Sheerwater Restaurant at the Hotel Del Coronado

The food was mediocre, our server was indifferent and made little effort to make us feel welcome. And talk about poor value - $38 USD per person for the buffet and the food was mediocre. We’re definitely not returning.
Good was a HUGE disappointment. My acorn squash entree was way too slaty (and I like salt) but this was inedible. The appetizers of the bean purée with chick pea fries was also incredibly salty. It was as if they thought “vegan food can’t taste good unless salted to excess”. My husband ordered the salmon and was less than good. It was just “ok”.
We walked out of there with a $300 food bill (and wine) thinking we would never go back.
The food should live up to the venues rich history and not leave guests with a disappointing feeling. Meh.
Ruben was awesome!!! Food, drinks extraordinary. Perfect meal!!!
We love the ambiance and setting. Our service was quite slow and the food was cold when it came out. The waiter was disorganized.
The food was excellent. We love the sea bass and crab cake waffle. Our service was excellent, too. We always enjoy Sheerwater. It’s one of our favorite restaurants.
Trendy place for a reason. Great views and great food.
The food was warming for a brunch and the service was very slow for drinks and plate clean up.
Celebrated my fiancé’s birthday and the service was amazing. Cory was on the job and made amazing recommendations. Beautiful setting and history to share with someone from Las Vegas. She was very impressed and a memory forever.
The food is superbly fresh and the fish is some of the best I’ve had. I had local sea bass and it fell apart—ina good way! I would highly recommend this.
The food was quite good flavorful. My filet mignon melted in my mouth. The service was a bit slow, but the staff was quite good. The price of the food and cocktails was overpriced for what you get. I'm not opposed to paying for amazing food. I've paid the same price for food in NYC, but the food and service were much better.
Nothing special but the price. You are paying to see the inside of the Del. Very overpriced for both the inside of the restaurant and the food. Valet parking at the hotel is $20.
The food was very expensive and frankly not worth it. 3 people with no alcohol and three small entrees at 181.00!!
I have to say that this was the worst dining of any nice hotel I have ever stayed at. My wife's salad was like a bale of hay while my halibut was like shoe leather and my customers salmon was also overcooked. Should have gone and found an Applebees at 1/3 the price of this place. I am normally not this direct but when you stay at an expensive hotel and spend $50 for a fish entrée it better be a lot better than this.
There was really nothing truly special or amazing taste on the buffet. Quite limited options. The best thing was the blueberry muffin and chia pudding. The blueberries were also sweet and fresh!
Our server was very nice and attentive!
Thanks for great breakfast. it was my boyfriends birthday. We had amazing time with good atmosphere.
Everything we ordered was great and the view is incredible.
Too expensive for breakfast
Always a great and nice spot for breakfast! Great service from Tito
First breakfast of New Year
Great buffet for breakfast
Food at buffet that was suppose to be hot was barely warm. Good selection though.
Service was very slow, but nice once they were assisting you. Was not that busy and did not appear to be short staffed so not sure why the delay.
Eggs Benedict were very good, especially the veggie one.
Not worth the price.
Very sad and disappointing evening. We committed to a fairly expensive one price 5 course dinner for New Year's Eve. We expected this to be in a main restaurant but got there and found out it was in the poolside restaurant which is designed for very casual dining. No linen on tables, etc. We were seated in an outer area that was really a tent-like facility with plastic windows and cracks open to the outdoors. It soon started to rain heavily and the room leaked: water running down the floor and through the light fixtures; wind blowing through the cracks. It was cold and wet and servers did what they could but it was miserable. We made it through the second course then asked what it would cost to leave at that point. The server brought a manager to the table and she graciously allowed us to leave without charge. However, they were still serving others in what was a dangerous situation. We appreciated the response to us, but even without the rain, the experience would not have been what we expected. We felt for the staff trying to make the best of the situation. Ended up having pizza for New Year's.
I expected more from the Del. The food was only fair.
We had an amazing lunch today. The Sea Bass and Savory Crab Cake Waffle were spectacular. Best lunch ever.
