Went for Thanksgiving dinner, buffet style. Waitress was terrific, kept stopping back to see if we need refills or anything else. Buffet included turkey, prime rib and ham along with all the sides. Oyster on the half shell and dessert. First time here, going to be coming back. Great wine list
This restaurant handled a large event extremely well. Our only suggestions would be to set up a separate station area for appetizers such as soup & salad. Add another shellfish to seafood station as not everyone eats oysters, maybe have some start times every half hour to fill in.
This, my third visit to Smashing Grapes in a week, was my best expereince there so far. I researched local restaurants for a special dinner for two friends and myself. I chose Smashing Grapes because of its ambience, wine selection, and menu selections. Then unexpectedly, I wound up visiting with a different friend just the the week before and for an after-theater dessert with my husband.
For the dinner with my two friends, we sat in a roomy and comfortable booth. Lisa was our waiter, and she was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. It was clear she'd been trained to discuss and serve wine. We were happy to be able to order a bottle of local Maryland wine. The three of us shared several appetizers and small plates for our dinner: lamb meatballs with chickpeas, shrimp diablo, and the Mission fig flatbread. That was plenty for the three of us, and we enjoyed all of it. We did save room for dessert, though! We shared an order of the doughnuts (so glad they hadn't run out this time!), a carrot cake, and blueberry bread pudding. All were delicious. The latter two were not at all typical of what you usually get at a restaurant (unless it's a pricey, exclusive place)--unique and tasty preparations and not too heavy. The doughnuts are simply delightful!
I'm sure I'll be back many times--and hopefully at some point I can enjoy the wonderful outdoor spaces that Smashing Grapes has available. (It was too cold each time I went so far.)
Great first experience
Fabulous , great food, great service, beautiful atmosphere
The ambiance was nice, mild, quiet. The waitress Maggie was awesome. She was covering tables across the restaurant but she dismiss a beat. The two Managers were a great support to the very busy waitress. The food was delicious and the house wine was great also. I look forward to visiting and enjoying a meal there again.
Smashing Grapes is a beautiful place to meet and dine. A friend and I had dinner together and shared our food selections. We enjoyed the expereince but found a few aspects less than ideal.
The restaurant prides itself on its charcuterie boards, yet the only cheeses they include are bleu and fog varieties, which are very similar. With the tremendous selection of domestic and imported cheeses available, why such a lack of variety? I could run across the street to Trader Joe's and find better selections! That was a real disappointment.
Next we split a portion of the lobster risotto--and glad we did, because it was too salty and a full portion would have been overwhelming. There didn't seem to be an ingredient listed that would have imparted such saltiness, so we attributed it to a chef's heavy hand on the salt cellar.
On the other hand, the wines were very nice. I very much appreciated seeing some Finger Lakes (NY) selections on the menu. The sparkling water they serve is Saratoga brand, another personal favorite from Upstate NY. We also enjoyed our plate of mini-doughnuts, and I would certainly order those again!
We had hot drinks with dessert, and the little milk pitcher came to the table with chocolate sauce smeared inside. Of course we asked for that to be replaced.
I will go back, and I expect to enjoy being there again, but I hope they take a few thoughtful steps to improve from good to great.
Staff was friendly. Food was delicious! Chairs were comfortable!! Booth’s seating was too low so one couldn’t comfortably eat. So we sat at a table. Lovely experience!!
Great food and atmosphere.
Dinner was wonderful and also a great wine list
Would definitely come back the only thing was that Wi-Fi service was not strong so for a business meeting would not be great…but overall great experience
Food was very good. The brunch was not crowded at all on a Saturday morning. Recommendation to owners: lower the price on the brunch or make some combos that will get people into the restaurant earlier. Also, one of the workers cursing and tell stories likely will stop us from returning. Overall, good place to eat if you are near the mall, otherwise go to a real breakfast brunch spot.
Excellent atmosphere and super service.
1pm reservation for our work team. Everything was perfect and delicious. Our server was fantastic.
Service was good. But the food left a lot to be desired.
Food was excellent- the service left a lot to be desired. I imagine if we had a different server, we would have had a better experience.
Great food, great wine and great service!! Will return and recommend.
