We enjoyed a lovely Sunday afternoon at the Hotel del Coronado. Everything about the place is nostalgic and beautiful. We experienced the Sunday buffet at the Sheerwater restaurant and enjoyed everything we chose. We toured the buffet lines before we actually dished up because there are so many choices for a finite stomach. We chose well: the omelet bar - one of the best omelets I've ever had; the crepe bar - so good; the roast beef/prime rib was amazing. The had a cornmeal dish that was my favorite thing. It looked a little like mashed potatoes and it was perfectly spiced with some kind of mexican chili seasoning that was so good. There was a hundred more things we could have eaten but didn't.

Regardless of whether my wife and I travel to the SD area for business or pleasure, we tend to schedule breakfast on one day on the back Del patio, as its service, food quality, and ambience epitomize the SD lifestyle. Each time I go, however, I am surprised by the extent to which the hotel has raised its prices for that buffet. Good value at its current $80/pp price? No, and I’ll have to ponder whether it’s worth it next time we’re in town.

This restaurant is top tier. We we able to secure a last minute reservation for 6 people at 7pm. The staff was very welcoming, friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful (the hostess took our photo). We ordered a red and rose wine as well as a delicious mocktail (blueberry & basil I believe). We had an outdoor reservation and the atmosphere was great. The only jarring thing was the helicopters overhead every few minutes, but that is no fault of the restaurant. I thoroughly enjoyed the food (I had bread service, a crab cake, as well as the heirloom tomato salad with prosciutto wrapped shrimp). My colleagues ordered oysters, steak, salads, and pasta which they all raved about. I would definitely recommend coming here if you are looking for a great place to eat! An added bonus is watching the sunset on the beach. Get there a little before your reservation to take in the scenery and walk along the boardwalk. Definitely picturesque.

Any time you visit a Hotel Del restaurant you can have lofty expectations. This was an excellent meal. Pricey, but very good. Special kudos to waiter Margarito who was attentive to our every need.

They wouldn’t let us order Cheese on our scrambled eggs! Couldn’t even buy it on the side! I had to run to the deli to buy cheese. Aida in the deli was so sweet she just gave me 3 big slices of cheese after hearing the story!

Menu for brunch stops at 1045. All buffet after that - but the buffet is magnificent. Loads of options for all. Sparrows are everywhere. Any table left unattended got a flock of birds on it.

The ambience was outstanding. We had a table outside watching the sunset. The food was great. Great options for the both of us. My husband wanted seafood and I don’t eat seafood. Our waiter was Cody and He was fantastic. One of the best. He had a great attitude. Great suggestions on the menu. Very attentive from the time we sat down, till the time we left. We will ask for him next visit for sure!

Hotel Del, spectacular view and ambience which warrants the premium. Food was good, not 5 star but good. Biggest disappointment was a $100 bottle of Pinot noir that was Luke warm. I realize it was a hot day but still, I would expect them to have a temperature control cellar / storage.

Dined here as a guest of the hotel. Over populated area all day and night. Extremely slow service as was everything at Hotel Coronado- very disappointing, waited 25 minutes for a 2nd cocktail and had almost finished dinner before it arrived, food was just okay for the price. Would choose another place for what we spent- many other choices on other side of island that were much better service and food.

The tomahawk steak was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. We also enjoyed the oysters, bread basket, and the fish special. Will definitely dine there again when we visit the Hotel Del Coronado.

We had a lovely dinner in a beautiful setting. Our waitress was terrific but very disappointed in the food. They had a Halibut special and three of our guests ordered it and all felt it was very dry and not very good. For the prices that was ashame. My Sea Bass was good but not great. The octopus appetizer was very good. All in all it was still a nice night.

Excellent service, wonderful view of the courtyard and ocean beyond. The food was also excellent, from the very tasty sourdough to the extremely tasty crab cake the starters were perfect. For the Entrees we had the sea bas which was cooked perfectly and was a very generous portion. The shrimp pasta was devine, huge portions, we splurged on adding scallops which were cooked perfectly and delicious. Since it was an anniversary celebration our server Alexis, comped us a very tasty desert. Highly recommended!

The location is lovely and the main course was good - once it came. And our server was very nice - when he came. Challenges: slow as molasses. For the four of us, it took an hour to get our meal and everything was staggered. It was so odd. Daughters meal, then sons, then ours. We had ordered an item that didn’t come - but it wasn’t on bill so a simple oversight. The mains were delicious though. Just an incredibly looooooong meal and service could have been stronger.
