had been a bit more expansive. Service from bar was excellent. We were not greeted by wait staff for at least 5+ after being sat. Would go again, but will look into other options before doing so.
Delicious as always. Great atmosphere and delicious cocktails.
The scallops were absolutely perfect but the steak was a huge disappointment.
The food was very good, but we waited a long time for service.
Food and service was, as usual, very good. It is always a pleasure to dine here.
delicious food...I would go back. Delicious food!
We are regulars at Smithfields and have never had a problem. Sadly this experience might keep us from coming back. We were seated and were the second table seated in the entire restaurant. We got our drink and food order in relatively normal time. BUT we waited 1 hour and 15 minutes before we got two salads and two soups. Granted, the restaurant did filled up after we ordered our food. But we watched tables get food an leave before we got our appetizers. Our waiter never made eye contact and avoided coming to our area. We had to flag another waitress and plead for an update. All she said was "all the tables came in at once." Those other tables did, but we had been there long enough before them. They clearly didn't put our order in. When appetizers finally came, the salad was lovely, but the hot soup was room temperature. 30 minutes after appetizers we finally got the rest of the food (2 hrs from when we ordered). The brisket was dry and room temperature. Fish and chips was raw and cold on the inside, had to send fish back. Our guest was so turned off by the experience we didn't replace it with something else. All we wanted to do was savage our evening and leave, but no effort to apologize from the waitstaff for the really bad experience. This was suppose to be a special birthday dinner and we had to leave and go someplace else for drinks and large desserts to feed the folks that didn't eat their meals.
I know staff has been an issue since COVID, but this seemed like errors on the front and back of the house compounded the experience. This is unfortunate. Not sure Smithfield's will be on our rotation of local restaurants again. Does it have to do with the new owners? The Alchemy bar turned bad as well... Maybe?
For the waiter that we gave 20% because we are not jerks. Engage with customers if you know their food is backed-up. Ask them if they want more drinks, cold app. Avoidance is bad! You did not deserve 20% we gave you.
It was OK, but very overpriced, and almost all of the dinner entrees had run out. We were left alone for a long time outside and it generally wasn't the most comfortable. Very cute ambiance and I trust their full menu is delicious, but we must have gotten them on a bad night.
Excellent meat selection cooked to perfection with a variety of sauces and side dishes. Lovely outdoor setting on the terrace under the trees. Highly recommended.
Wait time for food was very long, 45 min after our appetizer was finished we got the main course. Steak was over cooked and over priced. Had to ask for silverware for the main dish.
This place is top notch! Not only was the service by Chris friendly and professional, they nailed it with their menu and execution. We started off with their liver pate and grilled sourdough and a refreshing butter lettuce salad. My husband had their seafood special- scallops and mushroom risotto. Hands down the best risotto we’ve ever had. I would have stolen his meal if mine wasn’t so amazing as well. I had the NY steak and it was cooked perfectly. To end a great meal, we had their chocolate mouse with amaretto cream!
Oh and that’s just the food, their cocktails are also to exceptional! AND they can make a mean mocktail! Wish we lived closer!
Our food was really great but our table location was unfortunate. I'm sure it was impacted a bit by social distancing requirements, but we were led to a table right in front of the bar at an intersection between the bar, host, and server main walkways. The floor was constantly shaking due to all the hard-working staff moving quickly around the table on each side. I was disappointed especially since I had made a reservation and made a note that we were on our honeymoon. We were about to speak up when the only better table became occupied. It was just unfortunate. Food was good, though!
Would have loved to see some good alcohol free drinks. Zero in the way of mocktails or even non-alcoholic drinks listed on the menu which is a pet peeve of mine as a non-drinker but foodie when at a nice place. We had the bone marrow, butter leaf salad, rib eye, the cassoulet, and the creme brule. All were great. Service was a bit slow, and seemed overwhelmed/distracted.
Been here before and it was great, this time all the meat was overcooked. Chicken was dry, brisket was dry, ny strip was charred too much.
We had a long drive and wanted an early dinner. This place was recommended and we got there right when it opened. My husband and I both had burgers, beer and collard greens. Everything was delicious and service was excellent. The staff did a great job sitting people part, and they all work masks. Overall, we had an excellent experience.
This is one of our favorite restaurants anywhere. The menu is unique, and we have yet to try anything that didn’t go beyond our hopes. The poach and roast chicken is my favorite roast chicken anywhere. But the menu goes far deeper, and anything that sounds commonplace is done so differently and perfectly that comparisons don’t mean anything. The cocktails are also a degree or five above most any anywhere else. The servers are happy, professional and personal. We go nowhere else when visiting Ashland. A restaurant perfected!
