Sea Captain's House
Our dedication to quality has been the foundation on which we have preserved our heritage. To preserve old traditions, but also remain competitive in today’s time, we are dedicated to offering local and always “Be Fresh” products.
Whether it is using local farmers for produce or outsourcing our seafood purchases to local fisherman, we strive to do business with natives and locals. We believe the Carolina’s have some of the best products and traditions in the world, which we want to convey to our guests.
Traditions cannot be carried on without a faithful and enthusiastic clientele, and for that we thank you.
Perfect anniversary dinner
The she crab soup and hush puppies are outstanding... the rest of the food is just okay for the value. We had a reservation and still were not seated until almost 25 minutes after our reserved time and we arrived almost 10 minutes early.
This was one of my favorite restaurant in Myrtle Beach especially because it's right on the ocean. This visit I brought friends who were visiting from another state. In spite of the weather they enjoyed it. However I did not feel the food was up to the usual standards. I ordered a broiled fish platter it was tasteless & lukewarm. The price of two glasses of wine was $19.50 which I think is outrageous. My friends did not complain about their food but did not praise it either. I hope this was just an off night so I can try it again.
The steak was melt-in-your-mouth amazing!!!
Our server appeared to be new, slow, had to ask for normal things like oyster crackers for clam chowder, water and tea refills. The clam chowder was not nearly as good as it used to be, I asked if they changed the recipe and they said no. It was real creamy, no signs of clams and too sweet tasting. Maybe it was a new chef but either way it was not good.
The Sea Captain's House is a family favorite. The food is fresh and wonderful- best she-crab soup ever! Beautiful views. I was so sorry to see that their "shrimp and grits" is no longer available as an app.
We had been looking forward to Sea Captains our whole vacation. We had read great reviews and were excited for quality seafood. Our service was subpar. We had a reservation and were seated immediately but then it took a long time for our actual server to greet us. Each time she came to the table it took even longer for her to come back. She constantly seemed in a rush and we did not feel like valued customers. We chose to wait to order our entrees so we could enjoy our appetizers which were great. Highly recommend the crab cakes and She Crab soup. However because it took a long time for our server to come back by the time we tried to order the “Catch of the day special” they were all sold out. We settled for the twin lobster dinner to share. They were over cooked (one actually burnt and had to be recooked), bland and not great. This is coming from two people who worked at Red Lobster. Both left feeling not well from the lobster. To pay market price for the lobster meal and be disappointed is unfortunate. We will find a different seafood restaurant if we ever return to myrtle beach.
Anniversary meal with wife and kids while on vacation.
Everything was excellent! Crab cakes, stuffed flounder, and kids shrimp and flounder.
This is our second time dining at the sea Captain’s house. Both times the food was excellent. Last year we had a server who was top notch. This year our server must have been hired from a lower scale establishment. While she was nice to us her service was not as much. A restaurant like this should have service that are a reflection of the business. Better luck next year
Had a fanutime. Would definitely recommend making a reservation.
Food was great. View was great! Service was decent.
Excellent service. Environment and food i highly recommend this restaurant been here several times never a bad meal. My three favorite things is the Bam Bam shrimp appetizer, hush puppies and hummingbird cake. Anything on their menu is excellent guaranteed.
This was the first bad experience we had with the food. The She crab soup was awesome as usual. The flounder was poor and had way too much breading. The meal was overpriced for the quality. We will probably just go for the She crab soup next time.
Great food, beautiful view, allergy friendly, good service
Breakfast buffet very enjoyable
Extraordinary server. He was very kind and attentive.
Was there for dinner for 2. The hush puppies and the sea bass bites were awesome! Wife ordered She-Crab soup. Also awesome. She got the pecan encrusted grouper. I’ve had better but not by many. It was really good. I had the ribeye. It was wonderfully cooked, seasoned not so great but was still a great steak. Hostess service was rocky. Made reservations and got there maybe 15 mins early. Checked in and was seated 45 mins later. They forgot to mark us as there. They were saved by great waitress and incredible view of beach along with live musician. The place is probably the nicest set up to wait for a table. Not many places can beat their atmosphere here at the beach.
