The food was amazing!! The waiter we had was extremely nice and welcoming. The environment was calm and intimate.
Appreciated that they were COVID cautious—wait staff wore face coverings, tables were socially distanced, cleanliness was evident. Food was tasty. Sergio, our server, was attentive and had a good sense of humor. The dining was especially delightful because of his consideration and congeniality.
Lovely meal, the only downside was very bright lighting and a somewhat sterile looking interior. I prefer soft light and warmth for a Valentine’s dinner.
We had amazing service! Our waiters were attentive, and did an outstanding job! There were 10 of us and we’re not exactly a quiet bunch, and they never made us feel unwelcome! The ambiance I gave 3 stars since there was no music playing overhead, and made it a little awkward.. the problem was quickly solved since we played piano music on one of our devices!
Fantastic food! Pricey but worth it. Odd dining room set-up, but I suggest getting a booth or one of the tables with the super high chair-backs. Overall great experience and will eat there again for special ocassions.
I have eaten at Shula's in South Florida years ago but have not tried the one in Gainesville. I decided to take my wife to St. Valentine's Day dinner to Shula's and was well pleased. I loved everything about the experience. The food was excellent and the service was equally as wonderful and attentive. I will definitely be going here often and not just for special occasions.
Fantastic flavor. Our friends commented they enjoyed their steaks more than similar steaks from Ruth's Chris
Not impressed when restaurant was to open no one was around to until someone from the front desk of hotel went to find them. There was 5 groups waiting to be seated for at 15 minutes. Then server took a good 10 minutes before she showed up and never said anything about valentine specials or asked if we have ever been to a shula’s like I heard others being asked. No taste steak if we did not have peppercorns there would have been NO FLAVOR Very disappointed . Save your money and go to Longhorn where steaks TASTE better.
The food was excellent! It was our first time at Shula’s and everything we ordered was delicious. The service was good but a bit slow a few times. Didn’t really matter because our drinks were strong and we had a great time. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for great food and a reasonable price.
Delicious Food. One of the most tender meats I have had in a very long time. We arrived earlier than our reservation and they accommodated us right away. We ordered whipped potatoes, filet mignon, potato au gratin and asparagus. Every single dish was perfectly seasoned. The staff was very attentive. I'm so glad they reopened their doors because last time I went to Gainesville they were closed due to the pandemic. I was very pleased
Absolutely not the server’s fault, who was great, but chose this restaurant as it had a good menu online for my daughter who is a vegetarian (salads and sides) only to find out when we got there, that the actual menu due to COVID was very limited, without any of these items.
Understand of course COVID changes, but this should be noted on line so people don’t come looking for other items that are advertised on line. When we asked the sever about this, he noted that it has been an issue for five months and that “corporate” won’t help. I feel bad for the servers as they have to deal with “corporate’s” incompetence.
My wife and I both chose to try their filet mignon. Both of them were cooked to the appropriate doneness however the seasoning on the steaks was nonexistent. No delicious crust that you come to expect on a $50 steak. The creamed spinach was delicious but the pureed potatoes also lacked any seasoning. It's as if the chefs simply ran out of salt and pepper. Our waitress was great and had no issues with the service. We will not be returning knowing Embers is right around the corner.
Ashley was our server and she did an amazing job. Perfect coursed out our meals so we can enjoy the time of our family and not rushed to turn a table. Will definitely return when back visiting our Gator.
It felt like we were sitting in the lobby of the hotel, they had one waiter and took forever to get served. Our steaks were not cooked right and not even close to what outback can do. We will never go back. They did comp 2 drinks.
We walked out. Don't be fooled. The online menu is not the actual menu. We made a decision to eat there based on the online selection of food items. We only had one night in Gainesville and it was ruined by making reservations at Shula's. The waiter said several customers complained in the past about the same thing. This means that they knew about the problem and chose to do nothing about it. We were going to wait it out and just deal with it but when we sat for a half an hour and still did not have a drink, we chose to walk out. There is no way that this restaurant deserved to be paid for false advertisement and horrible service. I don't imagine that they will be in business much longer.
We were the first table in the restaurant at 7:15. Half of the items we wanted that were shown online WERE NOT ON THE MENU. The staff made up some reason that essentially boiled down to someone not doing their job with the online menu.
When I finished my first drink the server quickly grabbed my glass without asking if I wanted another and didn't return for about 17-23 minutes.
I had the 14oz rib eye. Horrible. I can grill a better steak from a roadkill possum, not lying. It was terrible.
My date got the petite fillet, it was surprisingly good.
For sides we had the mushrooms and mashed potatoes. The mushrooms looked and tasted as if they stopped by Publix and got a "gourmet blend" and microwaved it with a pack of powder brown gravy that got completely soaked up by the mushrooms. It was weird.
Mashed potatoes are mashed potatoes.
I switched our res from Mark's prime to Shulas simply because I've never been and wanted to check it out.
Please, Don't make my mistake.
Great and awesome service. Awesome New Years Eve dinner celebration with my love.
Food was awesome as expected, but service was superb, beyond expectations. Thank you for such a great evening
Steak had a raw a cool center. Spinach dish cold. Wine was requested chilled but not
Overall better than I expected! Good for any occasion.
very limited menu, very good service. he was trying hard to make a hotel restaurant better than it really was.
absolutely no football memorabilia from shula other than super bowl trophy by the hostesses stand. food was good but not outstanding, longhorn could've done just as well.
for the amount, they charge it's not worth it.
