Smithfields Restaurant and Bar located in Ashland, Oregon is a neighborhood steakhouse which specializes in sustainable "nose-to-tail" dining (utilizing the whole animal) and in-house charcuterie.

We source our meat, fish, produce, beer and wine from over 20 independent and local suppliers to create our menus.

Started with an excellent , large pour, gin martini. Almost as good as I make at home after 40 years practice. The scallops and mushroom risotto were piping hot and pleasingly al dente. Excellent meal at a good price.

Smithfield's in Ashland was a real treat, and its grasp of traditional French dishes was exceptional. We shared the roasted marrow bones to start, a generous portion with 4 decadent halves offset by a spoonful of piquant capers and crisp croutons. The hanger steak was perfectly medium rare, nestled on mesclun, with a green peppercorn sauce any Parisian bistro would be proud to serve. But the cassoulet with confit de canard was astounding, the best version of this dish we've found in the US--and we have done serious research on several trips to the Motherland. The chef, John, said he spent 2 days simmering the creamy beans in reduced broths, and his accents of bacon, merguez sausage, and roasted tomato were generous. The duck joint itself was fork tender with the requisite crisped skin, not an easy feat but critical to the success of the dish. The wine list was eclectic in origins, varietals, and prices; clearly a lot of expertise has gone into each choice. Can't wait to try some of their other dishes next time we are passing through Ashland.

The “cassoulet” was one of the best I’ve had. The Brussels sprouts special was out of this world. We will be back next time we are in town.

Appetizer was not cooked throughly, the menu doesn’t say all steaks are char grilled(which I hate) all you taste is char, and the Mac and cheese was very bland. The brisket was pretty good but the mash potato’s were not good. 110 dollars later and the only thing good was my cocktail.

I had not been to Smithfields since last summer. To be honest, I had a really bad experience when my daughter was visiting last summer and was a bit reluctant to try it again. The problem wasn’t the food — rather with the service. Our waiter, who was nice but a dunderhead, forgot to put in our order and we waited over an hour to get our entrees. Well, what a pleasant surprise this time. The service was stellar! Prompt, friendly and competent. It seems as though the restaurant has re-organized in order to provide better service as as two lovely ladies appeared at our table along with our excellent waiter. Everyone wore a smile! The fish special of halibut, the Brussels sprouts were excellent and my guest had the fish+chips... all very good. Beer and wine list also good with nice selections. We even splurged and had the peanut butter cheesecake with caramel sauce — ack! So good!

Good atmosphere, excellent presentation, service, and quality of food. They serve popcorn as a way to tide you over, like others do with bread. My date had steak and loved it. They nailed medium rare.

You can get an equivalent quality meal in Medford for quite a bit less. The menu is deceptive, being kind of semi ala carte. With entre priced salads, and sides on top of main courses priced at a level that would be a complete meal elsewhere-the final tally can be surprising. The quality is there, but the settings isn't anything extraordinary. I think I'll stick with the spots I know in Medford.

Table in the middle of the server path was a negative - steak 1 medium well (fat filled) and medium rare (more like medium) Mashed potato's dry - cauliflower dish seemed to be a mix of cauliflower and broccoli - wine overpriced

It's a great place to get some solid meat dishes. The place really doesn't break the bank like a steakhouse can, and they have a lovely wine selection.

A local favorite! Every occasion is appropriate from a casual meal out to a special celebration. I recommend picking an entree and sharing all the sides! So yummy!

It was a nice place, but the tables are to close together. The steak tartar had a lot of mustard on it and you couldn’t take anything else. My friends got the fish special and thought it was very good but one thought that it was over spiced also.

The lighting was a little dark, but romantic. Candles on the tables added to that. It was very crowded, especially at the bar. The noise level was a little loud, but not overbearing. The service was very friendly and not lacking. They were always there when we needed them. The food was very expensive, but just mediocre. We started with Brussel sprouts in a vinaigrette. The cooked ones were very delicious, but there were a lot of undercooked ones as well. The steak was cooked to order, but nothing special. I could have done the same at home. The mashed potatoes were good. Dessert was a deconstructed tiramisu, pretty tasty. Overall, it was a very expensive ($122) meal. I'm glad that I got to experience this once, but for the money I'll never go back.

Had better meals. Goat cheese fries delicious and filet very good. Bacon wrapped shrimp and grits. The bacon was fatty and raw. Couldn’t eat it. Fennel side dish over cooked, so mushy. Had great meals before, but our anniversary dinner was a miss. Have to rethink our return.

A mid level spot, nothing exceptional one way or the other. Service was good and attentive and management was attentive. My steak was cooked as ordered, yet quality was ‘mid’ level. A good spot for comfortable conversations, but not exceptional in the food department.

Dinner was a celebratory event and it was not great. Food was adequate and not worth its value. The actual restaurant was very nice, great atmosphere and comfortable. Inside the restaurant some sort of emergency causing lots of smoke inundating the dining room area occurred. Service was great, but we would not return or recommend it to others.

Went to Smithfield’s for NewYear’s Eve and had a great meal! My husband had a stuffed pork chop, that was as good as anything you will find in San Francisco. Honestly, I have never had anything quite,like it. I had their burger which was perfection. Looking forward to trying more at Smithfield’s.

Our Anniversary falls on New Years Eve and we had a wonderful dinner there a couple years ago... We decided to return and even requested our same table!!! Smithfields not only reserved our same table but served us a wonderful meal, great service and a fabulous evening overall!!!

Dee is always a pleasure to see! She is the consummate professional and a fun person too! The food is fab, the service is great and it is a wonderful place to enjoy a delicious cocktail and appetizers and the entrees are scrumptious! Highly recommend to locals and tourists alike. And when the warmer weather comes back ,the outdoor patio is absolutely lovely!

This is a great restaurant. The menu is exciting, and the kitchen is filled with energy. It is a nice room with a fine bar, and all of the employees seem like family. Anything meat is done to perfection. We go here every time we are on Ashland without fail. It is always perfect.

Excellent selection of various meats and tasty side dish offerings. Good options of specialty mixed drinks and draft beers. I expected more engaged and attentive service, which was adequate. I would go back again when in Ashland.

Loved the food and the staff-some of the most creative use of ingredients anywhere and near-perfect preparation. Only downside is that it was really noisy, even when not full (low ceiling, relatively small dining room). It looks like they've tried to mitigate the noise, but for any repeat visit, we'd need to figure out their off-times, if any.

I had the pan-seared scallops over a bed of mushroom risotto. Absolutely delicious! By far the best dining experience I've had in many years. Great wait staff! Friendly and attentive! Don't miss Smithfield's! You won't be dissapointed!!

The day we were there the tables were way too close together. It appeared that the restaurant was trying to pack in as many people as possible for the holidays.
My 6 oz. steak was quite good but it would have been better if there was a combo of green veggies and less French fries on the plate.
We also ordered the brisket but didn’t like its flavoring much.

I went there for my birthday and everything was pretty good. The only thing that I wasn’t too impressed with was how crowded the area was. We were practically sharing a table with people next to us and it was hard not to eavesdrop being in such close proximity. The food and service were good though. I would recommend this place for non romantic restaurant goers. I’m glad we went on my birthday and not for an anniversary. I would prefer a more intimate setting for a romantic evening.
