Had a wonderful evening at Selby's.
The service is very knowledgeable and accommodating.
The appetizers were all very good, as usual.
Entrees were very good also.
Exquisite fare and incredible service! The best in dining experiences - all courses. Gourmet in every way. Jackson, Rex, Tommy, Lauren and the whole team make us feel like royalty - feasts fit for kings & queens in such a lovely atmosphere. Truly a level of heaven.
Service was not very friendly, food was high quality but served only lukewarm. We should have sent the steaks back, even the potatoes were cold. Plates were not hot. Ambience was very dark. Expected better for being at high end of price scale. Wine selection was excellent. Bar was excellent also, great bar staff.
What a wonderful place to celebrate my birthday! The ambiance is lovely, the server was attentive without being intrusive, and the food was delicious. I had the petite filet and my husband had the full filet. It was nice to have the option of a 5 or 10 oz. steak. Both were cooked to a perfect medium rare and came with a garnish of fresh greens. Our daughter enjoyed the tuna dish. Sides are extra, and we shared an excellent mushroom dish. The wine list is extensive and there is also a full bar. We were too full to order dessert, but the waiter brought a lovely raspberry mouse with a candle and Happy Birthday in chocolate written on the plate. We each had a bite which was the perfect ending to a marvelous meal. This is an expensive restaurant that has quality food and excellent service. It is well worth the price. We will return!
great atmosphere and exceptional service in every regard. extremely pricey. the food is notably mediocre for the prices charged. i have no issue paying a lot for great meal. consume' was served almost cold, hated the lettuce wedge salad, hated the sauce they provided w shrimp cocktail. salmon entre good. i think they try to be too edgy and it doesn't come out right. rather they stick to classic foods and do them exceptionally well.
Food was good but not excellent and not particularly unique. They only allowed 90 minute window for a table for 2, so felt rushed to vacate the table in time for their next reservation. However, noticed that larger tables of 4 or more were dining more leisurely. We were former Chantilly regulars (former restaurant before Selby's) and expecting more of the same or similar caliber. The staff did not even know about Chantilly, which is too bad, so we felt like we were in a strange place even though the building seemed so familiar to us.
Amazing ambience. Beautiful. So glad I don’t have to travel to San Francisco, Los Angeles, or New York to dine in a beautiful restaurant. So tired of these farm to table, rustic communal table restaurants where jeans and zip-up hoodies seem to be the norm. Give me old school, warm, romantic, rich wood, white table cloth any day! Food was spectacular and beautifully prepared. We finally found our new special place.
I like the decor and the food is excellent. My last review was 5 stars. Unfortunately, this time there was a party of 5 next to our table that was extremely loud with especially one member’s voice filling the whole restaurant. While they were obviously enjoying some nice wine tasting with the full attention of the sommelier, the staff did not seem to recognize how loud and obnoxious the loudness was for the rest of the restaurant. This detracted from the otherwise great food and service.
The food at Selby's is extraordinary. However, on my multiple visits there, I've found the service to be underwhelming and disappointing. This past visit, our waiter was rude, interrupting conversations at the table and responding as though insulted when we asked him to repeat his questions. He would ask us how our meal was and walk away before we responded in full. I was appalled. Not the quality of service I expect at this price tag.
The wine list is extremely expensive. Main dishes are good but a la carte. The wedge salad was disappointing.
The food was exceptional and the service was great. I was a bit disappointed in the price of cocktails (33$ for an Old Fashioned) and, overall, the food is quite expensive. I don't know that I would return...
Selbs exceeded our expectations in every way. Perfect service, great Martini, refreshing salads, salmon was perfectly cooked with a heavenly accompanying sauce, Wagu beef was divine, accompanied by a perfect bordelaise sauce, baked Alaska was a beautiful and delicious surprise, flamed with limoncello .
Thoroughly enjoyed dinner on multiple occasions. Popular restaurant and staff is professional, attentive and efficient. Highly recommend and will return when in the area. Thank you!
Replaced Bentley's but not even close in menu or preparation
Duck entree was nothing special but appetizers and desert were very good and warrant another try. Beautiful restaurant with impeccable service!
