The food was OK, but the portions were very small and very overpriced. Service was friendly, but disinterested. Drinks are served in flimsy plastic cups. It's worth stopping there for a drink on a beautiful day, but they need to rethink their food service.
This place is soo beautiful, and the staff was amazing. Went on a quiet Tuesday, and got to sit right in front, but the establishment was so pretty, I wanted to walk around to enjoy the whole thing. Staff was amazing, available for all our needs and had great recommendations. I will definitely be back!
Love this place. Too bad it is only open in the summer. Chicago needed something like this place
The restaurant canceled the reservation. So my only experience is a horrible one.
The service was terrible. It was overpriced. We left and didn’t order dinner.
Kitchen relies on their deep fryer for many of their offerings. Can't recommend.
Been to Shore Club many times and the service is generally excellent. This time an idiot bullied my son at the entrance because he was 20 years old. I and the rest of our party had already gone in to our table. We had no interest in drinking. Just some lunch. My son called me after he ran down the beach path (he was scared shitless). I inquired at the hostess stand why 20 year olds were being barred from the premises for lunch, and was told that foodservice is no problem for minors (I have been to the Shore Club a number of times when families and young people were present). By that time there was no way my son was returning, so we all left and went to another restaurant. Major egg on my face because I had been telling everyone how great the place is. Oh well, was nice while it lasted.
Great setting for birthday brunch or celebration - right on the water
Please save yourself the headache and avoid this place at all cost. I've never had such a frustrating experience at a restaurant...that I didn't even get to eat at. We made our reservation on OpenTable, then were asked to confirm our reservation by OpenTable the day before, which seems to be something new OT is doing. To top it off, I called 90 min before to ask about parking vs Uber. The host recommended Uber, so we did.
We arrived 15 min early and were "greeted" by an employee with giant holes in his earlobes who said "sorry, we're closed because it's gonna rain." I asked if they ever call people who have reservations and he said "yes, you should have gotten a call"...to which I said "well, you didn't call me, nor did you warn me when I called you guys 90 min ago." Keep in mind, the fact that it was going to rain wasn't news. Everyone knew this.
The employee said, in the most insincere tone, "sorry, they should have called. I'll let my manager know." I swear I had steam coming out of my ears. We had to walk thru Lincoln Park to get to a street where we could get an Uber to head back home. We spent over $90 on Uber rides and didn't even eat.
We are obviously never coming back here. The menu wasn't that interesting but we wanted to go for the view...which would have been fine with the rain. It's a covered restaurant for Christ's sake! I sent a complaint to OT demanding they refund our Uber cost and give us triple points for our trouble. Waiting to hear back.
Lord knows if I were to no show on an OT reservation, I'd hear it from them. I've never done that.
Bottom line...don't ever go to this restaurant.
Always love hitting shore club when at the beach. Lunch and dinner food is great, breakfast is below average. Service has been very spotty when I’ve come the last few times....takes forever and often have to ask for the same things (like silverware) multiple times before finally having to go get it. Servers just generally aren’t in tune. Great spot for early dinner. Lunchtime they could use some more umbrellas as two people can comfortably be shaded while the rest of the party swelters.
So glad this spot opened on the beach! It's the best beach bar in Chicago! Really great food. Kathryn and Amanda made us feel so welcome! Will be back many many times this season!
Mediocre food. Server was sweet but absent. Might want to clean off the spiderwebs above the tables. Great for drinks - not really a place for dinner.
So noisy we could not hear each other. We should have sat outside. The focus was on the bar not the food or food service. I had to go to find the waitress several times to order anything. The food was okay but overpriced for what it was as were the drinks ($15). If you are young and want to have a drink at the beach, this is the place for you. Otherwise, for the high price, go elsewhere. The view is its only asset.
The website depicts the establishment as being a beautiful upscale restaurant and represents the decor as almost spa like.
WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!
Once we arrived we saw it was basically a big white tent with a so so deck TO RESERVE CABANAS ! The interior was clumsy and lower tier. THE SERVICE WAS HORRIBLE! The waitress was surly took terrible care of us and when I asked where our food was ( after 45 minutes) she gave me an eye rolling surly look. I received no explanation such as I’m sorry, the kitchen is backed up, let me check on it, nothing.
Finally I called the hostess over and she comped our bloody mary’s. And we left after waiting an hour for our food.
I should also explain the brunch was nothing but an omelette bar, and the basic menu.
In order to get your omelette , the waitress must give you a coconut shell plate which you take up to the omelette “station” and stand in line. No “honor system “ here. This was a unique experience for me.
I would NEVER recommend this place or return!
