Sea Porch Restaurant at The Don CeSar Ratings and Reviews
Still love and recommend the Don and this restaurant but service was a little off this time. We were served drinks and dinner in a very reasonable time and a manager and server followed up shortly to check all was to our liking and then no further attention such as checking for another drink or a dessert menu after dinner. After dinner we finally had to flag some one down to please get us our check at least 20 mins after they cleared our table. The manager apologized and comped our one drink so they did make an effort to make amends which is very commendable. We would have certainly had another cocktail or two and dessert but it was still a lovely evening.
The restaurant and the food were good. Expensive, but very good. However, our experience was marred by the parking situation. We pulled into the parking lot and took a ticket. There was no sign that said anything about a time limit. We assumed that the ticket would be validated at the restaurant and there would be no charge. Turns out, the parking is free for two hours only. We didn't know that. We stamped out literally at two hours and five minutes. Five minutes extra! and were charged $26.95! After paying for an extremely expensive meal. We will not be going back and do not recommend this restaurant or hotel.
Specialty cocktail ( blueberry infused bourbon Julie) was excellent
Waiter informative, helpful, knowledgeable and accommodating for our separate checks request
The food was very slow in arriving. It would have helped if there were bread or crackers served while waiting. Very surprised that there wasn't at least something while we waited!
My salad ( cranberries, pecans, feta cheese) didn't have enough dressing.
The garlic fries were good.
Bottom line: Expected much better from this high end resort hotel restaurant.
So disappointed with this place and we were looking forward to it. The server was good and very sweet but the food was mediocre at best. Got a foul smelling stone crab on a shellfish plate. We were a party of 5 and 18% gratuity was added without comment which seemed a little underhanded. The valet at $25 was the biggest ripoff and a very long wait in a very poorly run driveway. Again was really hoping for a better Sunday brunch experience.
We were treated to Brunch while visiting from out of town. Disappointed, to put it mildly. Long wait for server to notice us, poor quality Mimosa, small selection of food for an outrageous price, no carving station. Could go on and on, but not necessary! Hotel was beautiful and well appointed as advertised!
I had salad with added blackened chicken. Chicken breast was dry and over cooked. My husband had grouper bites. If we’re mine, I would have sent back - way to brown. In hindsite I should have called attention to server about over cooked chicken breast. We were guests of our financial planner so I did not feel right in returning chicken. We all ordered the cobbler but were told not available. Too pricey for us but glad we tried. Only three or four tables of 4 at noon on a Wednesday. Not busy.
We reserved a table for two in this reastaurant on Christmas Day, which was my birthday as well. On the website I didn't find any information about buffet, it was saying the average prices, but there was nothing about that u can just have a buffet on that day and the cancellation was 60$ per person so we had to stay and pay 65$ per person for our meal, which wasn't very existing for us. The only good thing was that the champagne was included. The food wasn't that great for that price, not a wide range as well. The oysters to restock were laying down in a bowl without ice (only God knows for how long), so they had a funny smell, we didn't dare to try them. I had to ask my server to refill my drinks. Then they add 18% gratuity in our check, I can't even say for what. I know that the servers don't get paid by hour, but it could be 10%, and then if u really appreciate the service u can add more. They didn't even served the food and rarely cleaned the tables from the plates. The plates were just stocked on the tables that weren't busy with people. Then my boyfriend asked the server if u could do something for my birthday, (idk like light a candle or something) he looked at him like angry and with a little attitude said that u already have everything. That's the worst place I've ever had dinner in. Beautiful view and cozy atmosphere have gotten the stars ✨
This was the worst buffet I ever had. We didn’t enjoy this at all. It seemed to be mass produced and selections were not good. We paid a lot of money per person for this and it was a terrible meal and experience. They should not have buffets if they are not palatable.
The restaurant on the ground floor of the Don Cesar looks out on the patio and is quiet and simply stated. Casual with a small menu ranging from sandwiches to entrees. My Faroe Island salmon fillet was perfectly prepared on a bed of grain and summer squash. Everyone in our party of six enjoyed their dinners as we celebrated Christmas eve. The hotel surroundings are very nice.
The food was lukewarm and the quality ok. The best part was the omelette bar where everything is freshly made. The service was good and the staff very helpful. It was nice to be able to go on the beach afterwards. Not a patch on the Oystercatcher Sunday Brunch at the Hyatt Hotel near Tampa Airport.
The carpet was foul. It smelled like nasty, old cheese. Don't use carpet at all, there are too many people coming in from the pool area wet. I thought that it would be more formal until I saw guests of the hotel sitting there in swim clothes with kids. Could use a different seating area for people underdressed. The food was really good but I found a small piece of plastic bag in my salad. I'm assuming it was a food wrapping and it didn't bother me. But I'm sure there are people who aren't as reasonable, especially considering the cost of our meal. With the tip and no cocktails, just coffee, tea & water, our bill was $80. That's allot for a lunch tab for someone coming from the outside. Self parking for $10 was excessive. The ticket I was given to discount the parking didn't work. I'm not a "cheap" person but the place was almost empty when we were there. Take constructive some criticism and fill your restaurant.
