Turkey sandwich was processed cold cuts. Could have just gone to Subway. Server didn’t ask us if we wanted refills on our drink.
Outdoor restaurant is beautiful and service was excellent. The menu is very limited and could use some additional selections for main courses. The one item I wanted, the chicken, they didn’t have .
Tables were wooden outdoor tables with black mold staining on them. For price of dinner entrees they should have been clean or covered with linens. Food was ok but not exceptional so not worth the price. Servers were not serving properly from the right but seemingly professional but in need of more training.
More than once things were dropped and glassware broken. Bar area was moderately clean but not up to standard for a restaurant with wines by the glass from $12-$20/glass.
Beautiful location, outstanding service and the clam chowder was excellent.
Disappointed that it wasn’t clear when we made Open Table Reservation that they only serve appetizers from 3:00pm to 5:30pm. That just isn’t highlighted anywhere and we would have gone elsewhere or even to a different Guerney’s Newport restaurant. That said, the calamari was excellent although food took way too long to come out.
We stayed the night for the first time at Gurney's. For top hotel pricing ($600 and well over $1000 per night) I was stunned how bad the service and so-so the food was at lunch. We made reservations for 11:30 but was told when we got there we couldn't order until 11:45 but that turned out to be well after 12:15. The mixed drinks were so-so. We were a group of 4. We ordered chicken sandwiches, wedge salad, cobb salad, truffle fries and macaroni and cheese. We got the salads first. The Wedge salad's presentation was nice but it was drowning in dressing, no exaggeration. But when we got the salads, we waited several minutes for napkins and utensils. We finally had to flag someone to ask for them. The other big disappointment was the main course. The fries were actually cool to the touch and the macaroni barely warm. Sandwiches were so-so. No one wanted to wait for them to remake the fries so we ate what we got. I'm sorry to be so negative but it is very frustrating to pay such high prices for things like this. The whole operation was unorganized and the people working were clearly inexperienced in service all around. We ate outside so the views and grounds were beautiful. I would never go out of my way to eat here. It was slow, mediocre, cold and expensive.
The food is VERY GOOD and the service was excellent plus friendly and pleasant
The view is beautiful looking on to the water.
Food was terrible
I havent had such a bad experience in a long time. This was a bday celebration for my husband and it was terrible. We waited 45 min after our appetizer for our main dishes, when the arrived 2/4 were cold so we waited at least 20 more minutes for 1 of the meals to come back, and the other half of my daughters meal came when we had all finished. We would ask staff for water- a serving spoon- a dessert menu to be met w blank stares and they didnt understand what we asked for. We never got a dessert menu. When we first said the food was cold there were no apologies/ let me fix it just annoyed looks. Everything was an effort- our meal took 3’- and not from an enjoyable delay but from lack of service. There was no effort to make it right. We didnt even eat together because of such large gaps with returning food to us. It was just a miserable evening- and the food that came wasnt that spectacular for the price. Its a spectacular atmosphere- but was ruined by staff who were unpleasant and had poor serving skills. There were meals that coat $145- and they just handed the plate to the guest. They didnt serve the meal- and to clear they would ask the people to hand dishes across the table. For those prices staff should be know how to serve from the left and clear from the right. Just every detail was dropped. I cant imagine returning.
Everything is amazing.
Food was great - setting was beautiful!
Sat outside around the fire pits~ after an amazing dinner~ steaks /fish/ calamari / salad / dessert
Cocktails were delicious ~ waitstaff very friendly
Great food, beautiful view. Agree with other reviews that it's a tad bit loud -- turning down the music would help.
Very good salmon and filet mignon. Sat outside with a nice view.
I have been here multiple times and it continues to be one of my favorites. They do an amazing breakfast, and as always the views are amazing. The service was superb. I highly recommend this spot for anyone.
We had a wonderful time! It was a beautiful evening and this was the ideal spot to enjoy the sunset. Our server was professional and charming. The food was delicious. I’ve noted some reviews complaining about prices, but we found that the quality of the food fully supported the expense. This is an upscale location compared to some of the other “dockside” restaurants in Newport. It’s off the beaten track and there’s none of the hustle and bustle of the more touristy places. Our fellow diners were mostly hotel guests, families enjoying the night in front of one of the many fire pits with their well-behaved children, or visitors like us, nicely attired and prepared to pay for a leisurely dockside dinner.
