Pressed Sushi Course
We had a great view overlooking the sunset (dinner started at 5:30pm). The sushi was delicious, but definitely the top of the range for this level of sushi. 1 nigiri is about $8. We did the Chef’s Choice for $99 but I don’t think it’s worth it compared to other omakase I’ve had. Their pressed sushi is fine, BUT there’s too much rice. All in all, not somewhere where I would run back to but I wouldn’t hate going back.
The food here is great, and the wait staff are attentive. The ambiance really holds this place back, though. The space clearly wasn't built out to be a sushi restaurant with a high price point, and the cheap finishes, furniture, and flatware / dishware really detract from the overall experience. I'll come back for the food, but I will get it to-go.
This place has EXCELLENT quality sushi. Sake selection was great, service was outstanding. The ambiance is what is tough...just need to elevate the experience just a tiny bit. The dirty windows were a total downer as it was impossible to enjoy the ocean views through them.
EXCELLENT quality sushi and lots of different choices.
The food was very good but the music was loud club music. That's not what I'm looking for in a dinner out. Plz find different more relaxing music and we will revisit
Don’t let the humble digs and nitpicky reviews fool you… This is a top notch Japanese restaurant. Fantastic, fresh, melt in your mouth sushi. Cooked dishes were also delicious. Friendly, attentive service. We discovered Seabutter on a 4 day staycation in Laguna and loved it so much we came back a second time. So happy there’s another location up in LA!
I’ve been to Seabutter 4 or 5 times since they opened. I love sushi, and would rate their quality and variety of options a 10! Atmosphere is good and some of the seating has an ocean view. The staff is friendly and the service is great. I highly recommend!
Seabutter was so delicious and all in our party cannot wait to return and try more on the menu. All items chosen were melt in your mouth fabulous. Being there during sunset hour with windows open and Seabreeze made us feel comfortable and safe, The tables are spaced an appropriate safe distant for our times. We will be back and will recommend to friends.
Went with my daughter and it was a great experience. The staff is great as is the owner. Customers are friendly and the place has a great relaxed feel. The food is absolutely great. Can't wait to try more.
This waitress at the bar I think her name was Adeline?! Amazing server, Even better person. Anyway if you ever get her as your waitress she will take care of you like you are family! Anyway please see for your self!
Nothing to write home about!
My wife and I decided to try this place since taking over in the old San Shi Go location, to see how it compared to our favorite sushi restaurant.
Aside from a fresh coat of white paint, new furniture, new lights, and blah walls, not much has changed from the old San Shi Go layout. Maybe it’s just because they are new, but this place needs some artwork or something on the walls to make it feel more inviting. The background music was pleasant
Our server warned us when we sat down that they are very understaffed and basically not to expect anything we ordered to come out right away. Boy, she was spot on! From basic edamame, to crispy rice, my hair grew 2 inches waiting for the food! Trust me, we weren’t in any hurry to eat, but the wait time between orders was ridiculous in my opinion. The sushi was good, fresh, and presented beautifully, but nothing to write home about, and not sure it was worth the wait or the price we paid. My wife loved her Mr. Crab roll, but at $21.50, you can’t afford to eat many of these in one setting.
Would I go back? Maybe after they have settled in, staffed up, redecorated, and we’re a little more prompt on getting the orders out.
Good is great but service/staff could have been better
This restaurant is hard to spot from PCH. It is on the third floor of a building and there is plenty of under-building parking accessible from either Brooks St on the South or Oak St on the north. There is an elevator and the restaurant validates the parking. We chose to be outdoors and there is a nice deck with ocean views and breezes. They are dog friendly. We had the shrimp and vegetable tempura which was good but the portions were skimpy and the dipping sauce was mostly vinegar and not at all like the traditional tempura sauce. We had the crispy rice with spicy salmon. The minced spicy salmon was good but the crispy rice, while crispy on the outside, was thick and chewy on the inside. We will have the spicy salmon in a roll in the future. We enjoyed the Sunset roll with spicy tuna, asparagus, etc. We also enjoyed the Salmon Medley of three pieces of different salmon sushi. The fish is fresh and the serving of fish on the sushi is very generous. A lot of the menu items are unique and not seen in traditional sushi venues and it was fun to try different takes on sushi.
