At a 5:15 pre-theater dinner, they were already out of our preferred appetizer and dessert. The salad was big and delicious, and the a la carts pork chop preparation was very good. The steak and chicken were lackluster.

The ambiance is very cozy and up to date. Our appetizers were just so-so, and a little soggy, but the green salad was good and our entrees were delicious. I had the grilled cauliflower with lemon , yogurt sauce and couscous, and it was great.

Great appetizer (tuna tartare), but the cheese plate (my dessert choice in the Prix Fixe menu) was TERRIBLE! And I don't say that lightly ... there was a big (huge, palm-sized) smooshy pile of blue cheese crumbles and three wedges of smoked gouda. First of all, no cheese plate can only have 2 cheeses. That's just ... weird. It should have been a small amount of blue cheese, one wedge of the gouda, and one or two other things. Second, I'm a blue cheese lover, but this was waaaay too much blue cheese. It was very strong, which again, is not a negative, but means it should have been balanced with another mild, creamy cheese. I was super sad to have to leave most of it behind b/c no one could eat that much blue cheese with the 1 cracker they provided. Clearly no one put any thought or pride into this sad cheese plate. I wanted to tell the server, but besides zipping by to dump the check on our table, he never came back to ask how our meal was. =(

Visited Seven Lions after an afternoon Hamilton showing with my wife and daughters. It was hard to pinpoint exactly why the menu choices fell flat - it was just that nothing looked very appetizing. The calamari was OK - maybe a bit on the rubbery side. Both my wife & I ended up just getting burgers which is very unusual for us. The $13 house cabernet was a modest pour in my opinion. The daughters had chicken strips from the kids menu - no complaints from them. Service was good. The place was packed which made it pretty loud for us sitting near the front at a table.

Service was excellent. Food was very good. The restaurant was clean and laid out very well. My wife had the salmon dinner and it was perfect. I had the pork chop dinner. Although it was cooked perfectly and tasted very good, there was too much fat. With that said, we do recommend Seven Lions and both dishes. As a suggestion, we would like to see a few more dinner choices on the menu.

Early dinner before CSO concert. Our waiter was great, knew the menu well and checked in with us often. We both had the pre-concert special menu, $36 for 3 courses, plus $16 for the 3 wine flight. Great value for the meal. The seasonal salad was huge. We chose steak and frites and bucatini for our mains, both were good. The 2 desserts were also good (chocolate cake and cheese plate). Our 5:45 reservation was just about perfect to enjoy dinner and still walk across the street to the concert and not be rushed.

The drinks were inventive and delicious. Service was balanced with just the right amount of attention given us. I had the pork chop entree which was both ample and flavorful. My dining companion ordered the sliced steak which was not ample; surprised at how skimpy the serving was. Also mentioned twice about celebrating a birthday, once through Open Table and again on the phone when the restaurant called to confirm the reservation. They did nothing to commemorate the event.

We have never been disappointed here. The place is perfect before, after or during a family visit to the Art Institute. Seven Lions has a fantastic 'little lions' menu. The grilled fish with mashed potatoes and veggies is only $9 : a yummie & healthy option for kids! More good news, for people with gluten allergy/intolerance this time: there's an entire gluten free menu (see cheese burger picture). Our all time favorite is the lobster roll. To die for!