The flavor if the food was good however the value was not. It was a very expensive meal for what we would consider mediocre.
We all ordered drinks and also had a bottle of water. All were gone before our meal came and we were never asked if we wanted more, even the water was not refilled .
We had guests from out of town and we wanted a nice meal, sadly Road House would have probably been a better choice for the value.
My new favorite place in southern Oregon. Outstanding!!!
It was beautiful, quiet and the food was amazing!
We came to our favorite restaurant for our anniversary. We sat outside and it was lovely! Great service and outstanding food.
Great food. Everyone following covid guidelines so felt safe and welcome. Good service in spite of being busy.
Smithfield's garden is a beautiful spot for a summer dinner. Their menu is interesting and varied. One of us ordered the bone marrow as an appetizer but they brought a huge plate of it with toasted baguette slices. He liked it. Our dog was even more enthusiastic about it and the bone we gave him kept him quite busy. I had the cassolet with duck confit with a lentil, bean, tomato sauce, thinner and different from the kind I make myself, but I enjoyed it. The hangar steak was wonderful. However the briskit was dry and tasteless, not up to their usual quality so we sent it back. The mac & cheese was decent. I would say that the dinner was quite good but not up to the excellent meals we have had there in the past. We drank a bottle of Gigondas which was outstanding, the highlight of the meal, in my opinion.
I’ve been to Smithfield’s many times but never written a review. Even in the middle of a pandemic, the service, the flavors, and the ambience were superb.
This was a perfect meal. Been wanting to come here for a while and had a foodie friend visiting from out of town so made reservations. Food and service did not disappoint. Their back patio is perfect for a summer night. Ribeye and pork chop were no joke and their Mac n cheese is on point.
Had a delicious dinner here for our 25th anniversary. I had the Wagyu ribeye and a London Fog, while my wife had the BLT salad and Mac & cheese with a drink called “She asked me to rum.” Everything consisted of high-quality ingredients prepared very well. The cocktails were on the small side, particularly for the price, but they were delicious! Outside seating was lovely.
The garden setting is lovely and the food is delicious. My husband had the brisket and I had the chicken. We ordered sides of roasted carrots and parsnips and mashed potatoes. All of it was extraordinary. The portions are large. We had our little dog with us and they were very accommodating. Our server brought him water. I highly recommend Smithfield’s for great food and excellent service.
Amazing food. Thank you for making my birthday extra special.
Took my adult son here. He said it was the best steak he’s ever had. I think he may be right. Really great.
Great time there. The food was amazing and the drinks were great. The bartender gave his recommendations on wine and food pairs and was spot on.
Every one there was friendly and made it a great experience.
A very nice place. My ribs were ok, although they seemed a bit overcooked and dry. It’s possible others would find them fine.
The macaroni and cheese side was great, but it’s hard to go wrong with cheese.
Was looking forward to a great night out first time in Ashland and for our 35th wedding anniversary but was very disappointed. I thought this was a high end restaurant but you couldn’t tell that by the food and especially not by the service. Our server took quite a long time to even acknowledge us and that was after I asked the Bartender if we would be waited on soon. When she finally did come to our table she didn’t even introduce herself or apologize for the delay. The only good service we got was from the Bartender. He was very attentive. Was looking forward to a seafood dinner but they were out of the one dish they offered and had to send back the cauliflower because it tasted like Mexican food when this was a steakhouse. We originally had reservations for another local restaurant and I guess we should have went with that one. Again, very disappointed.
Smithfield's on the patio is always a delight! The food presentation was very attractive and delicious--perfect weather for brunch.
We joined Smithsfields for dinner after a long day of traveling with our family and two dogs. That patio was pleasant and the staff was very accommodating. Food was great!
Thank you so much for taking a moment to write. I'm so glad you enjoyed yourselves.
Smithfield's never disappoints as their food and location is very enjoyable; however, I always think it is strange how stingy they are with bread on dishes that require bread (roasted bone marrow). When you have 4 bones worth of marrow to eat and they serve 3 tiny crustini, it is really out of proportion. We even asked for extra bread when we ordered because we knew about this and they only included 5. The meal really requires about 8 or so. You need to make a change.
Thanks for coming in! I'll be sure to speak with the chef about that and we will implement some bread changes. I hope you can join us again soon.
