The space is lovely, open, and light, but we didn't have a good experience. We had many different people "serving" us, not ever sure who was our person. The server who initially greeted our table and then took our order never appeared again. A different person dropped off our food, but never did a quality check (more on that to come), and finally a third server came to grab our plates and deliver the check.
My husband got the fried chicken sandwich, which was really good. I would definitely recommend getting that if you are at Serpentine. I ordered the burger, and it came out very sad looking. Upon further investigation, a lot of the meat was raw, and the rest was gray-ish. I ordered medium, so I expected some pink in there, but it almost looked like they had one side on low heat, resulting in the "boiled" color, and then burned the other side, leaving the cooked part on the grill and I got the raw meat left on the spatula. It was very weird. the raw parts made the bun super soggy and unappetizing as well.
Like I mentioned earlier, no one came by to do the quality check ("How's everything tasting over here?") so I ate what parts looked okay, and waited until the server came to clear our plates to point out how gross the burger was. They comped half of the burger, which was nice, but the whole experience was not great. Probably won't go back.
Good food, Great Atmos
Four of us had dinner at Serpentine. We loved it. Every plate was interesting, well prepared and well presented. The cocktail and wine menus were quite good. The wait staff were helpful without hovering. The non-meat eaters had plenty to choose from; on the other hand, one of us enjoyed the hamburger. Early evening parking was easy. Noise level was within reasonable bounds. The desert menu was varied, all of it tasty. Pricing was reasonable and a good value. We'll be back.
The service was good but the food wasn´t extraordinary.
In our opinion it is very expensive in relation with the quality of the food, the short rib was very bad.
Pleasant surroundings and okay food. Busboy needs training. Three of us finished our salad. Busboy cleared our plates and then hovered while our guest finished his. When we finished our meal Busboy came to clear and he put everyones silverware on my plate then stacked everyones plates in front of our guest before picking them up. We wont go back.
Solid Dogpatch institution. Food, service and general vibe remain excellent.
First Sunday brunch. Made a reservation and were seated promptly despite the crowd.
Server was quick to take orders for drinks, being water and take food order.
Food came out shockingly fast. I had the soft scramble and my dining partner has fried chicken sandwich
Soft scramble was a bit too “soft”, verging on raw. I had to mix it up a bit to let the residual heat firm up the runny bits. All of that aside it was virtually tastelessness. No taste of the mushrooms, charred lemon or the manchego cheese. The frisée leaves had a nice, bright dressing that helped but I had to use more S&P than I remember doing in a very long time. The slice of slightly warm bread was delicious but would have been even better with a bit of butter (it was “dry”)
I did not try it but my friend seemed to thoroughly enjoy the open-face fried chicken sandwich. He ate every bit with the exception of a few of the nice, crispy, SEASONED fries that I nabbed off his plate.
Dogpatch Pimm’s and then IPA were great.
All said, for what we got in think $80+ is a bit steep, even for San Francisco.
Food was delicious . Service was slow and impersonal. Food arrived at different times and service staff seemed confused. Disappointing experience. Management seems lacking or something went wrong.
Great service, good food and nice environment, plus it’s close to home and fairly easy to find parking after 8. Still busy at 8pm on a Thursday night, so they must be doing something right! Brussels sprouts, a dozen oysters and fried chicken were our choices for the night . I haven’t been in years so I was surprised at how it had evolved. Thumbs up!!

I hadn't eaten at Serpentine in quite some time, so I was quite happy to have a great experience. The food was wonderful and the staff was attentive.
Holly took excellent care of us, made wonderful recommendations. She was personable and professional. I hadn't seen my friend/former colleague in ages so it was nice to just relax and know that everything would be taken care of. Many thanks for a memorable dining experience!
My favorite brunch spot in San Francisco. Good selection, consistently great service.
We had a good time, just the space get drafty with all those windows. My friend couldn't keep warm enough, and that was somewhat of an issue. So... heat the place. ;-)
Been a neighborhood regular for years and had a pretty lackluster lunch today; donuts cold and tough, salad unloved and awful bruised lettuce on burger; fries anemic and service a bit flat. What happened Serpentine?Bad day perhaps.

Excellent Food. Too noisy (no sound proofing. Had to wait almost 20 minutes past reservation time to be seated.
I was very disappointed in Serpentine. I might believe the poor service was a one-off but a friend had had the same server and the same bad experience before. And the food was just OK. There was nothing that really stood out as something I must have again. As a neighborhood restaurant, it's probably OK but it's definitely not a destination.
Everyone who works there is just so sweet and accommodating which is rare to see in SF. The food is really great, and they're always willing to help make things vegetarian or Gluten free, the truffle fries are to die for (a must accompaniment to any meal) and both brunch and dinner are fantastic, great fresh ingredients and creative dishes.
Extremely mediocre food at a high price point. I ate light: the truffled cauliflower bisque which had absolutely no flavor - the chef seemed to have forgotten salt and spices altogether. And, a little gem salad, which tasted more like a Caesar. Again, very sub-par. I had expected good food, even great, given the reviews. If you care about food quality and have high expectations, avoid.

Convenient location within walking distance from UCSF
Absolutely beautiful decor and ambiance. The food was divine; creative twists on classic dishes. If you're with a group definitely get the donuts... our group of 4 had to cut the last piece in quarters! The only complaint I have is the waitress asked if my friend wanted avocado with her dish but failed to tell us that it would be an extra $3!
LOVED the smoked old fashioned! All of the entrees ordered by our party were delicious! The atmosphere and ambience was classy and fun.
The seating is too cramped for two people and the chairs are not comfortable. Food and service terrific.

We enjoyed our dinner at Sepentine from predinner cocktails to dessert. We dined early as we were seeing a play a few blocks away. We had a leisurely dinner and fully enjoyed our meals. The cuisine is thoughtfully created, plated beautifully and delicious. My husband enjoyed the mussels starter and the pork chop and I enjoyed the cauliflower soup and the scallops. We shared the bread pudding with berry compote. Our server was attentive as were other servers. All in all, an enjoyable experience. We’ll be back.
The doughnuts were so delicious. Remember to ask what the Seasonal Mimosa is!

I loved this place. The drinks were strong, the food was delicious, and the atmosphere was cozy. I personally loved how accommodating they were to my allergies. We came for Restaurant Week and they did not disappoint. The bread pudding alone would hands down bring me back.
Most disappointing meal I’ve had in SF. Chef had a real hard time figuring out seasonings: real heavy handed when it came to the cinnamon in my cocktail and the smoked paprika/cayenne in the beef shank sauce but then nowhere to be found for the cauliflower soup. The bread pudding was terrible, I don’t know how anyone screws up biscuits that badly, and the presentation was horrifying. To top it off the tables are too close together, and the restaurant was so loud, I couldn’t hear the person sitting across from me. Never going back.