If you love perfect romantic ambiance paired with perfect service, it is worth the high prices for a special evening.
We’ve visited Selby’s a few times since opening and it continues to improve and become more refined. This occasion was for my wife’s birthday. Everything from the courtesy valet to the receptionist was flawless. The table was immediately available in the downstairs dining room. Not the best seat in the house, but clever table position and usage for 3 instead of 4 made the location solid. There was also a hand written card for my wife to acknowledge the occasion. We brought our own wine and the som properly took care of it while we had a couple glasses of champagne off Selby’s list. The food was excellent. The amuse bouche was unexpectedly savory treat. The special thing to note were were also dining with a younger child and the amuse bouche was different (ravioli), but so good that I would’ve been impressed with it as an entree. Selby’s provides fine dining experience equivalent to Saratoga, Yountville and San Francisco.
The food was very good, but I felt like the staff came across condescending. Sorry, I drive a 20k Honda and I wear jeans and sneakers, and not a 100k Mercedes and wear ties. Back to Town, where the staff is friendly and no one cares what you wear or drive.
All four meals were terrific; we particularly recommend the Oro Salmon and Heritage Chicken. Sarah, our server, was very professional, but not stuffy. The only complaint: we were not warned that our very small white asparagus appetizers were $25 each! The restaurant is lovely.
We will go back.
I have been to Selbys before and liked their food. However on Valentine’s Day, I was rather disappointed with the food, soup was luke warm and beef Wellington was the same. I felt like they were microwave before being served. Dessert and the amuse-Bouche were the best that night.
Food was fabulous! Selby’s is a terrific special occasion restaurant!
Perfect Valentines Dinner. The Beef Wellington was perfect. The lobster pot pie was terrific.
Selby’s seems like it wants to appeal to those who like the old time high-priced elegant restaurants for celebrating milestones, impressing first dates and dining on limitless expense accounts. Everything is pretty much a-la-carte so it’s really easy to rack up a $300 bill for 2, especially when you add on the cocktails and wine. They do try to be on the hipper/younger side and this comes through in the decor and the young host/hostess that greet you upon your arrival and I guess, the noise level which was high. Our waiter was very experienced but his head seemed to only be able to turn to talk to my dining companion as he rarely addressed me. The support staff was rather clumsy and all seemed to swoop in at the same time and fumble around with delivering and clearing plates. I would recommend if you want to try Selby’s to wait until they get a little more coordinated and speed up the food delivery process. I would recommend trying the chocolate sorbetto. It was my favorite part of dining here.
First time at this restaurant and we already know we want to come back and bring our friends along with us. It's a speakeasy feel but upscale with a lot of "mature" patrons, however my 10 year daughter fit right in. It's a cool spot and makes you feel like you're miles away from any other restaurant you'd walk into.
I would recommend Selby's to a friend who was looking for elegant atmosphere and excellent service to impress. The value did not appear to be in the food itself. The popovers that were served just before the meal were on the verge of burned and could easily have been replaced for the better with good sourdough bread or croissants. The entrees were tasty and well cooked, especially the chicken with a curry sauce and forbidden rice, but vegetable sides had to be ordered separately and shared. I would pass on their creamy, mashed potatoes. We enjoyed the sauteed spinach. Fish dishes were moist and beef was cooked as requested. Complimentary desserts including miniature macaron, chocolates, and individual small boxed, iced cakes were a very nice touch. The dessert menu was okay and their bourbon ice cream did not spare the bourbon at all. There was an extensive wine list, but most offerings looked rather pricey. Selby's has a 5% surcharge on all items to offset the cost of living.
The service was very amateurish. At every course food was served to the wrong person, and in correcting the situation, the server reached across one person to get the dish to the correct person. The somellier rocked from foot to foot while describing the champagnes. The menu options were okay, but limited. My husband ended up with stomach issues from their raw tuna appetizer.
We ordered several appetizers, entrees and desserts for my wife's birthday, and everything was very good. The waitress, wait staff , and somelier were very helpful with the food and drinks. The chefs brought the food upstairs to us and explained what it was. They had a birthday card waiting for my wife, and gave us some after-dinner cupcakes. We also had valet parking. Everyone was nice and professional. But dinner is on the expensive side. With tip, we spent about 600. Also they have a staggering wine list. Great for special occasions
What a great date night place. It’s very romantic feeling and great food.
