   I celebrated my 61st birthday at Shimbashi Izakaya, my favorite Japanese restaurant in Del Mar. The food was excellent as usual. I had mixed seaweed salad, potato salad, salted grilled salmon, sautéed mixed mushrooms, and shrimp-crab fried rice. Soooo delicious, oishii! The waitresses were super nice. They gave me a FREE dark chocolate cake and mochi ice cream with strawberries and whipped cream...I did not even ask for them to do that. Loved it! Domo arigato gozaimasu. Thank you very much!    Amazing Sushi. Tonight the Maguro was great but so was a needlefish presentation. Outside of great Sushi, the gyoza is awfully good

   We love this restaurant! The food is authentic and delicious. Growing up with a Japanese mother I have missed having real Japanese food! Just what I needed.

   We were rushed to order quickly as we were seated around 2 o’clock and the cut off time prior to dinner was 2:45. Food was not bad, but was very pricey. Not worth the cost of the meal.

   Servers didn’t seem to want to be there or help us. My daughter’s 17th birthday dinner and they told us 30 min after sitting that it would be last call soon. They closed in 45 minutes. Asking for refills you would have thought I asked for a million dollars. Food was so-so. Have had better sushi for that price and with the way the servers treated us, I won’t be returning. Rude and unfriendly-almost as if they were annoyed we came.

    servers did not say hi, did not care whether we talk, kept asking if we're ready to order or drinks without caring that we are still choosing, qr codes sometimes not scan japanese service is usually top notch, this felt rushed and "are you done yet?" how sad
