Shirley’s is a beautiful place to dine. We went for our 36th anniversary, which we noted on our reservation. When we were seated, our server didn’t ask if we were celebrating anything, if we had been there before (or anything else for that matter), so that was disappointing. The food was delicious and the mango Moscow Mule was probably one of the best I’ve ever tasted. However, they must improve their service. There were only 2 servers on the floor. We waited far too long between courses for someone to reappear. And after serving the main course, no one ever came to check on us, refill our drinks or anything. We decided against dessert just because we were ready to get out of there. Kind of unforgivable for a restaurant that has such great food and potential. A bummer for our special night.

I wanted to take my husband out for Father’s Day and wanted to see the renovations. The hotel looks wonderful and we had a tour of the rooftop and the Boiler Room. Very nice! The food was not very appealing nor tasty. And there was a shortage of vegetables. No bread, either. The dessert was good as was the fruit. Since it was a buffet, we provided our own service. Our waiter was very nice but we had to ask for a clean fork for our desserts. Overall, the price far outweighed the value of the food. And the entertainment, while good, was entirely too loud. We came from Richmond, hoping for a special time, but were disappointed. I hoped for better.

My initial encounter with the young woman who greeted me was horrible. I had made a reservation weeks in advance to celebrate my sister's birthday. Upon arrival, I was informed that there was not space inside as they were having a large event. I received a call from someone at the restaurant the day before, but was at an appointment and missed the call. I called back and was informed that the woman, who called me, was gone for the day. she said she texted me to inform me of the event, but I did not receive any text messages from Shirley's, other than to confirm that I was coming, which I did. She showed me a message on her phone, but I never received it. I informed her that I was upset as it was my sister's birthday and that it was not acceptable. She showed no remorse and was not empathetic. Did not have a pleasant tone and seemed agitated that I voiced my feelings. Thankfully, a gentleman who worked there, was in earshot and saved the day. He was very professional. He acknowledged my feelings and assured us that he would seat us in a nice area on the patio. The waiter assigned to our table was very nice and professional as well. We were given a complimentary bottle of champagne for our inconvenience. If the weather had been bad, I don't know what would have happened. I feel certain she did not just find out that there was an event for 100 people. She made me feel like my reservation was not important. One of my doctors walked with a friend and was turned away. The food was excellent. Appetizers are very small considering the price. I was told that parking was $10, but my card was charged $21.60. I tipped $7 for valet, but was charge $8.50. I made several unsuccessful attempts to speak with them regarding my fees, but always got a busy signal. The process for paying valet is not user friendly, especially for a lot of baby boomers. It's a beautiful establishment, but management is less than desirable. Parking cost more than a meal.

Shirley’s has delicious food served in a beautiful setting. Waitstaff was very friendly. We felt very comfortable sitting for a long time talking and never felt rushed. Our waitress gave great recommendations for both beer and wine. Our dinner was delicious!