When our parents visit CA, we always include a visit to the Del. Our meal at Shearwater is a treat. This time, we found the menu selection to be limited compared to past visits. However, we each found something we enjoyed. I found the Chili Verde Waffle Taco difficult to eat by hand, so I enjoyed the flavors by knife and fork on a plate.
Phillip is a great server. He is knowledgeable about the menu and made excellent recommendations.
Overall experience disappointing. Hotel Del is going through construction. Affecting parking (valet parking only, min $20). Food selection not as varied and entrees were not that good. Chicken dish dry. However Cody was awesome as a waiter.
We are locals who make a traditional holiday visit to this restaurant every year. As in past years, we had a beautiful day and a great table on the patio, but this year the food quality was noticeably poor and the prices were absolutely through the roof. The $30 hamburger was the best option on the menu, but certainly not worth the exorbitant price. The Wedge salad included limp lettuce, mealy tomatoes, and no bacon — all for $22.50. (And who thought replacing the traditional blue cheese with bandage cheddar was a good idea?). Chilaquiles were okay, but not worth over $25. In the past, this restaurant played up its beachside location with a seafood-influenced menu; the chef has really miscalculated with dishes that bounce from waffle tacos to stuffed pumpkins. In addition, we missed the delicious lobster bisque that was offered in past years. Our bill for what amounted to a paltry, mediocre lunch for seven people (with no drinks), was over $300, not including the $20 per car valet fee. Not worth it anymore...
Great food and great service!! The menu selection was great and we found many choices to order from
The food at the breakfast buffet was excellent. There were many choices. At $40, very overpriced though.
For dinner, we had the rudest server. When my wife asked about our food after a 35 minute wait, the server said, “it’s not rocket science.” He kept saying we’d have it in 2 minutes. When it finally arrived, he said the plate is hot, very hot. It’s hot, hot, hot. It was cool to warm. A sign that maybe it had been sitting a while so he could upsell the other tables. He was very rude the whole time.
I love the outdoor ambiance with the sunset view. The warm asparagus with pork belly is to die for!!!!
Good food. Somewhat pricey for the food. Easy reservations. Good outdoor seating.
We visit the Del every year around Christmas to shop and enjoy the decorations at the Hotel. The lunch at Sheerwater is by far the worst aspect. My hamburger was $30, and wasn't even delivered as ordered. For two kids (eating off kids meal) and two adults with no alcohol, a lunch for $130 (plus the required $20 valet fee - another nightmare experience) is way beyond overpriced. While the server was pleasant, she was clearly too busy (or too disinterested) to come by for more than a 'You doing all right?' as she raced by. The best aspect was the fact that OpenTable had shifted the date of the reservation when I went to adjust the time and party size, and the hostess was more than happy to accommodate despite the error. We will NOT be returning to eat there next year. If you are not in a rush, and money isn't a concern, the location is wonderful and eating on the patio has a nice ambiance.
It was for a winter birthday and it was too cold to eat outside by the ice rink and beautiful lights. The inside of this restaurant looks like a hospital cafeteria. The food was excellent! And extremely expensive. The restaurant interior did not match the food if you know what I mean. The dinners for two were what any other steak place would call surf and turf with an 8oz filet and a lobster tail?? Sort of an odd night but you can’t go wrong with the beautiful Hotel Del at Christmastime. We made the best of it. The other nice restaurant 1500 just didn’t seem like the type of food my college age kids and husband would have enjoyed so we opted for this one. If it was warmer the outside looked really pretty.
Beautiful location but the food while good (not exceptional by any means) is quite overpriced. The service was also very impersonal and I’m not sure they once looked us in the eye:( For such a historic venue the service should have been off the charts and the food as well. Thank goodness the view is spectacular!
Resort markup, just know that you will pay $$. Service outstanding and location second to none.
Called and updated reservation to 9 -- Sheerwater ONLY had 7??!! Really dampened the experience.
Been coming here for 20 years...really want them to bring back the crab bisque?? 😢