Sushi was very good. Waitress was awesome and so pleasant and helpful. Cool chill quiet spot with good music and food.
I'm a Bay Area transplant and have eaten at 20ish sushi spots within 10 mile radius of Dana Point in the past year. Ventured to Irvine and even LA. Hands down the best spot I've found. Quality fish. Great choices. Chefs tasting menu. Melt in your mouth toro. very reasonable prices for their rolls. This will be my new spot!!!!
Food was good, service was good, and very affordable.
Loved it! My wife and I tried a variety of items from the menu… all very good. Loved the yellowtail jalapeño appetizer and the Tuna citrus pressed roll thing. Spoke with Owner, George, very nice and we are happy to have found this place.
The sushi was excellent and we will definitely be back. Nice deck overlooking Coast hwy. Their club music was a little loud where we were sitting or maybe I'm just getting old. Wait staff did a great job of juggling a lot of tables.
Sat outside. Very nice. Waiting for an updated wine/liquor list, "in the near future". Waitstaff/assistants need a bit more time on the job. Lacked confidence, "I don't know, let me check on that", etc. Food was very good. Liked the low-carb alternative!!!
Will try again in a few weeks. Maybe try sitting at the sushi bar next time.
We had a delicious dinner and lovely night out. The fish was very fresh and innovative, as was the rest of our food, but what really made the evening memorable was the warm, terrific service. Vika was kind, helpful, and we felt like we made a friend. We will definitely be back!
I left one star open in my rating for improvement since newly opened restaurants usually are working out a few bugs. That said, the food was excellent the staff seemed well trained and knowledgeable and the third floor outside deck with an ocean view is hard to beat. Looking forward to going back soon!
Have been to the restaurant a few times - food is excellent! Unfortunately the last time we were seated indoors ( had requested outside) and a very loud group of people sat next to us. A lot of shouting went on ( looked like a couple of them were intoxicated) and this was not pleasant. We ate quickly and left
Food was decent but satisfying. Service from management needs improvement.
We booked this for our visiting daughters birthday and as a prelude to Pageant of the Masters. I hoped that since the Beverly Hills location seemed successful, that this restaurant may be promising. The sushi was expensive and not memorable. Service was slow. Miso soup was Luke warm. An overall disappointment. Will not go back.
clearly not ready to be open. the ambiance is weird. help was pretty poor
We had a great time celebrating my friends birthday here! The food was very good we loved the pressed rolls and crispy rice. Also, the hostess was so sweet and took such good care of us we loved her!! Will definitely be back 😊
Some of the best sushi we have eaten. The crunchy onion albacore and spicy tuna were great as was the miso soup. Prices were very reasonable given the quality and quantity. Would go back in a heartbeat.
Great dinner for the 4 of us! We asked our server to bring us dishes that were favorites of the chef. Her choices were delicious - we’ll definitely go again!
Our server was too busy to provide good service.
Excellent food!!!! Best sushi/sashimi we’ve had in ages. Will be going there all the time. Spectacular blue fin tuna—highly recommend.
Delicious fresh sushi, the best in OC!
We were excited about trying the restaurant as it was new. I believe they were slightly understaffed but it didn’t really affect our experience. The music was a little loud and lively at the beginning but changed after 30 minutes. We were on the back deck I really like that space, they need to create a shield for the storage that you see as you walk out the door onto that patio. The food was absolutely perfect. We will be back
Ditch the EDM techno beats!
Great food! Great service
This post may be harsh but the fact they are open and not selling alcohol, and no mention on OpenTable, was a little upsetting on a Friday night. We’ll try again in a month or two and hopefully give a better review.
First, we sat at sushi bar and asked to be moved because chairs were so uncomfortable. Then the food, we ordered veggie tempura that was cold and raw. They replaced it with overcooked tempera which taste bad, but there was no charge. The fish was good, but one dish was supposed to have fried onions and they were cold, rubbery and tasted old. The ambiance was like a diner and the house music felt like they were trying to be hip. It was there soft opening, but not sure they should open at all.
