Food was great. If you want the Tomahawk steak it will take over an hour.
I used to live in San Diego and my family and I came down to visit this past weekend. We were here on Saturday at 930- it was loud, but lively, with lots of music. The food and appetizers were amazing. The only reason I could not give this place 5 stars overall was because the food took an hour to get out to us.
I never write reviews. But I’m compelled to do so here due to a really terrible server who was all at once rude, disrespectful and just plain douchey. We were never greeted when we arrived. The bus boy took our order. And when the server finally showed up, his first line was, “ what do you want?” No hi. No apology. No greetings.
The food was inconsistent at best. And when we complained it barely registered with the server, who instead kept calling us “girls” all night.
I left a 20% tip but only because the bus boy tried really hard to fix a bad situation.
Terrible. Fish of the day was dry and almost inedible.
Slow filling drink orders. Noise intolerable. Luckily I had a good friend with me to pass the time, even though we had to shout at each other.
Food and server were excellent. He gave us a history of the restaurant and told us to mix and match apps and entrees. Carpaccio and tuna tartare as apps and shrimp and grits with pork belly as entrees. Shrimp and grits and the apps were outstanding. Definitely return here.
Waiter was great with excellent service
We were there with a group of 10 business colleagues and all of us loved it. Food was delicious - lots of shareable dishes. Servers were friendly, professional and not pushy as we lingered over our meal. I’d highly recommend it for any group dining.
Had my best friends bachelorette party brunch here & it was amazing! Our host was seriously the BEST. I can’t recall her name but she is expecting a little one soon & we all wanted to make sure she is recognized for her wonderful service.
On another note, the ambient is perfect and the food is delicious. For starters, we got the cinnoman and donuts. Then for our breakfast, most of us got the chilaquiles & they were really tasty. As for drinks, we had bottomless mimosas which was perfect to kick off our day. Highly recommend!
Food and ambience were great but the music was deafening and more suitable for nighttime clubbing
WOW!! Best service I’ve had in a long time the staff was incredible. We were visiting from Huntington Beach and the staff provided us with bar suggestions (we went or very suggestion) and also gave us a card for free comer at the best club!! The food on top of that was delicious a highly recommend the vibe for a date or occasion
Another great visit to Searsucker! At one point the music got ridiculous loud... But I think they fixed it after a. Few minutes. Had the tomahawk. So yummy!
Under its original management team, the food and service at Searsucker were much better. I have eaten there many times, but not that recently. The experience this time around was disappointing on a number of levels. The service was spotty and non-engaging and the food was equally uninspired, fatty, and over salted. The tequila cocktail I ordered to start sounded interesting, but it had an unappealing smoky element to it. It was also served in a stingy, tiny glass—which, at $14—felt like gouging. The pulsating music was so loud I could barely hear my dinner companions across the table, which—in my view—is a cardinal sin for a restaurant. That sort of atmosphere should be reserved for a night club or bar.
Restaraunt staff was great...I changed our party size three times.....every adjust I made was accommodated for with a gracious smile and affirming “sure, no problem”.....many thanks!
Searsucker has been a go to for me in Vegas and at the original Del Mar location. Downtown San Diego didn’t disappoint. Convenient and fabulous. Doesn’t get better!
The atmosphere, cocktails and service are excellent. The food was a good effort which came up a bit short for the price. My poached black cod was watery and lacked flavor. My partner’s swordfish was good but not memorable.
Awesome food, perfect for a special event. The venue is so perfectly put together. Live music was the best!
I booked Searsucker hoping it would be a special experience. We don't have a lot of money or go out to eat often and it was supposed to be a treat, for a guest coming in after suffering a loss due to midwest flooding, who came to CA for a few days to take her mind off the devastation around her. We drove almost an hour from OC because I wanted to replicate a wonderful experience I'd had before. When we arrived, there were many empty tables. We were not greeted warmly, and the apathetic host seated us at a table in a very busy area (despite a very empty restaurant with many tables open). We sat, sat, sat for almost 10 minutes before I finally stood up and flagged down a busboy. He was polite and got the apathetic host for us, who then moved us to another table in a corner, much better, but stated that there was NO SERVER ASSIGNED to our previous table. So again, we had a disinterested staff member to serve us. Our food was plopped on the table in passing by the long haired male server who grumbled the name of the dish as he walked away. We decided to not order drinks or more than one dinner because of this horrible service. I was embarrassed after building up this restaurant to my guest, that it was such a disappointment not worthy of the money we worked hard for and spent. Please revisit service with your staff, this is ridiculous. I honestly feel robbed, would love a refund, it was that awful.
