I booked Serea for my final night at Hotel del Coronado and invited some friends in the area to join me. Often, hotel restaurants, or restaurants with great views and locations, can begin to phone in the actual service and food and live off the captive audience created in those environments. This is not true for Serea. While the venue and views are gorgeous, the service was top-notch, and the whole group has talked endlessly about how much we enjoyed every dish we ordered. Our appetizers were the jamon iberico and the mushroom kofta. The jamon was terrific, but the mushroom kofta was a surprising superstar! The party shared the halibut ceviche, pork secretto, and the cauliflower appetizer for the main course. All three were very good. Our server was outstanding, pacing the meal and allowing the dinner to move at our pace. We spent several hours just enjoying the view, the meal, and each other's conversation, and having a server allow that to happen was incredible. We all agreed that the meal and experience were top-notch and among the best we'd had in quite a while. I can't say enough positive things about the restaurant!

This restaurant has every opportunity to be fabulous. However, their menu online and the menu and the actual restaurant were too completely different things. We were disappointed that none of the salmon, dishes or other stuff that’s on their online menu weren’t available when we went there in addition, our server acted like she was doing us a favor to wait on us. Very curt, very short, and couldn’t be bothered to really engage. Would not frequent this restaurant again!

We chose Serea to celebrate our anniversary after reading glowing reviews, especially about the seafood. As someone who truly appreciates a well executed seafood dish, I came in with high hopes.. but unfortunately, the experience didn’t quite live up to the hype. Of the six dishes we tried (octopus, sea bass, beet salad, seasonal vegetables, frites, and hummus—not including the crème brûlée for dessert) none stood out as exceptional. The octopus was very tender and well seasoned so that was a nice bonus. The sea bass, which I had most anticipated, was surprisingly bland. The beet salad had such an overpowering flavor profile that it was difficult to enjoy. The vegetables were entirely unmemorable. The hummus was good, and the frites were decent, but neither left a lasting impression. We also ordered a bottle of Terlato Pino Grigio, again, disappointing. Serea should select a better PG to offer guests. One highlight of the evening was the terrace seating, which offered a beautiful view overlooking the lawn and the ocean. It really added a special touch to the atmosphere and made for a lovely setting. For a meal that totaled nearly $500 with tip, the quality of the food simply didn’t justify the cost. Based on our experience, I wouldn’t recommend Serea to friends if food is the main focus of their visit. That said, our server, Sean, was outstanding. He was warm, professional, and attentive without ever making us feel rushed or pressured. Truly A+ service, and one of the high points of the evening.

I like to make a meal out of appetizers and Serea is one place to do that. We had delicious oysters, both raw and baked., tiradito and a tartar, all delicious. We ordered two whole cooked fish, one fried, one roasted along with two sides. The whole fish were nicely prepared but my only request would have been for another sauce or two on both. Our server Paul was terrific, a veteran at the Del, who made the night special.
