"In 1853 in Smith Flat, over the top of the Deep Blue Channel, the Three Mile House was built. Named for its distance from central Placerville on the trail to Carson City, today it is known as the Smith Flat House. It originally consisted of a general store, post office, bedroom, dining room and dance floor. Over the next century and a half the Smith Flat House served many purposes; operating as a wagon stop during the bonanza days of the Comstock mines, as well as a hotel and restaurant, run by the Fossati family, for decades. The Smith Flat House has long been a part of the history of El Dorado County, changing with the times, always enduring and providing a wonderful gathering space for the people. Today, we strive to continue this tradition as an inviting destination for excellent food, events and activities that nourish our community and those who visit our region."

I was a bit worried because I heard they possibly changed ownership and that service had been lacking.
Went with a group of 6 and were bundled up to sit outside freezing but they had a wide variety of heating lamps and fire pits which kept everyone toasty and actually was able to take off bulky coat and enjoy our meal.
The food from the starters to dessert was great! Their pork belly and scallops is soo good! also the prawns were good size and enough for a meal.
The men had steak and pizza and all plates were large portions.
We even had a complimentary dessert (creme brulee) due to birthdays at table and was pleasantly surprised.
The only dip in one star is we had to tell server 3 times to get a dish of water for the dog but other than that-exceptional!
We all commented about what a great place SMF is and will be back.

Fresh, excellent food with personable service. They were even able to accommodate my dietary restrictions! Our group of 4 felt safe with all the pandemic precautions. We will be back!

It was so nice to get out of the house and in the atmosphere of this historic building. The food was great and our waitress was excellent! We went for our anniversary with my family and enjoyed it so much. It was a much deserved evening. I already recommended the Smith Flat House to me co-workers.

We waited an hour to be seated with reservations. The staff is lacking all customer service. It was horrible and I will never go back. The management could care less, too. It’s such a shame this restaurant has changed ownership.

Wonderful restaurant to spend my birthday on December 24th. We will definitely be going back but this time we will request seating in the glassed in Garden Room. It looked absolutely beautiful in there with the lights and Christmas decorations. We were seated in the cellar/wine room downstairs, which was also very nice and was not cold at all. I felt the tables were spaced adequately. My brother ordered the Black and White 8oz and he could cut the meat with his fork. I ordered the Lamb Shank cooked eight hours with wild mushrooms and marsala wine. It was incredible. Our compliments to the Chef, our waiter Evan (?) and the sweet Hostess. The only thing that would have made it perfect was if they served cocktails. They only serve beer and wine. ALL were wearing masks the entire time we were there.

We were downstairs, it seemed like none of the servers were communicating to each other. It was really slow service, and several requests took so long we gave it up. Like just refill on coffee etc.

We have been able to visit here twice in the past month to celebrate special occasions. Shelby was our waitress both visits and nothing but spectacular. Remembered our orders from the first visit and continued her amazing service for the second visit as well. We will be back very soon to enjoy this establishments wonderful food and service.

Service was amazing! Waitress was so accommodating and took us on a tour of the cellar- can’t wait till restrictions are lifted and we can enjoy the full nostalgic beauty of this historic Restuant! The jazz band was perfect...background music for eating patrons without being to loud allowing everyone to enjoy good conversation over VERY delicious food!!

My experience would have been alot more lovely and 5 stars BUT for the fact that the restaurant dis not require face coverings. There was a man and woman who entered the outdoor area walked extremely close to my table and were not wearing masks. The man coughed several times which put me on edge. I really believe for other diners the restaurant has to protect our wellbeing. Very disappointing as the food and service werewonderful. I would not go back based on that single so important factor.

It was such a nice surprise to eat at Smith Flat House for Thanksgiving. Given that we weren't going to see family, we wanted something a little special but also safe. SMH had tables set up outside in courtyard with heating lamps and fire-pit. We dressed warm in case but actually wasn't needed. Service was impeccable with Lorraine as our server and the food was spectacular along with dessert. For all we got, from appetizer to dessert and a glass of wine-you couldn't beat the price either. This might become our new Thanksgiving tradition!

Little awkward on arrival. Zero clue on if there was a hostess. We had to actually stop a server for help. They don’t have wine tastings as we assumed since it’s a winery. Food was decent, but a little over priced. Seating was spaced out and they cleaned well between patrons which is good. Facilities weren’t the cleanest.

Unfortunately the service was terrible. Waited despite our reservation then was not able to sit outside on the patio. We were taken inside but never got waited on:( we ended up leaving. Really disappointing.

Dropped in for the weekend brunch on our weekly drive through Placerville. Pleased we found it. Very attractive and maintained venue. Patio closed given the weather, but can see the attractiveness of this area in the summer and fall. Menu very good as lunch options as well as the brunch items. Well prepared and all enjoyed. Service attentive and friendly. Will return.

Our Rib Eye steak was tasteless, Appetizer was the shrimp and that was chewy.

My lamb shanks were delicious and highly recommended. My partner's rib eye wasn't to his standards which are quite high. The wine list was good, but I've seen better in the foothills.

I’ve been here before and I was quite good. I wanted outdoor dining and they offered it. The $10 glass of Cab was the highlight of the meal. I ordered the special - grilled salmon with a cucumber salad. Salmon was over cooked on a bed of unseasoned clumpy rice. The cucumber salad was a mess of mayonnaise cucumbers and dill. Service was sparse

We went here over Halloween Weekend. They have a beautiful outdoor eating area complete with fireplaces, space heaters, and patio lighting. The food was excellent and cooked to perfection. We have been here one time about 4 years ago and were eager to get back! Our server Shelby helped us work through the menu and pair a great wine with our Filet as well as dessert.
I have recommended Smith Flat House to my parents, as well as friends and family who visit Placerville. If you want a wonderful dining experience perfect for a date night this is the spot to be!
