The service, food and ambiance were excellent as always.
best Japanese food at SD! the staff are friendly and the view is great. you can see the pacific sunset at the patio.
Authentic perfection. Best sushi in San Diego
Have been coming here for years. Most authentic Japanese food in the area. Took our friends from Japan to Shimbashi and they loved it. Sushi is good and there is a huge selection of small dishes to choose from.
Amazing anniversary dinner
Amazing food and service
Amazing! So fresh and delicious
The best authentic izakaya and on omikaze in San Diego. Sake selection is off the hook!
Incredible service, food and entertainment by the very outgoing chefs! The only complaint is that the hostess did not check us in when we arrived so it appeared that we did not honor our reservation. Other than that it was an AWESOME date night - we will be back:}
My favorite sushi spot here in SD, plus the Shabu Shabu is plenty so share for two.
Though not perfect, it's some of the best authentic Japanese food in San Diego North County. Service was good also with a couple of minor hiccups. It was great that the restaurant also gave us the best table knowing that we were celebrating my wife's birthday.
Great rolls and sake selection, very chill outside patio, looked like the sushi bar inside was pretty cool too. A little expensive, but probably justified. Would recommend.
Everything was wonderful. The chef is truly outstanding and it’s the only Sushi bar I can think of with a lovely view
Perfect dinner with both of us
Excellent food, good service and a wonderful view.
Amazing restaurant and gorgeous views of the sunset! Will go again.
We love this restaurant to go with our visitors, and special occasions.
This was a very special occasion, and we are all extremely happy with the ambience, the food and the service.
Really good sashimi, good service, I enjoyed dining there with my children
Wife and I love the food and great service.
Nice food and place!
We invited a friend and his family from Orange County this Saturday to have lunch there. The food and service were very good. Especially the place was wonderful with ocean view and two hours free parking!
Went for summer night out. Patio is nice has partial ocean view, very quiet and peaceful. Food and service was excellent. Dog friendly patio.
The food here was amazing- so fresh! The menu is extensive with many pictures to show what the entrees look like. This was very helpful! We had the Del Mar roll, dumplings, edamame, octopus, spicy peppers, seaweed salad, king roll, and spicy calamari (like butter). We sat on the outdoor patio. It’s a little cozy so I would recommend reservations. Our server was good too- very friendly and helpful. Everything we ate was exceptional! We will be back, I highly recommend this restaurant! It’s dialed in, in every way....a hidden jewel!
We sat outside. They put us at s table facing the bussing station. Ask to be reseated which they did. The good and drinks came promptly. Too promptly in my opinion. We were in and out of there in less than 1 hour with a $109.00 check!! Definitely Del Mar prices!!! The sukiyaki was only fair as was the chicken teriyaki. I must admit though, the sushi was fresh and very good,
Anyway, don’t know if I’ll return. Maybe if someone else is paying the bill!!!
We always have great experience in Shimbashi. Never fail to make our experience great! Highly recommended 👍
For a table of 6 celebrating birthday, food comes 1 dish at a time, take so long for a dinner at the end everybody still hungry
Nothing to talk about...
First time visiting San Diego and Shimbashi was really a restaurant picked on a whim, mostly due to its location. On the outside, its not the nicest restaurant - a bit disheveled and disorganized, the menu is cluttered and confusingly large. However, the staff were extremely friendly, the food was surprisingly extremely delicious, and the views from their outdoor patio were perfect. This is a great casual spot for good sushi.
Always great and authentic Japanese food and service at Shimbashi!
The Sushi was fantastic. We know sushi well but we ordered the chef’s choice sushi combination and was not in the least disappointed. Had a lot of fun and laughs with our sushi chef who was fast, meticulous and enjoyable to spend time with.
First time here and the experience was great. Sushi and sashimi were absolutely excellent. Service was tremendous. Price is commiserate with the quality. I will highly recommend Shimbashi Izakaya to my friends.
Excellent sushi presented in a very attractive way. Located in an upscale shopping center but in a discreet corner. Pleasant to eat outside so no experience of indoor seating though it looked nice. Dinner for three (three specialty rolls, one soup, a vegetable tempura app, one cocktail) was $126 with 20% tip.
Absolutely the best sushi outside of Japan, and I have eaten sushi in over 10 countries. I always visit here when I visit San Diego. Thanks again for a great night.
We love this place. Eat here all the time. Good variety. We consider this our go to Japanese restaurant
Excellent, authentic Japanese food. Will go back.
The sushi was average. They had some good ideas, but the flavor was poorly executed. The service was not great, might have forgot our order first 2 rolls took almost 40min, other tables got food first.
I took my parents to one of my favorite restaurants, Shimbashi Izakaya.
It was a hazy day but we sat outside where we had the best view of the ocean.
The food there is very authentic, and the service was outstanding that even the haziness was beautiful.
It was a birthday dinner, and we got the best seat overlooking the ocean, the food was great and service was nice.
2 out of the 4 meals were inedible as they were either not cooked or cooked with substandard ingredients. Entrees arrived at all different times with the last one about 20 minutes later than the rest. We will never go back to this establishment since not one of our plates of food was good at all. Worst sushi restaurant I have ever been to.
We are regular guests at this restaurant and have never been disappointed with the food. This time was no different but we were frustrated by our experience booking our table through Open Table. The text associated with the restaurant tells you to indicate your preference for indoor table, bar, sushi bar, or outside table. We wanted an indoor table, and I indicated so during the reservation process. However, when we came, there was only an outside table available and the hostess explained that she was not able to see our seating preference ahead of time, only on the booked day, so she had accepted reservations for indoor tables that were placed by phone. I think it is a flaw of the Open Table system, and it is very misleading to ask customers to indicate their preference if in the end the restaurant is unable to be informed of this preference in a timely manner. Anyway, we will continue to enjoy delicious sushi at Shimbashi Izakaya but next time we will book our table on the phone rather than through Open Table.
