About

Located in Historic City Point, New Haven, Connecticut, Shell and Bones Oyster Bar & Grill occupies a space that has been a legendary restaurant location for decades. Daniel Kay along with partners Marc Knight and Robert Bolduc (of Geronimo Bar & Grill) completely remodeled the restaurant. Its design pays homage to the areas nautical history while offering a light and airy space with clean lines, amazing water views, ocean breezes and a fireplace for those chilly nights.
To complete the package the trio has brought in award-winning Executive Chef Arturo Franco Camacho (Franco). Franco is a veteran of the CT food scene whose extensive repertoire spans from Chef de Cuisine on the QE2 to opening several of his own successful restaurants (Roomba, Bespoke and Suburban).
At Shell & Bones the focus is on seafood and steak utilizing fresh & sustainable ingredients. We have both indoor and outdoor dining (weather permitting) and can accommodate private parties and corporate events.

Since my fiancé and I walked into this restaurant, we knew that we had picked the perfect place for our date night! Everyone was so friendly and very helpful. The food was superb and the views were absolutely breathtaking!! It was very clean and the staff were very professional! We will definitely be back in the near future especially now during the warmer months to enjoy the ambiance outside by the water. Also, to eat more of that amazing banana tres leche. Everyone MUST try it...you will thank me later! Thank you so much Shell & Bones Oyster Bar and Grill for an unforgettable experience and an even more amazing evening! We will see you soon!!

They were wonderful. I look forward to going back. If you have a larger group make a reservation. Try the specials. If it is warm enough sit by the water.

We were staying in New Haven for the night and a friend recommended Shell and Bones. It was fantastic. The food was delicious and the location right on the water was fantastic. Service was great, too.

We had a terrific meal - delicious, interesting food, beautiful setting, attentive wait staff. Gorgeous summer evening, all the glass doors open with the water and boat traffic to look at, couldn't have been better. What a find! We'll definitely be back :-)

Fun, energetic evening. As long as you realize in season it will be noisy. We had requested upon making reservation a week earlier for a water view and they did accomadate perfect table even though they couldn't promise to do so. We appreciated they tried. The waitress was terrific and the food was wonderful. Our guests loved it and said they will certainly go back as will we! Enjoyed very much! We have only been there for dinner so can't answer to how the lunch or "lite bites" would be, but I can't imagine would be less enjoyable.

As always we had a great time and good food. I just would have appreciated a heads up when we requested to move our reservation outside that the outside was a bit of a wind tunnel and chilly that night - as a courtesy this would have improved our night. We did appreciate the blankets though.

Great food, great atmosphere & ambiance! Great wine list! Friendly, attentive staff (could probably use a little more since they seemed a bit overwhelmed!) drinks were a bit watered down, way too much ice could barely taste the interesting, and what I’m sure would have been, great specialty cocktail! Definitely will return maybe will try lunch next time!!

Decent food. A little disappointed in portions of the Harbor Sampler. The clams and oysters were microscopic. Ceviche and shrimp were good. Tuna Tartare was good as was my steak.

Maybe a bad night for clams and oysters so we’ll try again. We’ll see the consistency.

Great host he was super friendly and accommodating. We were a few mins late and had originally requested to be seated outside but weather change- they said it was fine and had us seated right away at an indoor table. The view is amazing the waiter we had was amazing. I simply put in my request stating it was A birthday lol and they came out with a birthday desert 😻 just amazing kind people. Will be going again sooner than later for sure

Fantastic food and service. The view is unbeatable. Hard to believe you’re in New Haven when you look out the totally open back of the restaurant...water views galore. Happy hour was a great value. Scallops for dinner were to die for! Definitely will be coming back for more!

While our server was pleasant, the service was incredibly slow. The food I received was not even remotely worth what we were paying for it. I ordered the Filet mignon Which comes with a crab meat and asparagus and some kind of cream sauce. The asparagus and crabmeat were over seasoned and barely edible. The steak was under cooked on the inside, and somehow over cooked on the outside. The steak was completely ruined by the amount of char on this. I have had better steaks at a chain restaurant. I did not say anything at the time because I was starving after the debacle with the appetizers. Be careful what you order it may not be what you think it’s going to be.

The place was fiilled with big parties, but our group of four was in a
private setting, unbothered. The service by Rich was lovely and
the lunch was just delicious.

Enjoyed our dinner. Excellent service. Food was good except for the dessert. We had afragoda in Italy which was wonderful. This was not. (A cup of espresso with a scoop of ice cream on the side. ). Not at all Italian.

This restaurant was actually recommended by chef friend of mine in new York city. I work in the hospitality business and always have been a "adventure foodie". Me and my Fiancée went here for dinner. I am now an official Connecticut housewife to be. I moved from the bright lights of NYC to the suburbs after I got engaged recently. My Fiancée is a Connecticut boy, born and raised. He frequent this restaurant growing up and is more savvy with all the good restaurants. Anyways, the food was amazing, presentation was on point. The beverage list is selective which is great as I am picky with my wine. The desert, crème brulee was delicious. It was bit cold but still tasty. The server was exceptionally attentive and detailed. He even assist us in taking a picture. I cant remember his name, but he was tall and young. The only thing that was a miss was the female restroom. There were used napkins everywhere and its not being attended. Other than that, I would come here again. I am thinking of having my engagement party here. Who do I talk to? please advise. thank you again for having us and hope to see you guys soon.

Cheers
The Perry

This is a wonderful restaurant. Direct waterfront with spectacular views.
We were celebrating our 37th wedding anniversary.
The food is excellent. I had the salmon which was perfectly prepared over creamy grits with mushrooms in a red wine reduction.
My husband had the filet mignon which he said was outstanding.
We split a ceasar salad. Delicious!
We only had room for gelato and coffee for dessert. We were too full to try anything more!
Food of this quality does not come without a price and although we do come here occasionally we save it for special times.
Regardless, you should not miss the experience of dining here.

Great spot on a sunny summer night--fresh oysters and seafood, crisp white wine, pleasant buzz on the terrace.

Super-attentive wait staff and delicious, varied menu with lots of choices for even the most picky eaters. The special red snapper salad was amazing and the chocolate pot au crême, which was more like bittersweet chocolate ganache with whipped cream on top, was so rich that even this chocoholic couldn't quite finish it. Time your outdoor dining to coincide with high tide rather than low. And if you choose to dine indoors, be prepared for a noise-level that will challenge conversation. That being the case, I'm really not sure why the management felt the need to boost the "music" level at 9PM but when I asked a server to reduce the volume, she pretty much blew me off. Other than the indoor noise level, everything was excellent. Bon appétit!
