Had some Lamb Curry and I don't usually enjoy Lamb that much but very tasty rice, vegetable mix and Lamb Stew. Have leftovers.

Excellent choices for meat eaters to vegetarians, as was the case for our group. You should have sample sizes of the various sauces available on request for first time dinners who are unfamiliar with South African cuisine. Other than that we had a wonderful experience.

We love South African food! Great flavors but with a lighter touch than Indian - a nice change. Good options for vegetarian, too.

Everything was amazing and I will absolutely go back. They have a lot of high quality options for my gluten free wife. The filet was fantastic, as was the coconut chowder soup. The only complaint I had was when a man followed my wife into the womens bathroom. My server was at my table (within sight of the bathrooms) when this happened and I brought it to her attention. Her response was "okaaay" like that was the most normal thing in the world. I will say they practice what they preach because she didn't get upset when I got up and walked into the womens room and stood there until my wife came out of the stall (the guy went in the other stall). But it was an uncomfortable situation. We will go back, but we will be sure to use the restroom beforehand.

Our server was simply great. Very attentive but did not hover at all. As for the food, I could write for days and not do the food justice. It was my first time having dinner at Shebeen and I assumed it would be good but it was amazing. Drinks were top notch as well. Couldn't be happier with the experience. Looking forward to my next meal there.

My two guests, UVA college boys and I all enjoyed the resto, the meal and service. Large portions, tasty, attractively presented food appreciated by all. Conversation easy in low to moderate noise of main restaurant. One thing, coffee was feeble, pretty much in the worst tradition of American coffee shops. Needs work.

We came to the Shebeen for Restaurant Week and had a great dinner. Started with samosas, which Shebeen does really well, and frikkafel, which was lamb meatballs on a delicious tomato sauce. Went on to lamb ribs and peri peri game hen. Terrific dessert. All very good and service was excellent. Also enjoyed a draft Guinness.

Food was very tasty and unlike anything in my experience. The only flaw in the food was that the ribs needed a little more “low and slow” time for tenderness. Great atmosphere. Friendly helpful staff. This was our first visit. Looking forward to returning.
