In February 2022, the renowned British-Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare CBE RA, and project architect India Mahdavi transformed the Gallery with a new installation of artworks and interiors. Shonibare’s artist-conceived vision presented a new sunshine-yellow setting designed by Mahdavi, marking a new culture-defining chapter for sketch in its 20th year. Using applique and embroidery techniques on richly dyed fabrics, Shonibare illuminates the influence of African traditions on European conceptions of our modern-day world.

“A sketch afternoon tea it was, Seasons on, the French chefs at 9 Conduit St have continued to tweak, twist and adapt traditional recipes... An afternoon tea re-imagined... Now a sketch tradition...” Prepared and served fresh daily, the menu faithfully follows the traditional combination of sweet and savoury—too many sweets for the French ... not enough sweets for the British. The heart of Afternoon Tea does not change. Specialities such as smoked salmon, éclairs and the Battenberg cake are sacred and will always feature. The patisserie remains the same, but the fruits change to reflect the seasons. Add French marshmallows and an Opera and marry them with a choice of rich Oolong tea to create a more complex blend, making the perfect setting for an afternoon at sketch.

The restaurant space is wonderful and inviting. The artwork is fantastic. The service is very very attentive and the food was excellent. I let the staff pick my appetizer (scallops carpaccio) and the lamb dish. Both excellent. The sommelier picked my wine paring for the lamb. Enjoyed the experience. Make sure you visit the wash room. I leave that part a mystery.

[UPDATE] Sketch management did promptly reach out to help correct the situation. I've since updated my rating to reflect that. One mixup does not define a business, and I greatly appreciate Sketch for how they've handled it since. --- Disappointing Experience at Sketch – £135 No-Show Charge for a Table We Were Never Offered We were very excited to visit Sketch on July 2, having reserved a table for 3 at 19:30 for what we thought would be a memorable dinner experience. Unfortunately, what followed was a confusing and frustrating series of missteps by the staff, ultimately ending in an unfair £135 no-show charge that we’re still disputing. Upon arrival, the host team appeared confused about our reservation and had difficulty locating it. After some delay, we were told a different host would seat us—and were taken to a 3-person table in the bar room. At no point were we told this wasn’t the table connected to our dinner reservation, nor were we offered another option. We ordered drinks and remained there for nearly 50 minutes before a manager approached and asked whether we planned to continue drinking in the bar room or move to the dining room for dinner. It was only then that he explained our reservation was specifically for dinner and that, unless we moved and ordered food, we’d be charged a no-show fee of £45 per person. By that point, it was already too late—we had evening commitments and couldn’t start a full dinner service. We paid our £71 bar tab and left, only to later discover the full £135 “no-show” penalty had been charged anyway. To be clear, we absolutely would have honored the dinner reservation had we been given that opportunity at 19:30. But instead, we were misdirected, seated incorrectly, and never told otherwise until it was too late to fix. As first-time customers, we had no idea we weren’t in the right part of the venue—and Sketch made no effort to clarify until nearly an hour had passed.

We had an amazing experience Fri start to finish. Every wait staff was lovely and attentive! We had the 3 course meal and kicked our plates!

Sketch was an amazing experience!! The atmosphere was just amazing!! All of the servers dressed up and they were so nice!! It is pricey so people should prepare for that but it’s incredibly amazing!! Don’t forget to check out the bathrooms!

So fun for dinner! Totally different than their tea which is also great. They have two different bars to grab a cocktail first if you like. One has cool moody vibes and the other is more like a club-they often have a DJ. The food was really the star though. We ordered beef for two. It was amazing and came with delicious side dishes. Lovely evening. 💕

We have a wonderful experience in this restaurant for a family gathering. The atmosphere was good and all the decorations were amazing. We took beautiful pictures, even at the restrooms.
