The restaurant was shuttered when we got there with our guests. We did not receive a message from either the restaurant or Open Table that the restaurant had gone out of business the day before. This was a special event and we had selected Simi over many other choices. We were left standing on the road with our two guests at 8:30pm on a Saturday night. We are equally disappointed with Open Table for not informing us that the restaurant had closed.

Second time here. One of the newer restaurants downtown. Nice decor and ambiance, which I’m willing to pay for. However the food alone is overpriced enough for relatively small portions and mediocre presentation that I have to call it out. Chicken souvlaki (just one big skewer) was no better than some Street gyro carts, but like $45 pretty aggressive. $17 for a beets salad for like 10 pieces and a small bit of humus in the center. $27 for an average Greek salad. $17 cocktails. The branzino portion is on the small side too though great flavor so I’ll give it a pass. Also tried the lamb rack last time (3 pieces), also not worth like $55 or $60. Bread service just 2 slices of bread drenched in olive oil.

Food wasn’t bad but also wasn’t great. Ribeye was overcooked and tough. The waiter offered a free dessert to make up for it but even our other dishes were just ok. The prices were like fine dining but the quality of food doesn’t meet that. I should have listened to the recent reviews and made reservations elsewhere. Even during a busy time like SXSW the restaurant wasn’t busy. Given the sparsely occupied dining room, I understand why now.

Overall poor experience here. Food and drinks were way overpriced. Id understand if the food was “fine dining” quality, but the food there is mediocre at best. Ordered the octopus, dip, and lamb chops. Octopus was highly recommended from the waiter, at best was just ok. Lamb chops were undercooked and we sent back to kitchen. Didnt even ask for another order or for it to be cooked longer, ended up going somewhere else to eat. Was that bad. I wouldnt waste my money here, never again.

I would recommend this place for young couples who want to splurge on a nice dinner and drinks, not for families with children or older couples. In addition, the DJ makes a fun atmosphere. If you don’t have a good experience here, you didn’t do enough research to set your expectations correctly. Will come back and ask for Shiloh as a server!

In town for the weekend and found this gem of a place. Such a great ambiance for start to a fun night! DJ and music were awesome, def not a steak place more of a seafood place. What it lacked in food it made up for in service and fun.

Food was very good, but very limited. We were disappointed that the current menu is not the same one that is listed online on their website. The wine list is also very short. Music was extremely loud in the restaurant which made it hard to hear conversation. Not sure we would choose to dine here again.

The menu was quite limited. The wine menu was almost nonexistent. The food was ok, but very expensive for the quality. Our waitperson was nice and good, but overall it was a big waste of a 70th birthday dinner. Will not try it again.

Was great at entry, greeted by manager and hostess but decided by choice to sit at the bar and we were given dirty drink menus. Not asked if we wanted water. When we said we’d be eating we got a dirty placemat with food still on it. The plates and silverware were handed over the bar vs brought around and placed for us. We bought a bottle of wine and after first pour we poured all our own refills. Just felt like we had to do half the work. We still tipped 20% but there for sure could be some leveling up of the service for the prices we were paying. Not sure if getting a table is better for service but we expected more and we’re pretty laid back. Albeit my girlfriend is a germaphobe so everything being dirty is sensitive for her

Visited Austin for the first time and dined at Simi. Great service, interesting menu options and drinks and lovely atmosphere. It was very loud so conversation was a bit challenging - that’s the only thing that wasn’t lovely. Would definitely recommend going - make a reservation well in advance.

After a first visit a few months ago I was ready to go back and sample more of their menu, as the overall food and dining experience was quite favorable. Sadly, our expectations were not met in the least. Lovely decor and seating, but even up against the back wall our table was simply too noisy and I could not hear the person right across from me. This only got worse as the restaurant got busier. I actually had a sore throat from trying to talk over the noise. And no, I don't have a hearing problem. Appetizers including kebabs and octopus were artfully prepared, yet somehow both bland and over seasoned at the same time. The mains were incredibly disappointing however. Branzino was unevenly cooked and under seasoned, and not entirely deboned. Lamb chops were dry and bland and the Greek fries were mushy. Seafood yiouvetsi was overpowered with salt and fennel, and the lobster was still in the shell making the diner have to dig it out and try not to get sauce everywhere. On top of that, the kitchen forgot the salmon dish and side potatoes, so they were rushed out after everyone else had to start eating, so the salmon was hurriedly overcooked and the potatoes were cold. Our server said some perfunctory apologies, but was more intently focused on selling more wine. He forgot to bring pens to sign for the separate tabs, and then failed to inform us that our take home bag was at the hostess station. This led to us sitting longer than expected, so that the hostess had to basically evict us, and "apologize" for the mix up. Also of note are the incredibly high prices even compared to other fine dining places in town. No one minds as long as the food and service are at least good. Neither happened here, so the value element is very low. I would not recommend this place for anything other than the astonishment of having such bad food at such high prices, as long as one can afford it.

We had one of the strangest experiences I have had at a restaurant at Simi Osteria. The food was excellent but we were not able to purchase any bottles of wine for dinner. They were only serving wine by the glass which was inconvenient and expensive. The noise level was also very loud because a DJ was playing music but overall a fun atmosphere and beautiful space. We were not aware there was a corking fee as that was never mentioned on the website but that would’ve been good to know in advance as well. Once again the food was excellent but a lot of things for them to work on for it to become a top-tier restaurant in Austin

This place has an amazing vibe and we were so looking forward to a great meal - octopus and lamb specifically - as we had reviewed the menu before making our reservation. The maitre d was the best part of our visit. We ordered the lamb and had varying degrees of doneness requested. Neither was delivered as requested. Our first order of lamb chops arrived very well done. Too well done for our liking. The octopus was also overdone. My husband sent his lamb back as he just couldn’t make his way through it. He had requested it to be medium rare. The second entrée was delivered almost raw. My suggestion to the management is that this place will be a complete gem if the grill cook could nail it. The table next to us also sent back two steaks that were not done to their liking.

This was my second time to eat at Simi. The food is really delicious - not like any Greek restaurant I've ever been to. The scallops were delicious, the salmon kabob fabulous (you can make 2 meals from it) and the drinks so, so good. We'll definitely be back!

This was THE best meal we have had in a long time and that is saying a lot since we are surrounded by fabulous restaurants in Austin. This is unique though. Extremely high quality meats and creative preparations. The crab cake was the best on the planet. Our service was pretty impeccable. Wished they had not been out of a couple things and oddly there was no wine by the bottle? But otherwise exceptional!

Service and food were good, however we were told as we were being seated that 2 hours have been reserved for our dining experience. We had an 8:00 reservation, arrived at 7:50 and at 9:20 our waiter said “ it’s coming up on your 2 hour limit for your reservation, if you would like to finish your drinks you may go to the lobby area”. After spending over $200 on a meal this is completely unacceptable and we will not be back, never have I been asked to leave a table after dining.

Disappointed with the service here. Didn't offer a full wine list (bottles) until we asked after we already ordered two glasses of wine. Didn't offer dessert menu. Finally got the chocolate cake with strawberries. But the cake didn't have strawberries. Our server even didn't check the dish before serving it. The server finally brought a bowl of strawberries. can't understand the whole service here.
