Shula's Steak House - Gainesville
We had a great leisurely dinner with family for my birthday. We had five people and we had everything from appetizers to dessert. We spent over three hours and the service was impeccable. Will definitely be back next time in Gainesville
Arrived for our Anniversary dinner as we had been to Shula's in Naples on several other Anniversary celebrations.
This visit to Gainesville was out first, like a the look of restaurant and we were the only guest for the first half hour, server attentive. Ordered shrimp cocktail and caesar salad for appetizer, both very good. For entree we ordered 6 oz. Filet and 12oz. NY Strip, Filet came out well done not the mid- well requested, thought could eat however very tough. Manager asked if she could recook and would expedite another. Agreeed to have it redone, after some time the replacement arrived and to our disappointment was now mid-rare. Again manager arrived to let us know she would return the steak for more cooking, at this point we asked for the steak to be boxed after cooking it properly. Server took our dessert order, which was Key Lime Pie and Chocolate Cake, both were delicious.
Manager returned again to apologize for our experience, server brought the check which only reflected a portion of our total bill. Manager also returned with gift card for next visit. Overall other than the steak not being done right twice, how does that happen in a Steak House? Kind of ruins the experience that you look forward to all year when planning your special day.
My wife and I were disappointed with the food. I wanted to order a 6 oz. Filet and this is at 5:45 p.m. when Shula's opened and you were out of the filet that seemed not right. My wife's scallops were a little to salty.
This was our second time dining at Shula’s - Gainesville. We returned to celebrate a special occasion because our first experience there was outstanding. This second visit was a bit disappointing. Not sure if they had a new chef, but our filet mignon steaks both came out barely lukewarm and the accompanying bernaise sauce was congealed — not even near warm. We’ve never sent back food to a kitchen in all of our years but, given the prices, we did send our steaks back. The order was refired and we received new steaks; they were a little warmer, but still not hot. (We’ve had hot, sizzling steaks at Ruth Chris and at our first Shula’s experience—this was no comparison.) All this being said, everything else was delicious—potatoes au gratin and roasted kale sides were excellent; the wedge salad with bacon jam and blue cheese was a perfect starter, and we shared the dark chocolate layer cake. Our server was terrific — attentive, but never rushed us. The restaurant was a little noisy because there was a rambunctious private party in an adjoining area, but the overall atmosphere was elegant and relaxed. We would probably try Shula’s again, but might try a weekend night rather than a weeknight to see if the steak preparation is better. I recommend the restaurant for the excellent service and overall food quality—just be aware that the steak preparation may vary depending upon the chef. When this place is good, it’s REALLY good!
Wonderful bday experience
The steaks were excellent. I was “steaked out” from several recent meals and tried the scallops. They were so over seasoned they were inedible. The waitress didn’t seem to care and since I was with my son’s friends did not want to complain.
An excellent meal — well prepared — recommend the filet trio — a wonderful evening out for my daughter’s 21st birthday. The wait staff was very attentive.
1-I ordered a cocktail which came with small ice cubes. Why can't you have X-large cubes
for drinks? I ordered on the rocks, and most of the ice melted before I finished.
2-The martini my friend ordered was carefully delivered because it came to top of glass. Why not bring it to the table with shaker and pour into glass at table? We were the first patrons for the evening, and the excuse that they didn't have enough shakers is not acceptable. I feel that for the price we paid for dinner these would be standard for service.
The steaks were good, and came as ordered. The wedge salad was scrumptious and I would order again.
The waitperson was attentive and knowledgeable.
Came here for a late Valentine’s Day date and had the most wonderful time. The ambience was wonderful and the server made sure to make you feel special. All girls received a rose which made the experience very memorable!
My wife and I visited Shula's on Valentine's Day. The staff were very nice and the food was delicious. I would recommend this restaurant for special occasions.
Our server Sydney was exceptional! The steaks were great. Wife got the lobster tail as an add on and the over season AED it with Paprika. Sides and desert was great as well.

The food is good and well prepared but A notch below Fleming’s or a Ruth Chris . Not a bad place to eat if you’re staying at this hotel . Service is ok. While they put forth an effort to do a good job , there seems to be a lack of organization and coordination among the staff . I blame management on this . The service was attentive but slow and they forgot a couple of items that I ordered .
If they get their act together I think they can earn 3 stars.

There was foul stench like dirty mop, food was no better than a Longhorns steak house. Overpriced food quite subpar been to Shula’s in Tampa no comparison.

Ate there last year and had a not so pleasant experience. Food cooked off site was cold when served and it took them over an hour from ordering to meal presented. Would not go back there. I hate to write a negative review but while the bread was warm and good the overall experience was not pleasant.
Very Slow Service, We had to ask for everything at least twice. Asked for the steak to be cooked medium well and it was way overcooked. This restaurant was good when they first opened but won’t go back again. Way too expensive for the experience we had.

