Poor service, very expensive, taking good food and covering it up with sauces and herbs, trying to be to fancy instead of serving good quality food.
We had a great time! Our server Patrick was very attentive and polite. Plus the sommelier Jennifer was wonderful! We had a great time celebrating our birthdays together here. Thank you!!
Went during restaurant week, good choices. Our waiter was excellent.
It was my 70th birthday celebrated with my best friend we arrived early but were seat right away meal came quickly food was delicious!
We visited during Restaurant Week and were very happy with the menu and the wine selections. Our salmon dinner was very good and the pear tart and cream sherry was the perfect ending.
Ahh, Sell and Bones. I have been there several times for lunch but this was my first visit for dinner. Other than being a little pricey, this is great place for great food, ambiance, good conversation, and excellent views of New Haven Harbor. Service was excellent and my two friends that accompanied my wife and I really enjoyed it.
I had a salmon dish that was wonderfully prepared. The other dishes were Filet mignon, Lobster and tuna. All were excellent.
Too loud to talk. Too expensive. Food sub par. It was very disappointing.
Outstanding, as always. The food here never disappoints and this evening was even better than usual. The swordfish with grits and Bordeaux sauce was off the charts. The service was excellent and it’s always nice to see Arturo.
Our server, Michelle, made the evening even more wonderful...good food, great views...
Great food and view. The seafood is excellent. Cool out of the way location for any type of event.
We had a great afternoon for my son’s 16th Birthday!!!!
All good. Service perhaps a little too quick!
Beautiful view. Was able to secure a reservation on line overlooking the water. Food and service were both great. I thought the meals were a bit pricy but worth it for the atmosphere. Drink prices were way too expensive so unfortunately we all drank tap water. I think $16 or $18 for a Bloody Mary (a one shot drink of not even premium vodka) and $5 for a single cup of coffee is too much. Had the drink been $10 I would have ordered one. The bread was freshly baked and delicious as were our meals.
Wonderful evening. Delicious fresh dishes. Candlelight and a table by the fireplace. Perfect for date night!
The restaurant has a definitive marina and beach front theme. The tables are extremely close together, leaving no room for private conversation nor quiet intimate dinner. The food was outstanding. Everything from the oyster appetizer to the creek brulee dessert was prepared perfectly and served with an artistic flair. Our waitress seemed unable to keep up with her tables and tertiary staff proved inadequate to fulfill the services of a waitress.
I will come here again.
Find this place using trip advisor and had good reviews so decided to try it. Very nice inside atmosphere but noise level is loud. Waitress was good and rest of servers helping us was good but seemed to rush us through dinner which I hate. I had mussels appetizer which was good then had the shell and bones dish. Very good. My wife had cod dish also tasty. Menu is a bit lacking in the types of seafood offered. All in all I would try again but prices are a bit high
Good ambiance and staff very attentive. Fish a bit bland and not as fresh as I expected.
We were a group of 9 with a range of ages. The menu is extensive. Everything we ordered was delicious and the portions were very generous. The restaurant is in a super location on the water and has a great atmosphere. We will definitely be back when we are back in New Haven next year
This was a very pleasant surprise. The setting is just lovely and we enjoyed a leisurely lunch/brunch. The service was excellent and the wait staff was attentive. They did try to clear the table several times while one of us was still eating but apart from that, we did not feel rushed. The meals were beautifully presented and portions were great. Two of the four were vegan/vegetarian and the selections available were more than sufficient. Great menu and delicious foods. The price was a little expensive but overall a good value for the time and the quality of food we enjoyed. We would easily return when we are in the area.
Beautiful restaurant with a scenic view of New Haven harbor. Very professional and efficient service. We have had great dinners here in the past, especially the ribeye, which is as good as any steakhouse in the area. The brunch was disappointing. The clam chowder should be called potato chowder. It was also too thin and bland for our tastes. The burger was very good and the house chips were great. The "Boston" steak and eggs and chicken with waffle were good, not great. We have high expectations for this restaurant based on past experience. This meal was less than thrilling.
Very knowledgeable server on wine and beer list. All staff were friendly and helpful.
Went for dinner on a Friday night. It was pretty busy. The clams on the half shell were delicious. The shaved fennel salad was also great. Entrees were delicious too. This place is not inexpensive but I think it’s worth the cost.
Loved this restaurant - fantastic food , service and ambiance .
Brought my boyfriend here for his birthday and had the best dinner I've had in New Haven. Our waiter was very friendly, and he brought out a candle and complimentary ice cream at the end of our meal.
The prime rib was amazing, and their bread is delicious.
Great food, drinks and atmosphere. We had a wonderful dinner.
While the food was excellent, it was loud, too loud! I went there for a quiet meal, I am not sure if it was because we were close to the bar but you should not have to yell to have a conversation with the people sitting across the table fro you to be heard.
If the bar was closed off a little more, that might make dinning there more pleasurable experience.
The desert menu left a lot to be desired
This is the best waterfront spot in New Haven. Great, fresh seafood, delicious prime steaks, salads, nightly specials and cocktails. In warm weather, the windows are open to the harbor.
We dine there every time we are traveling through on business; 5 times a year. We enjoy the location, service and often the food. Disappointed in the Lobster on one occasion and was surprised by the cost of the pepper Steak ($65 which the waiter never disclosed)considering the house NY strip is REALLY good for like $38 or $42. The steak was not work $65 period. (And we eat at he likes of RUTH CHRIST and Morton’s. We have always been excited to dine there as your oyster guy is sook sweet and cooks them just like we ask and the service is solid. But disappointed the last two trips. Mr and Mrs Darrell Diodato

Great food and great service with super location .
Fried oysters are to die for
Our waiter Brian was outstanding- prompt service and kept his full attention on our table
Everything was great except for a very loud table right next to us ( namely the women in the group) that nearly spoiled an otherwise great dining experience. We understand it has nothing to do with the overall ambiance, food nor service ( which was outstanding) but we didn't expect loud bar language in the dining area at 5:00pm . . .
Date night at Shell and Bones -- i had been there for business but never with my wife. We were have dinner pre-show at the Rep. Despite arriving a little late, they were very accommodating to work with our constrained schedule. Service was outstanding, and there were MANY outstanding food choices. Good luck picking one salad... Raw bar is amazing, and there was great variety for main dishes, even for landlubbers. Our server was very helpful and creative in designing a non-alcoholic "mocktail" that met certain dietary limitations. Overall a great meal, great view, and will be back. Final tip -- leave extra time for parking, as you may not get into the small lot and have to park some distance away.
Great hospitality great food great service
Great raw bar
Very accommodating to every request
Great setting right on the water which is a rarity around here. Food was very good, well prepared, and on time with little confusion. Happy hour provided some apps and drinks at a discount. Would highly recommend.
Shell and Bones never disappoints. The food is fresh and so delicious. Beautiful waterfront dining. The staff always makes me feel special.
I would recommend this restaurant for two reasons!!! My salmon and grits we're delicious!!! Our server Molly had a great sense of humor to go along with my guest. She was friendly and provided great service!!
Steve and staff were amazing. I had a wonderful lunch. Thanks again
Waitress was great. View and ambience was very nice. Food was overly priced and what we did eat was mediocre at best. Wine pricing was ridiculous. Would possibly return for a beer and mussel pot. That would be only thing. Be prepared to spend a good amount for a nice view only.
Wonderful dinner, great service with a great view. We will be back.
Wonderful to be able to sit outside in nice weather, and because the large glass doors are open in nice weather, the whole restaurant feels outdoors on the water. The food and service are exceptional.