Shula's never disappoints! We have enjoyed each evening dining there. Even with Covid times and a delayed re-opening, the team was eager to meet our dining needs, even accommodating us with a space heater in the very cold hotel (normally perfect in hot Florida, but not so much in a seasonal cold front)! We look forward to our next night out at Shula's.
The restaurant had two employees. Our wait person was wonderful but there was nothing on the tables, a very limited menu and in general not worth dining out for no ambience.
They said they were following the Hilton guidelines but I was not a guest of the hotel and could have a better dinner anywhere else.
We chose Shula’s Steakhouse for my husband’s 50th birthday dinner and it didn’t disappoint. Excellent food, service and ambiance. Our server, Tristan, was great as well. We’ll be back!
We ordered quesadillas for kids. They forgot about it. Never came, and thankfully we did not get charged.
Food was sloooow. We were there 1h30 because rhe food kept coming slowly and the restaurant was empty.
At least the meat was great as cooked to order.
Way ocer priced for the quality/service
Celebrated a birthday
despite on line menu, p[resented small menu. out of lamb shanks after 30 minute or so wait a d we were first and on ly customers.
We had a great leisurely dinner with family for my birthday. We had five people and we had everything from appetizers to dessert. We spent over three hours and the service was impeccable. Will definitely be back next time in Gainesville
Arrived for our Anniversary dinner as we had been to Shula's in Naples on several other Anniversary celebrations.
This visit to Gainesville was out first, like a the look of restaurant and we were the only guest for the first half hour, server attentive. Ordered shrimp cocktail and caesar salad for appetizer, both very good. For entree we ordered 6 oz. Filet and 12oz. NY Strip, Filet came out well done not the mid- well requested, thought could eat however very tough. Manager asked if she could recook and would expedite another. Agreeed to have it redone, after some time the replacement arrived and to our disappointment was now mid-rare. Again manager arrived to let us know she would return the steak for more cooking, at this point we asked for the steak to be boxed after cooking it properly. Server took our dessert order, which was Key Lime Pie and Chocolate Cake, both were delicious.
Manager returned again to apologize for our experience, server brought the check which only reflected a portion of our total bill. Manager also returned with gift card for next visit. Overall other than the steak not being done right twice, how does that happen in a Steak House? Kind of ruins the experience that you look forward to all year when planning your special day.
My wife and I were disappointed with the food. I wanted to order a 6 oz. Filet and this is at 5:45 p.m. when Shula's opened and you were out of the filet that seemed not right. My wife's scallops were a little to salty.
This was our second time dining at Shula’s - Gainesville. We returned to celebrate a special occasion because our first experience there was outstanding. This second visit was a bit disappointing. Not sure if they had a new chef, but our filet mignon steaks both came out barely lukewarm and the accompanying bernaise sauce was congealed — not even near warm. We’ve never sent back food to a kitchen in all of our years but, given the prices, we did send our steaks back. The order was refired and we received new steaks; they were a little warmer, but still not hot. (We’ve had hot, sizzling steaks at Ruth Chris and at our first Shula’s experience—this was no comparison.) All this being said, everything else was delicious—potatoes au gratin and roasted kale sides were excellent; the wedge salad with bacon jam and blue cheese was a perfect starter, and we shared the dark chocolate layer cake. Our server was terrific — attentive, but never rushed us. The restaurant was a little noisy because there was a rambunctious private party in an adjoining area, but the overall atmosphere was elegant and relaxed. We would probably try Shula’s again, but might try a weekend night rather than a weeknight to see if the steak preparation is better. I recommend the restaurant for the excellent service and overall food quality—just be aware that the steak preparation may vary depending upon the chef. When this place is good, it’s REALLY good!
Wonderful bday experience
The steaks were excellent. I was “steaked out” from several recent meals and tried the scallops. They were so over seasoned they were inedible. The waitress didn’t seem to care and since I was with my son’s friends did not want to complain.
An excellent meal — well prepared — recommend the filet trio — a wonderful evening out for my daughter’s 21st birthday. The wait staff was very attentive.
1-I ordered a cocktail which came with small ice cubes. Why can't you have X-large cubes
for drinks? I ordered on the rocks, and most of the ice melted before I finished.
2-The martini my friend ordered was carefully delivered because it came to top of glass. Why not bring it to the table with shaker and pour into glass at table? We were the first patrons for the evening, and the excuse that they didn't have enough shakers is not acceptable. I feel that for the price we paid for dinner these would be standard for service.
The steaks were good, and came as ordered. The wedge salad was scrumptious and I would order again.
The waitperson was attentive and knowledgeable.
Came here for a late Valentine’s Day date and had the most wonderful time. The ambience was wonderful and the server made sure to make you feel special. All girls received a rose which made the experience very memorable!
My wife and I visited Shula's on Valentine's Day. The staff were very nice and the food was delicious. I would recommend this restaurant for special occasions.
Our server Sydney was exceptional! The steaks were great. Wife got the lobster tail as an add on and the over season AED it with Paprika. Sides and desert was great as well.
