Complementing the menu are wines from small producers, distinctive brews, and cocktails to suit the seasons. Selden is rustic and casual, but with an ever-present eye for quality, creativity, and fun. Chef Andy Hollyday is a 2023 James Beard Foundation finalist and four-time semi-finalist. Selden Standard was also twice named a James Beard semi-finalist for Outstanding Restaurant (2024, 2025), and has been named Restaurant of the Year by both the Detroit Free Press (2015) and Hour Detroit (2016).

    This was a great experience. There was a bit of over-seasoning on the mushrooms and the beets that overshadowed the flavors on those dishes but the drinks were great the pea salad was fantastic and the shrimp and grits perfect!

    Still my favourite dining experience in Detroit after many years of dining here when I’m in town. Perfect cocktails, incredible vegetable dishes, some of the best pasta I’ve ever had, and a great vibe overall. Feels casual but behind the scenes, they have the attention to detail you’d expect from a Michelin star restaurant. Spectacular service with excellent timing. Your glass will never be empty and the plates come out one after another. Looking forward to my next visit.

    Doorman was rude to us so it set the mood for the evening. Server seemed more interested know in turning over the table. Food was pedestrian and overpriced. Not sure why this place is so highly rated. After dinner went to Mad Nice and had much better cocktails and nicer staff.

    After years of operation, the food remains outstanding. The interior and exterior flow is lovely. We ate at the bar and enjoyed conversation with others. Because of the acoustics it is louder than similar sized restaurants when full of diners.

    My wife had an enjoyable dinner at Selden Standard. The Cavatelli, Roasted Mushrooms and Grilled Scallions were cooked to perfection and delicious.

    This is one of the top five restaurants we have eaten in not just in Michigan but international. Amazing food- preparation is innovative and ingredients are top notch and seasonal.