We love coming to Smashing Grape. We like the ability to make a reservation and the service is always good. There are interesting boutique cocktails. We tried the japanese old fashioned and the lavender gin drink w both getting a thumbs up. The new octopus appetizer was amazing as was the cream of mushroom soup. Two of us had the sea bass which melted in your mouth. The only entree that was a disappointment was the avocado fettucine which was kind of bland. Other than that we all had a good time and will be back soon.
Just lunch with friends. All just right.
If you are looking for SPECTACULAR SERVICE, Delicious Cocktails, Great food, Awesome Ambiance, and an all-around Excellent Experience, Smashing Grapes is the place. Nothing will ever be perfect, but it's so nice when something comes this close.
food was great, not superb
salmon portion was small but nice flavor
rockfish was tasty. I ordered it without olives but it came with olives.
The server wasnt too good at putting the entres on the table quietly
I will go back because I like the ambiance and very good wine selection
Nice restaraunt with excellent food, good ambience and reasonable service. I enjoyed it.
Didn’t like the French Toasts nor the maple sausage. Maybe the other brunch items are better.
The experience was great my only issue is the pork alternative for breakfast if turkey sausage or chicken sausage available for those who don’t eat pork other than that I’ll be back I love your restaurant
The beverages, food and service were excellent. We enjoyed Brunch and plan to return.
Hailey was amazing and so knowledgable and friendly! Our first time dining here and we will be back!
Celebrated our 3 year anniversary. Food and service were awesome!
The food was very good! However our server knew very little and kept disappearing
Service very slow. Waitress nice but clueless. Never got our coffee. Nice atmosphere. Food good but nothing special
Service was really slow and unfortunately this is the second visit where that has occurred. Food and ambience were good just too long to wait for food.
The food and drinks were delicious and the service was excellent.
We thoroughly enjoyed our brunch outside this visit! The food was great and so was the service. We’ve had the lovely Madison serve us before, and she is excellent. We would have stayed longer, but a rainstorm blew over and ran us out!
Loved the jazz night and food . Our server was so extremely nice ! He even offered to find a chair for my friend and I to sit our purses on.
We arrived at 5:30 while the restaurant was mainly empty but our server was so infrequent that by 6:45pm we had just gotten our food and needed to get the check and leave immediately to make our show. But more importantly the server argued with me about the menu (I have diet intolerances) insisting that whatever the ingredients listed were the only ingredients in the meal. I challenged her and she got clearly annoyed with me. Sure enough—they drench the corn on their cob salad in a dairy sauce. It was so hard to navigate the menu with diet needs and then to have it messed up, beyond late, lead to a terrible Friday evening meal. It was my first time there.
This place has a great design and vibe. Wine list is best in the Annapolis are.
Lobster roll and oysters were fantastic as was the service. The sangria was great too
Food was great, waitress was great. the app came out after the kids food and then the bread came out after that. otherwise, great
Had a girl's day brunch there with one of my friends, had not been there before so when I walked in I was very pleased with the visual, great spacing given the climate these days and it was quiet so I thought, great we will be able to hear each other talk and we were. My girlfriend and I thought we would come back for dinner at another time with our husbands. The waitress was decent, a little forgetful but we did not hold that against her. Now for the food...it was just ok. The reason you go to a restaurant is for the food, we both stated we probably will not rush at all to come back nor do I feel I would recommend it. We both had omelets and honestly I have had better omelets at iHop, the omelets were virtually cheese less, the potatoes were just ok and the dessert selection was blah. Not sure if the dinner menu is better and I will probably not find out. It was not horrible, but it was not good.
We had brunch there and had the crab cake benedict. I loved the potatoes that came with it and the benedict was great. Also I loved how they put two whole olives and celery in the great Bloody Mary. We had the cheesecake brulee for dessert and it was sooo good!
Appears the restaurant was short staffed as it took some time to get service. A fill in person (because she kept telling us that our waiter would be with us soon) finally arrived to assist. About 20 mins in our waiter arrived - wry friendly but exhausted came to assist. The food was mediocre, as this was much different from our first visit.
Presentation and flavor of the crab bisque was amazing. Two of us ordered steak au poivre. Both came out lukewarm (the garlic butter topping didn't melt), and one of us had a very tough steak. The manager and waiter were very responsive, which was a plus.