I made reservations about 2 months in advance. Reservation was for 10:15 and were settled close to 10:30 even though we got there at 9:50 and were told it would not be that long. At 10:00 they said that they were setting up the tables and we still did not get seated until 10:30 even though there was barely no one at the restaurant. I know it was a large party however it took a while! Food was very good!!!
Was very disappointed with this Shula’s we have been to several and wanted to celebrate a very special graduation in Gainesville FL it was horrible food was slow to come out and the restaurant was not busy and the food was cold
This is the third time I have dined at Shula's. While the food, particularly the steaks, is excellent, the service is lacking. We booked a table for 6:15, but arrived at 5:55. They promptly seated us and our order was taken. We had play tickets at 8, but thought we had plenty of time since the theater is nearby. We did order drinks, but not appetizers or salads. Unfortunately, out food did not come out until 7:25. While those around us who ordered shortly before us were finishing their dinner and paying the check, we were still sitting there waiting. Only when I told the waitress that we needed to leave soon, did our food arrive. While delicious, it was not that enjoyable since we had to wolf it down to leave in time for our play. I know this is not a fast food restaurant, but I think an hour and 45 mins should be a sufficient amount of time to be served just a cocktail and dinner without feeling hurried. The last time we dined, my husband ordered crab cakes and they came out cold in the center. They brought out a new entree and those also were cold inside, but burnt outside. I'm not sure that we will visit Shula's again.

I had higher expectations for Shula’s, having been to the one in Orlando and having a great experience there. The Gainesville location was poor all around. The wait staff was disorganized and it took 25 minutes to get our drinks. The food was cold and our waiter disappeared for most of our dinner. However the lady who pours the water lurked around our table so much it was disturbing. I would highly recommend the Orlando Shula’s location, but don’t waste your time or money going to the Gainesville location.
The restaurant is fabulous, however their bar service is from the hotel. We had to send back 3 “dirty” martinis because the bartender kept putting sweet vermouth in them. They need top notch mixology if they are goi g to charge those prices
Friend had scallops and I had salmon. Both were delicious. Sourdough bread was warm and tasty. Service was delightful and appropriately responsive. Meals were pricey.
I was a little nervous going here because there were so many negative comments about service. My server was excellent. She was very attentive and knowledgeable. The food was outstanding. You're going to love it!
Very expensive average quality food. Staff was pleasant but not knowledgeable about the food or wine offerings. Ambiance was nice but nothing special. Red Onion experience at Ritz-Carlton prices.
Everything was wonderful but my steak and my husband’s were overcooked and my daughter’s undercooked.
Very nice dining experience for my college student kids and I on November 8th, a game weekend. Although service was a bit spotty ...... brought us French onion soup without a spoon, which is not included with the table setting, so after five minutes we had to request a spoon. We ordered the Trio Filet entree, medium cooked, the one with peppercorn came out raw, not even rare. Two out of three of the trio were prepared properly as ordered.

Shula's is a tricky review. We've been there several times but not in the past year. This was a birthday celebration and one of the only high-end venues open on Sunday evening. The food is fabulous. I have a problem with the decor. Hate the high-backed chairs and sliding into a banquette is never fun. The service is good, as it should be. But look out for those prices! $10-$15 for sides? When you pay top price for the beef I think it should include the sides. When you think of this as a "celebration" venue, look around before deciding.
Wife steak was not cooked properly and steak Oscar was very poor quality
The wine by the glass is way too expensive. The food and service are great.
We had a late (8:45pm) reservation for 4 after the Universtiy of Florida vs. Towson State football game. Service was great and all of the meals were good, except mine. I ordered a 14oz. Rib Eye cooked medium rare. The server asked us to cut into the middle to check to make sure it was cooked to order - mine was. I took the 1st cut and bite of the steak off one end and got mostly grissel. I took two more bites and they were OK - tough but OK- then I took my 4th & 5th bites and again got mostly grissel. I'm thinking I paid $44 for this steak there has to be some good bites and there were 2-3 good bites then another bite of grissel!! After eating the tough steak - didn't want to delay our dinner - I pointed out to our server how dissappointed I was in the Schula steak I ordered and I didn't think for $44 dollars I should have gotten a steak that was tough and had way too much grissel in it and was poor quality. (I left the 4-5 portions of grissel on the plate for the chef & manager to see!) Our server took the salad (we split one salad 4 ways) off of our bill and said she would report my "grisselly steak" to her management. I left Schula's with my family very disappointed of the quality of steak I was served for $44 and thought the compensation from Schula's was inconsistent with the poor quality of Rib Eye steak I was served. Shula's is pricey, but we have always enjoyed our meals there. Our server was new, but really great.
I had never eaten at a Shula’s and my wife and I looked forward to the experience. Basically, the steaks were very unremarkable (and served on a room temperature plate) and the service was very inattentive and slow. Vastly overpriced for the experience received.
Lovely atmosphere. The crab cakes have changed. They were not as good as in the few months.
