    Selden Standard’s fare features flavors born in local farms, captured at the peak of the season, prepared in their wood-fired oven, and served small plates-style in shareable portions. Complementing the menu are wines from small producers, distinctive brews, and cocktails to suit the seasons. Selden is rustic and casual, but with an ever-present eye for quality, creativity, and fun. Chef Andy Hollyday is a 2023 James Beard Foundation finalist and four-time semi-finalist. Selden Standard was also twice named a James Beard semi-finalist for Outstanding Restaurant (2024, 2025), and has been named Restaurant of the Year by both the Detroit Free Press (2015) and Hour Detroit (2016).

    Food was delicious as expected, but for my first visit coming on my birthday the service was off. Booked the chefs counter for 8 pm. Table wasn't available yet so directed to the bar to wait by the hostess and that was it. Over a half hour later no one checked in with us, no follow up on when we would be seated, etc. We ended up just eating at the bar and never heard back from anyone. So food was great, but 100% overlooked by the staff. Still enjoyed the food and tipped the bartender well as it wasn't her fault, but a big miss from the front of house staff.

    We had reservations for the chef's counter. My husband was basically in front of the waiter's station and had a great view of the dishwasher. My son and I were seated in front of the open fire. My face was bright red by the time we left. I was sweating for the entire dinner. I told the waitress that the seating was ridiculous because it was so hot and she agreed, but said it's great in the winter when it's cold. The music was blaring 70's rock. When the steak costs $75 a plate, I don't expect to have to listen to very loud '70s rock.

    Our menu selections were excellent and our waitress, Rona, was outstanding. But we had to wait so long before we were seated. The last time a friend and I met for breakfast here we also had to wait so long to secure valet service and to be seated.

    The food was fabulous. We loved the family style service which allowed us to try a wide variety of dishes off the menu and served with impeccable timing. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our dinner.

    As always, this restaurant never fails to meet our expectations. We love to sit up at the counter to watch the chefs do there magic over a real fire grill.

    I was dining along, sitting at the grill bar. It was great watching the cooks preparing food both in the wood burning oven and over the flames -- it actually helped me choose what I wanted to order. I had asparagus cooked in the wood burning over and steak done over the flame. Both were very good as were the accompaniments on the plates. Service was friendly and helpful.
