Sichuan Folk in London's East End has just about the coolest location of any Chinese restaurant in London: right on Hanbury Street, the main route between Spitalfields markets and Brick Lane. Its location alone would be enough to make it popular with students and locals needing a quick, economical nosh, but Sichuan-Folk is the real deal: a reasonably authentic Chinese restaurant with a focus on Sichuan cuisine and with a few intriguing dishes to tempt the punter. Try the Sichuan-folk special-flavoured chicken or peng-peng crab or jump right in to the frog legs with pickled ginger. There are vegetarian options and children are welcome. The dining room is cosy with Eastern-motif-painted walls, dark wooden tables and seating and trad tassled silk lamps. Sichuan-Folk is still a great choice for quick meals, but the food and the warm welcome lift the restaurant into something more.

Excellent food - everything ordered was delicious. Many dishes obviously with a kick. Great vegetarian dumplings in the starters - very tasty sauce with them. Excellent squid. Cumin lamb was a new find, very tasty but a bit dry so some sauce would be nice. Friendly and attentive service.

Good authentic good. Ambience is not so good. They offer hot pot in the restaurant, so the air was a bit stuffy

If you like Sichuan food, this place is must try. I loved the food and the service was fantastic. I will definitely head back there the first chance I get. I had the kung pao chicken, prawns, frog legs and egg fried rice.

Don’t expect your opentable booking to have been acknowledged by the restaurant or for you to even have a booking at all. Best call them. Luckily the restaurant was quiet. Food is great although I think a little heavy on the MSG...

A small group of us went for Hotpot. It was nice, though not as much ingredients as other places. Sauces was located in a tiny corner on a shelf so l had to reach up for it. Not much choice. Service was average and service charge was added to the bill. All they had to do was bring out food, we did our own cooking. We were informed at the time of booking that it was ‘cash’ only however saw other customers pay by credit card.

Definitely recommend this restaurant for the excellent food. Disappointed that they only accept cash for bookings made via OpenTable. This wasn't made clear the the time of booking.

Food is extremely impressive and delicious. This is probably the best Chinese restaurant I’ve ever been to outside of China. The King Pao Prawns are especially good.

Remains a favourite with my Chinese friends and always a go-to place, but I feel the food quality has recently dropped. The pesky and disgruntled service is a given for the place, but sometimes a little bit less curtness would go a long way. Not what it used to be.
