Skiff Deck at the Marriott Newport Rhode Island
The Skiff Bar at the Newport Marriott is currently taking reservations for parties of 1 to 5 within the hours of 12pm-7pm daily on our outdoor deck overlooking Newport Harbor. You must wear a mask or face covering to be seated, and you are required to self-screen for symptoms prior to dining.
Reservations for 1-2 guests will be allotted an hour and a half of seated dining time, and reservations for 3-5 guests will be allotted 2 hours of seated dining time. If you anticipate needing more time dining with us please make a note on the reservation and we will do our best to accommodate.
Ritz cracker, butter whipped mashed potato
Maine potatoes, brussels sprouts, tomato fennel broth
Buttermilk soaked calamari rings, banana peppers, garlic butter
We really enjoyed the Skiff Deck for lunch. Great view of the Harbor, good selection of food and cocktails.
Again, awesome service by Stephanie, great food, great job at helping us all keep social distancing, etc.

Frequent visit NYC on our boat The skiff is a convenient walk great view and great staff. Also visit in the winter often like all about it!
One if my favorite places for shared apps or having a meal. I was pleasantly surprised with how good our experience was considering they just reopened and have to follow so many new rules. Service, food and atmosphere were all fantastic!
Stephanie did a great serving us, the food is great, the atmosphere is great. They did a wonderful job keeping social distancing, etc. Loved every minute of it!

It was only their second night open for outdoor seating and they were terrific. Tables were spaced apart appropriately, server was wearing her mask and everything was clean and sanitized. The menu had apps, sandwiches, plates and desserts and the drinks were delish.
It was my husband’s birthday on Sunday. Anna and Joyce were fabulous. Great service! Buffet was delicious. We’ll be back in a few months.
The restaurant was so short staffed that after 15 minutes without a host, and 25 minutes without a waiter, we left for another restaurant.

We had spa services at the hotel and when finished we arrived about 15 minutes early for our 11:30 lunch reservation. We approached the gentleman at the host stand and advised him we were a bit early for our reservation and that we just came from their spa. He indicated lunch didn't start until 11:30 and said we could return then but it might be a little later until the kitchen was ready to do lunch (?) So, we found seats in the lobby and looked at a newspaper. We could see there were plenty of empty tables in the restaurant and thought he could have offered to seat us and have a coffee while we waited until the "official" lunch time. When we came back at 11:30 he seemed somewhat unorganized about switching to lunch menus and getting a table for us. (No one else showed up for lunch) Another staff member helped to set us up and all was fine, but it wasn't a wonderful first impression.
Food was great as well as our waitress. There was a very large group taking up serveral tables having breakfast and they were quite loud. After finishing their meal they gathered in the open area outside the restaurant and continued to be quite noisy. It was almost impossible to hold a conversation at our table because of their loudness.

The waiter was fine, but the restaurant was under-staffed. There seemed to be much confusion on how to handle reservations and tables.

Good food and service, swordfish excellent but not a large portion. The other dish we ordered scallops, was a huge portion and also good with great mashed potatoes. Even though the potatoes were excellent would have preferred a vegetable. Along with the great rolls and breadcrumbs on scallops, too many carbs!

Extremely slow service. One fish dish was cold with fish scales that were not removed.

The food selection, preparation, and service were very good. Before arriving for our reservation, I had made a revision through Open Table but never received a confirmation so I called the Marriott who also never returned my phone call. Once we arrived the dining room did not have my requested change. They seated us but gave us a long story about being full of reservations for dinner that evening yet there were more than ample tables available.

Ordered salads and scallops and those were perfect. Also a huge burger that was cooked perfectly. Table service was a little slow but our waiter was so polite and accommodating. I specified where I wanted to sit through the app and my table was waiting. Great views of the harbor.