Very enjoyable atmosphere! Great food and excellent service! Check it out. The only downside was availability of downtown parking.
Too loud. Tables squeezed in together whee they shouldn’t be, and very, very difficult to heAr my date across the table from me. $85 for 4 appetizers and one drink was a bit much.
Food was very good - ambiance was nice - hostess could be a bit friendlier and more customer centric, restaurant is little noisy for conducting a business dinner, but overall a nice experience and I would come back for the food.
Always a favorite when in San Diego... or Vegas!
The wait staff did the best job they could. However, the food was below average for the price you pay, the wait was extremely long between courses, and the bathroom was a mess.
Typical tourist/conference crowd trap. Underwhelming at best.
Great food - in the middle of the Gas Light District
Amazing experience and our waiter was phenomenal! Took my bf here for his bday and it was just the right ambiance as well as the food and service. Will definitely come here again for dinner!
A friendly bartender served Happy Hour drinks while we waited to be seated when the kitchen opened at 5:30 for an early pre-theatre dinner. Great location for easy access to the Lyceum theatre. Service was very efficient-- our water glass was never empty and our waitress was knowledgeable about modifications necessary for a gluten and dairy free dinner. The lamb neck was outstanding--very tender and flavourful. Catch of the day was also excellent with sides of whipped potatoes and brussel sprouts. The dining room filled quickly - a testament to the quality and relaxed ambience of this restaurant.
Most of the food at our table was cold by the time it got to us.
Most charming server we’ve ever had!
The service was fantastic--friendly servers that were very attentive, and flowing mimosas. The reservation check in process was not ideal, however. We had a large group (14) and they required that EVERYONE be there for us to sit. Getting 14 people to do anything in a timely manner is difficult, so we waited for a bout 10 minutes for everyone to arrive before they even started getting our table ready. They had to add a chair and reorganize the table, though the reservation stated accurately how many people we had. Why they didn't put the appropriate amount of chairs there to begin with, I don't know. We ended up gathered for a while in front of the host stand, which I'm sure was frustrating to other patrons trying to check in/get a table, but they didn't offer us another solution. Once we were seated, though, the experience was wonderful!
Trendy restaurant in gaslight village- complementing the Village Vibe. Atmosphere is fun and lighting very cool. Service was excellent! Our waiter was knowledgeable of the menu and wine list and was able to make great recommendations. Our food was very good. We enjoyed the Caesar Salad perfectly dressed, salmon, mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. All dishes were seasoned perfectly. Highly recommend Sear Sucker!
Overall, the restaurant is a nice place with good service and good food.
Pros: food is good; ambiance is nice; staff is friendly.
Cons: the portions are SMALL, considering how much the restaurant charges for each item on the menu; the restaurant is spacious, yet tables are too close together; host/hostess insists on sitting people right next to each other, even when several tables are open.
Good vibes with nice music and decorations. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Food was excellent. A little pricey, but it's the gas lamp district so par for the course. I got the New York Strip, which was very flavorful. Unexpectedly kid friendly.
The place had a good brunch scene with the hip hop event, interested in the Britney Brunch. Be aware of slow service, the food doesn’t hit the same quality as it used to and mimosa’s are a very high volume of OJ when you can get another glass.
Hip hop brunch was so fun!!
Music way too loud
Birthday, very accommodating for a slight arrival delay
Food was great. Service was fine but it was so loud in there, mostly from the music, hard to talk across the table.
Great food, friendly staff
Kelly was our server and she was simply amazing! Michael was an attendant supporting our table and he too was just outstanding! They made our experience a great one!!
We loved our cocktails and the food was exquisite. The service was excellent, too. I loved the strawberry jalapeño margarita, the shrimp & grits, duck fat fries and corn. My husband loved his salmon, corn and mashed potatoes. We will definitely be back soon. You know it was good when you are still talking about it a couple days later. Thank you.
Food and service all good but all too expensive --$22 for a glass of avg wine ugh and have to pay for all sides...unfortunately won't go back