Restaurant was nice but will never return for just lunch. The Don Cesar charges $32.10 for valet parking even just for going to lunch. Our valet parking cost double than my lunch. There are plenty more dining places on the beach that will get my patronage and not have to pay $32.10 plus tip for valet parking.
We enjoyed a phenomenal (though expensive) Thanksgiving buffet, complete with elevated essentials, a raw bar, bottomless champagne, wonderful outdoor seating, and above-and-beyond service from Patricia. It's not our first meal here, and it won't be our last.
Booked a Sunday brunch and Sea Porch changed time of brunch without giving us notice even though we had a reservation! We even arrived 10 mins early only to find out they changed the time of the brunch to being an hour later! Such an inconvenience to everybody’s schedule. Then after we came back an hour later we found out they no longer are doing a buffet brunch which is what we originally made reservations for. It was a horrible experience. Nothing special about going to Sea Porch Grill. Save your $ because it isn’t worth the 15-30$ cost of parking your car there to eat!!!!
I have been coming to the Don CeSar for over 30 years. Last year I had an excellent lunch at Sea Porch, so thought I would repeat the experience. Bad decision!! I was seated in a booth where the seat leather was ripped, faded and tatty. NOT DON CESAR standards. I then ordered the Shrimp and Clam Chowder. Disaster!! Absolutely no shrimp or clam to be found, it was all potato and sweet corn. This was not acceptable.
Thought we'd get a good tasting meal at the Don Cesar. I knew we were in trouble as the rolls served were day old and dry. Calamari wasn't the best. I ordered chicken/risotta/asparagus for $23....it sounded good but chicken dry and no flavor to any of the meal. Was really disappointed. Didn't notice the poor reviews till after our meal - wish I had looked first. Wish the manager had looked at them too and talked to the chef so as not to have those type of reviews.
You would think a place called The Sea Porch would have a porch and a view of the sea. But that would be wrong. This restaurant is on the lower level of the resort, so if you are sitting indoors there is no view and if you are sitting outdoors, you are looking up at a sand dune. We were there for lunch with my mother-in-law. Service was indifferent, and there is no bread service. I ordered a glass of Chardonnay and my mother had a single--not the bottomless-Mimosa. My husband just had water. My MIL and I both ordered artisanal greens salads with grilled shrimp. The salad was unremarkable. There were not that many shrimp and they were pretty small. The greens were not shredded thoroughly. They were on the large side. My husband had the Caribbean eggs Benedict and said it was OK, but nothing special and not spicy. We had an order of fries to share. This meal was $115 with tip. That would not bother me if this place had a great view and ambience and great service. But this was mundane food in a mundane setting. I've had better meals at Panera.
20min for sever to get to us. .......Server was not trained on menu or menu pricing.
Coffee cold, Mimosa mostly OJ, Shrimp n Grits recipe had changed and was weak at best.....grits not cheesy w/tomato sauce(??), shrimp smaller and overcooked.
Mahi Ruben was OK.
Service continued to be lacking even after speaking to a 'MGR'(?).
$60.00 later, very disappointing. It was not busy & now I know why.
Am local so am familiar w/the 'Don Cesar' , it used to be good but will not go back or recommend to anyone until I know it has improved.
Great beach front restaurant with outside patio seating allowing for a tremendous view of the sunset! Great wine selection by the glass. The calamari appetizer was delicious, lightly battered and a generous portion! Entree of lobster macaroni was truly awesome, very creamy & lots of lobster chuncks. Definitely will be back, overall a great dinner experience!
Was so.............disappointed with the Sunday Brunch!!! Booked this occasion with Friends for a get together. Meal available for Sunday brunch WAS NOT on the open table site review!!! I have stayed at the facilities over the years.....must be under new management , and what a disappointment for such an iconic Hotel. Only breakfast "bar" was available and the quality was just not there....something offered at your local hotel to guests, if thT!!
This was probably one of the worst meals we have ever had. The calamari was over cooked and my wife's entrée was undercooked the prices were ridiculous and the cost of self parking was outrageous. The website is completely out of date in their advertising appetizers and entrées that they no longer serve. We used to be regulars at the sea porch but haven't been in quite some time and will definitely never return.
The food was good. Service was fine. View is great. The problem I have is that in the last couple of years, the price for the breakfast/brunch buffet has about doubled. You are now asked to pay $45 PER PERSON for the meal. This is uncalled for, over the top and to be honest, ridiculous.
While the food is good, the food is nowhere near $45 a head good. While the service is average, it of course is nowhere near $45 per person good.
My wife and I enjoyed visiting this establishment many times over the last several years, however, we will NOT be going back. It is unfortunate, but honestly, there are many other places in the Bay Area that offer better or just as good good for cheaper prices.
Thank you, but no thank you :)