The wait staff was pleasant... that’s basically all that was good. Food was just okay (I’ve certainly had better for their prices). Service was incredibly slow and while I enjoy a night out and was not in a rush, the wait was not well balanced with the value of price nor tastiness of the food. It wasn’t even that crowded. The ambiance was just average.
For the amount charged, I would expect better food and timeliness of service. cutlery wasn’t even provided properly (butter knife for steak?).
Unfortunately I would suggest you find another place to enjoy a meal.
Only issue was the Newport Beach police officer who abruptly walked over and slammed his fist onto our windshield 12 times hard scaring our daughter that daddy was going to jail because the officer wanted to make a scene. He wasn’t even directing traffic and was done helping the car back out of the marina. Then he told me to shut my mouth and he didn’t have to give us directions and that his pounding the windshield wouldn’t break it and he punched it again 10 more times making our daughter cry. Not a good example of being a police officer. More like an over zealous bully in uniform. His temper will hurt someone and he will kill them. We won’t travel back for this kind of abuse.
Arrived for Thanksgiving lunch. Valet service was only available for hotel guests. Service was friendly but not aware of diner needs. A coat rack was available outside the restaurant in the hallway-self service. Our table was wobbling but nothing offered to fix it. (Wait staff asking for what we want while we were barely seated, shared wine list took time. We felt rushed and then when we wanted dessert, we had to call another waitress).
The choice of wine was the poorest I’ve seen, only CA by glass and would not offer corking fee. The appetizer (soup) was room temperature. The traditional Thanksgiving entree was basic cafeteria food: lumps of mashed potato, mushy stuffing which sat in broth more than gravy. The turkey was bits and pieces assembled in a pile and had no flavor. The beans were waterlogged but the mini squash were blanched well. The cranberry sauce was tasty. I stopped tasting when I found a black hair in my plate -disgusting. I lost my appetite.
My husband wanted to take a doggie bag so they brought a container to the table instead of doing that in the kitchen. We took the dessert to go but it was not appetizing (apple tart drenched in caramel sauce, the kind used on ice cream sundaes.)
The decor is absolutely stunning, a marriage of sea and land with notes of wood and natural fiber colors. We had a small table near the window. The restaurant was less than half full.
I felt a bit harassed when confirming reservations. It’s ok to call and confirm but to say our reservations will be cancelled if we don’t call back is a bit much. Then when we call, an answering machine. Even after leaving a message I got another text asking to confirm. Overkill.
I would not go back again. If this is how they do Thanksgiving I couldn’t imagine the quality at other times of the year. Very disappointing!

The comfort, convenience, and scenery is above average. Food was okay. We ate there for dinner and for breakfast. I found the breakfast buffet to be so so. The items were not hot. The service was great!

Excellent brunch buffet. It has an array of breakfast: bagels, muffins, croissants and toast. Fresh fruits and yogurt. Eggs. Potatoes. Bacon and sausage. Delicious whipped cream.
Waffles and omelettes made to order!

Nice atmosphere, good service. Food was average.
We live in Newport and come here a couple of times a year and this was the least enjoyable visit. We reserved a table about a week before but were seated the worst table they have despite arriving a little after five with most tables empty. The steak was good but the whole meal was served over the mashed potatoes making it impossible to have a fork of meat, mushroom or string bean without it being coated in potatoes. The server was excellent though.
Very good food, we had a Harvest Salad and a Soft Shell Crab sandwich. The service and ambience was excellent and a wonderful view of the harbor.

For ex apps were cold, sent back to kitchen and entrees came out before apps returned. Quality of food not good or fresh.
View was nice. Dinner entrees were good but not great. Dessert was tasteless and seemed as if it was just thawed. Will not rush back.

Dinner was so-so. The New York strip had no flavor. My fiancé’s lobster ravioli was good but wouldn’t order the steak next time
Wonderful! That was our entire experience at Mainsail! Three of us had the lobster...the fourth had a steak. All were delicious! Service was very good. We highly recommend!

Service needs serious improvement. Wait staff acted as if taking your order was an inconvenience.
Food was bland.
One dish, the special, was excellent, the other two were over cooked and under flavored. Fries were not crisp. View was beautiful. Service was okay, very kind, but never brought drink refills and never offers more drinks. The table next to us received at least double the service we did. This was suppose to be our anniversary dinner so we were left very disappointed. We were left highly disappointed given the location and previous dining experiences in the past years that were much better.
In our opinion, the quality of the food did not match the price. The lobby of the Marriott is very nice, but the Mainsail dining room was un-inspired.
We had a couple of great steaks, tender filets wrapped in bacon with potatoes and the best asparagus ever. Our server was very nice and very attentive. Our table had a partially obstructed view of Newport harbor. We will be back.

Our dining experience at the Mail Sail is always very good. Very good menu selections, service and great view of Newport Harbor.
The two entrees we got at dinner had very little flavor. I substituted potato and broccoli for faro and beans and the potato/broccoli were literally boiled w absolutely NO seasoning (not even salt and pepper)
The “molton” chocolate cake desert was cold (room temp on outside, cold in middle).
The prices were not cheap so it was a disappointment.
Breakfast buffet is totally fine.
Would not return.
Oysters were fresh and delicious. Calamaris were good. All else did not live up to any moderate standards in terms of food quality - especially considering the menu pricing. Service was pleasant and staff were nice. Kitchen needs work.