It’s always an amazing time when we come here!
Definitely a great spot to be at out in Newport. Salmon, octopus, and halibut were all delicious. Mac and cheese was good but came out cold, would definitely come back!
staff was great , food excellent and great night ps get some heaters
Reserved inside dining, but we were only given the option of a busy deck on a windy day as there was no inside dining room. Service was very slow with no table bussing after so we sat with a pile of dirty dishes. Food was not good, lobster roll was full of shells, and everything was very overpriced. Disappointing experience.
Food is outstanding but the time it took to get appetizers was long and the.time between appetizers and main course was even longer.
Waitress was great and apologetic, not her fault.
Menu was limited but we found items to order. The hot and cold Caesar salad was unique but excellent. We both enjoyed it. My husband ordered the pasta with veal bolgonese and although he said it tasted good the portion was more like a side dish of pasta with a small splattering of sauce. I had the salmon which came with about 4 tiny potatoes and succotash that was mostly Lima beans. We were celebrating our mutual birthdays and were planning on having dessert but the menu was extremely limited. I’m celiac and must eat gluten free but the only offerings were gelato. Very disappointing. A family member had left their credit card to pay for our meal but the waiter didn’t know anything about it. We asked so we could be sure they weren’t also charged and our waitperson didn’t make an attempt to find out. All in all it was a disappointing experience.
Great food, live DJ, best view of the sunset and the bridge
Service was painfully slow and terrible. Our waitress was friendly and we could tell it wasn’t her fault, but we were waiting for an hour just to get some bread and when it came out it was cold. Food was over cooked and nothing special but it was good
Beautiful setting, imaginative but limited menu. Great service.
Food was fabulous, wedge salad, halibut and filet. The view was beautiful. Our server, Joseph, was awesome.
Staff was kind and quick to resolve a minor issue.
Best outdoor patio fine dining spot in Newport. The string lights, fire tables and music create a vibrant South Beach Miami type of feel. Menu has everything you'd expect from an upscale Newport restaurant and the service is outstanding, even on a busy night.
Food was not up to expectations. Overpriced. Waiter not very attentive. Noise level and music much too loud. Used to got to Scarpetta's and was hoping for the same experience. Far from it!!!
Unexpectedly and happily, we were seated outside. It was a gorgeous Summer evening-poised for sunset. Three of us split two appetizers- the wedge salad and the buratta salad. Our entrees were delicious, rigatoni with meat sauce and two of us shared a Bronzini entree. Aside from a decadent dessert (Mocha Tiramisu) the view snd sunset were the star of the evening. Service was good.
Great food. Great service. Good music. Great vibes.
Online menu for the fire pits did not match actual experience. We were hoping to enjoy a burger and truffle fries at sunset per the website menu, but we're advised only $100+ steaks available. With that said, we ordered other appetizers that were delicious....but would love for them to bring back the burger!
Great time on the patio. Angry lobster was awesome!
Went for dinner. The picture shown in Showfish Newport RI is not the correct pic - believe this is taken from New York Showfish. Very misleading. No boothes as shown in pic. Service is understaffed making wait times from beginning to end painfull. Food not really that great. Outdoor seating showed bird droppings on railings which run along tables. Pricing very high for the low quality served. Advise to be very carefull. We were very disappointed.
The food was good. However, the service was terrible.
Really good atmosphere and food!!!
Unfortunately the service was very poor. Food was fine. The host worked hard to get us a nice table and then it went downhill. Server got the drinks wrong and then messed up our food order. Our main course arrived before we were done with appetizers and we had to clear our own plates. Didn’t see our server at all until 20 minutes after we were done eating at which time he came and asked us if we wanted more drinks. Maybe they are just understaffed but doesn’t make up for amateur mistakes.
Service was horrible, starting with the host. We had a reservation and he was rude and did not accommodate our outdoor reservation made 4 months in advance, despite there being multiple large tables available. Further, when we were rudely thrown at a dirty table inside, our server spilt our drinks on us when putting them down. Our food was cold. Expected MUCH better from Gurneys. Will not be coming here again not recommending to anyone coming to Newport.
