Sherkaan - Indian Street Food
While our energetic space evokes the feel of old-world, urban India, our hope is that our modern plates and craft cocktails breathe new life into the country's diverse and flavorful cuisine. By removing some of the unfamiliarity associated with Indian food, we hope to create a fun, relaxed environment for all to enjoy!
It was our first time at this place. The location is great, with an outdoor option that's not on the street. Service was very good, but I don't think we made the best choice in food. On the good side, the squash dosa was terrific. The corn appetizer was very simple, but fresh. We weren't too happy with the lamb shank. The seasoning was off - too much cinnamon. We'll be back, and we hope to try more of the small dishes.
If you have any food allergies, this is the place to go. They take great care in preparing your food and the manager clarifies any specific needs once you have placed your order. That being said, the food is amazing, can’t wait to go back.
A refreshing change to the robust South Asian food scene in New Haven with the focus on street food. The menu features some unique and tasty takes on traditional items. They were out of a few items when we went which was disappointing. The vegetarian options are plentiful on the menu and the servers were incredibly thoughtful about allergies and the specific food items we had ordered. The vada pav sliders, rose lemonade and roasted corn chat were particularly good! The decor and mural paintings inside are beautiful.
Sherkaan is delicious! I went with a friend from India who liked the food, but said it was more of an Indian-fusion food rather than traditional Indian. I LOVED the smoked sweet potato samosas. They were delicious. The drinks are also very tasty as well. I will definitely be going back!
I saw a piece in Good Morning CT about this restaurant and made a reservation with a friend. The indoor decor is gorgeous. We sat at a high-top table and although it was busy and active, we could speak comfortably to each other and felt the space between our tables and our neighbors’ was comfortable. The server, Smitty, was outstanding—attentive and friendly, but never overbearing. We loved the food and were pleased to have so many vegetarian selections to choose from. I look forward to my next visit.
We loved the food. It was fun to try dishes that were “nouveau Indian” that is, different than the standard chicken tikka masala. We did find the items we tried to be sweet, so for those who are trying to watch the sugar intake— be aware. The ambiance was fun and hip. The noise level was high, but I guess that’s standard for trendy restaurants. I will be back—I’m already Jonesing for the shepherd’ s dosa.
Cool decor, interesting dishes and reasonable prices. The Dahi Puri and Bad Spud Frankie Roll we ordered were both a bit lacking in flavor. The Palak Paneer Dosa filling was tasty but the dosa could have been crisper. The Gobi Pakora was delicious! We'll definitely go back to try some of their other dishes.
I was really excited to try this restaurant especially when I saw they had lamb shank on the menu. The ambiance was nice and the front of the house seated us promptly, but we did have reservations. The server was lack luster, and didn't know much about the food. I asked if the food that I was thinking about ordering was spicy because my 4 year old son was with me, and she said no. Well pretty much everything on the table was spicy except the rice and lamb shank. The lamb was tender but had no flavor. The butter chicken was spicy, for the shrimp n grits, the shrimp was dry and its not your typical grits. At the end of the meal the server brings the chip reader and has the audacity to select the 20% tip button. I think this was the most infuriating thing of all.
The food was amazing and service was great! I can’t wait to come back and try more dishes.

Went for lunch with my girlfriend during restaurant week. The Dahi Puri have a delicious blend of flavors, and the (mildly) sweet yogurt make them surprisingly refreshing to eat-these would be perfect to eat in a large group since each order comes with 6. The okra fries were also excellent-perfectly crunchy and flavored. The meat slides right of the bone of the Indo-Chinese pork ribs, which are flavored just enough by the tamarind treacle glaze. I’m so used to ribs being lathered in sauce that I found myself wanting a thicker layer of glaze, but this more reasonable application allows the meat and other seasonings to speak for themselves. The accompanying sesame naan was deliciously full and buttery. An absolute steal for $17 during restaurant week. Would definitely want to come back as a group to share many plates!
Also, their entire aesthetic is on point: bicycles and wire bulbs hang from the ceiling, while the turquoise and lavender accents brighten up the space. Everything from the glasses to the silverware is cool. Don’t forget to try the masala spice mix that comes with the table!
Went here with a couple of friends on a weeknight after class for restaurant week. The ambience was vibrant, but not too noisy. The Tiger Jungle cocktail was great, and it paired well with the various chaat dishes that we shared. Server was very attentive and made sure our dining experience was a good one.
Schmidty was wonderful the food was amazing the coconut chutney is to die for and the charcoal chicken. And I think it was called the law of the Jungle anyways it was one of the best drinks I've ever had
Great food, great atmosphere! This place serves the perfect portions of everything.