Just love this place. Best location! Right on the beach. Service was wonderful and the staff was so friendly and made it easy to plan for a special occasion brunch. A gem
open table should make it known that a restaurant is 21+
HORRIBLE service. Waited over two hours for food and it came out cold! Waitress could not have cared less
We were a little disappointed in the place, it looks a lot better in the photos. Service was average, drinks served in plastic & the food was ok.
Cocktails were expensive for the serving size.
We are lucky enough to have dinned at many beach & water side locations around the world so I think our expectations were a little high.
Save your money & eat on the river.
Only nice place to eat on the beach! Been here maybe 4 times for brunch so now I know the standouts and things to avoid.
Le grand fizz is a bright refreshing cocktail.
Tuna poke has great flavor but they could improve their knife work and cut smaller pieces of tuna- still I always get it. Good portion
Burrata was also a standout with good tomato flavor and nice thick grilled bread. Good portion also.
Thai lettuce wraps were terrible. No peanut flavor and had a really watery sauce- definitely skip.
Stone fruit salad was very tasty (although honeycomb sounds cool in theory, it’s basically chewing sweet wax). Slightly overdressed so would probably ask for dressing on the side. Fried chicken with it was really good!
Also their sweet potato fries are the best I’ve ever had and totally worth the 8 bucks haha.
Overpriced food and small quantities but an enjoyable atmosphere
large area with no one eating there should always give you pause. With its location practically on the beach of lake Michigan, it has to be a seasonal spot. Very limited menu, and not much in the way of selections. Over all I guess it's good for being in Chicago, but coming from NY, it wasn't worth it. Stay away from the poke.
To be honest, everything is overpriced, the drinks are WAY too expensive for what you get, and the food is OK. It wasn't packed by any means and the service was pretty slow. It might have been that the servers were understaffed, but it didn't seem that way.
It is extremely warm in there I wasn’t aware there isn’t AC. The food was below average and overpriced. They brought the entree about 3 minutes after the appetizer. Unless you are a captive audience at the beach, find another place.
Everything was nice. Good view of the Lake. The food was very good, just slightly expensive. The drinks seamed too expensive. Overall it was a nice place for a summer evening.
I was told full menu was available at 11am... they forgot to say limited amount available.
No ac... just fans
Horrible service— took forever for drinks, the salmon salad tasted like it was from a can. Sweet potato fries were gross. Drinks seemed to be watered down. Definitely not happy about our experience.
I really wanted to love this place. It’s the perfect beachfront location, right in the trail at Norrh Avenue beach. The view is great and the service was very good, but the food wasn’t good. The kids menus was very limited and the mahi mahi tacos were dry and flavorless. It’s overpriced and not a good value but that would have been okay if the food was great. The only reason I’d return is for the location.
atmosphere was great. I wish brunch was served for a longer period of time, especially for the weekends. Felt it was a little over priced, but worth being able to sit outside and be on the beach. Fun spot overall!
Ok to charge the high prices n stand in a long SLOW line for your omelette or crepe is crazy. Love the place but really just put a omelette on the menu or u need way more chefs working at the station. We want to enjoy our experience not wait in line
Great Food and a
I just wish the hours of business hours would be until midnight ..
A vacation setting for local city people. Nice open large space with large plastic windows, right on the lake. The menu is limited to sandwiches, salads, appetizers and a few entrees, but the two entrees we shared, the grilled octopus and grilled scallops were very good. Our server, Sandra, provided excellent friendly personable service. We were there late Sat evening and they close at 10pm so we did not get a good idea of what the environment is like when it is busy. But it is spacious beautiful space with comfortable seating inside and out.
Only thing is portions of are really small if you get there after brunch.
Super venue with good drinks. Food was not quite up to value paid and expectations. Souvlaki arrived looking like small bratwursts instead of real chicken chunks with a unflaming cheese that was cold and hard.
Our waitress was very friendly. She made my meal possible. I am vegan and there were not many options for me.
The location was nice but our food was not good and way overpriced for the portions served. Had to send fish tacos bad as they tasted “off”.. very loud in the dining area.
Great beach views. Casual. Surprising good food!
Over priced, limited items, bland food. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Get more items on your menu please.
Love this place for family dinner, happy hour and everything in between!
It was raining when we arrived and there were 2 ladies at the hostess table and one man asking for IDs to everyone who was entering, despite the fact that we had a reservation and were hoping to get out of the rain he opted to ID 2 girls wearing bikinis before us. We noticed him later also obviously eyeing girls up and down as they would leave the restaurant. We did not feel like we were attended to quickly and when we were finally sat inside we couldn't even hear the server talking to us because the music was so loud. We decided to go outside once the rain stopped because the music wasn't quite as loud outside. We felt like the staff was not very attentive until we were sat outdoors where our server was very nice and answered many of our questions. The drinks were quite good despite being expensive and the food was also delicious. It took a long time to get our bill at the end.