Just a perfect birthday celebration! Will be back again soon...
Very disappointed in Selby's. Drinks were way over priced - $76 for a Macallan 18. The popovers didn't come until just as our first course was served, not with our drinks. My $26 crab salad was full of crab shells that I had to discreetly put on my plate. When I pointed them out to our waiter, he didn't even apologize. My second champagne pour was less than one half of a glass, at $25. My lobster entree at $90 was not as good as one I had the week before at The Sea by Alexanders which was $15 less. My husbands burger was not as good as the one he regularly has at their sister restaurant The Village Pub. Our friends had warned us that they didn't like it but we had to find our for ourselves. Waste of $400.
Superb dinner, beautiful preparations, excellent service, and delicious. Pricey but worth it. And don’t miss their martini cart!!!
Third time and last time for us. We still had very bad service and cold food (seems that they cannot improve this), waiters were nowhere to be seen, didn't pay attention to detail (bringing wrong dessert even after checking our order twice, slow and cold food, not clean silverware) and the manager who tried to help at the end by "taking care" or the drinks and dessert was not apologetic at all and felt like he didn't really care. I could go on about all the small things that happened but basically expect red lobster service for paying a lot with food that is fair but not worth this price alone. The sommelier is great, he knows his stuff, remember you from last time you came and is attentive to your ask! I highly suggest people to go to Village Pub instead, you pay less and you can really feel a huge gaps in services and quality of food!
I found Selby’s to be a delightful experience. While I had a reservation, my wife and I arrived early and decided to have a cocktail in the bar section. Rich was the server that took care of us and his hospitality was off the charts. He made a lasting impression that surely will bring me back to dine.
Once at the table our service was great. Cocktails were tastefully prepared and delivered. Food was impeccable, especially our entrees (lobster and filet mignon). Our server l, Eliazer, did a great job throughout the night.
Ambiance was amazing. I love the large display in the middle of the dining room and the center lighting that was more of a piece of art than anything else. The dining room had a quiet but joyous hum while guests interacted and enjoyed the wonderful eats.
Can’t wait to return!
Great food, incredible service, and great ambiance.
expensive, the food was not worth the price, high price for a tiny sip of champagne
Martini's are fantastic (and cold!) Antonio was our waiter and was excellent. Prices are a bit high, but that's life. Will definitely return.
We were very excited to try Selby’s after eating for years at The Village Pub and Spruce. We were concerned after reading many reviews regarding the quality of service and feeling of overall value for the price. I must admit, I agree with the other reviewers. The service was extremely slow. We had an 8:30 reservation and waited until a little after 9 for our table. As with the Pub, the bar is where it’s at for this restaurant. The bartenders are very knowledgeable. Drinks are amazing and bar is gorgeous. Great place to wait. Our server was very intense and not receptive to inquiring about the menu. The food service was also very slow. We waited a long time to receive our food and our very intense server was not intense nor was she attentive about returning. Not impressive. Other than the burnt popovers, the food was outstanding. Our bill was over 480 for 3 people and definitely did not receive the level of quality and service you would expect. Unfortunately, it is very much in line with other reviews they are receiving. I also agree with other reviewers in that a $10 valet charge is really not required as well. Our car was left right in front . Selby’s looks great and the bar is awesome , but service is very lackluster.
Write an update
After my first visit with cold food and bad service last October, thought giving them some time to improve, so visit them again last night, another disappointment!!!
Food again was cold!!! Cioppino came out full of onion and big chunk of garlic!!! Cesar salad was so sour, Selby burger was extremely salty!!!
Service was bad, our waiter was energetic but never came back to our table and ask how's our meal after we being served, gave us the dessert to share and disappear without giving us small plates for our desserts!!!
Not sure how long will take them to improve there food to be "HOT" and provide better service????
Wonderful food service and just a lovely atmosphere. We truly enjoyed our duck, salad and I am still thinking about the sautéed spinach! Yumm!