We made a reservation for 4 people at 6:30. We changed the reservation online from 6:30 to 7:15 and received a confirmation email. When we arrived there was a 5 top in front of us who said they had a 7:30 reservation and knew they were early. They were told that it would be a while. When we checked in we were told they could not find out reservation. I offered to show the confirmation email and she said it probably cancelled it when I changed the time, but should not be long. 25 minutes later I went and asked how much longer, and was told we were the next 5 top to be seated. An HOUR later I asked for the manager. He told me I could not make a reservation because we had 5 people not 4 (2 adults, 2 kids, 1 baby.). Ok....why didn’t the tell us this up front? Instead we were told it would not be long. Then, the table that had 5 people with a 7:30 reservation was set BEFORE us. She went and asked how much longer and they sat them. I went to turn in the pager as we were irate at this point. The hostess said they are fixing your table now. I told her you said we were the next table to be set, and yet you set a table with a reservation after us. She was very unapologetic. The manager also argued with me over us not being able to make a reservation because of 5 not 4 people and 85% of the restaurant was 4 tops. I didn’t realize I needed to include a highchair for my 18 month old as another person. Terrible experience!
Everyone takes a family photo here.
Staff was very nice and welcoming, absolutely no issue there. We were sat in a cramped corner next to a obnoxious group of people, being that we were celebrating our 10 year anniversary maybe they could’ve found us a better spot. Our waitress was great, she was so nice. The food was just okay. Not worth the cost, not even close. If you want to spend well over $100 for 2 adults and 2 kids and eat some okay seafood, this is the place to go. We won’t be back.
Nice location, food was just ok. service was good. Nice wine selection and good view of ocean.
Such a disappointment because we drove about an hour to have a nice dinner. The food was like Arthur Treachers (a fast food seafood chain) and we spent about $100 total.
Always a great place for breakfast, lunch or dinner while on vacation in MB!
This place is a long time staple on the strip and it doesn't fail to disappoint. Great food, awesome atmosphere (it's a very unique building, like you are literally at someone's house), right on the ocean and great service. It is family friendly in a beach town, so don't be surprised to see toddlers and sandals, but it's an amazing place for any meal of the day. Get the soup, and the Jambalaya is a must!!
Great place to go but not without reservations. Very crowded. We are locals would love to go more often in the summer but we battle the tourists but come October it is much better for those of us that live here.
I mostly agree with all of the positive comments and can relate to most of the negative ones. My husband enjoyed the she crab soup as much as I truly enjoyed the clam chowder. The freshness of the salad, along with the hush puppies, crab cakes, and calamari were especially delicious. However, I was surprised that the chef sent 3 unopened mussels to our table, in the seafood muddle. They were sitting right on top, so they could have easily been seen. We were seated in the Blue Room which had, I think, the best view of the ocean. There were some families there with children ranging from infants to about 10 years old. A couple of reviews suggested a seating practice of the restaurant that was contrary to this. Our waiter was a man named Shedric. He was attentive, friendly and on time. Similarly, the manager, as well as the lady who walked us to our seats were pleasant, helpful, and welcoming. Conversely, the young ladies at the podium by the door, lacked customer service skills. They did nothing to indicate that they cared one way or the other about us coming or leaving. Through it all, my husband and I had an overall pleasant evening.
My wife and I are on vacation, wanted to have seafood. This restaurant was recommended. The food was good but I had better at local restaurants where we live.
The food is wonderful as is the view. The service was Aldo great. It’s a busy place so I was glad we had a reservation. The line was out the door when we left. Looking forward to trying it off season sometime when it’s quieter.
Best she crab soup and seafood platters in Myrtle Beach!
We had a wonderful experience and loved the restaurant location and ambiance!! The food was delicious !! I would highly recommend to anyone and especially if you are celebrating a special occasion!! We most definitely will be back!!
Well worth the drive! Great bar experience. Food was delicious. I can understand why this place was so busy and booked so heavily!
The buffet was horrible. The food was dry especially the home fries. The waffles were chewy and not sweet enough. The inlet was bland.
This was awesome great food great service great drinks and wonderful romantic atmosphere
Very nice ambiance, beachside seafood restaurant offering ocean views from bid bay windows in a few of the dining rooms. Request ocean view if you can. Menu offers inventive daily specials and even old favorites like the she crab soup seem to have the flavors amped up here. Did not enjoy the service, we had a new and inexperienced server who didn't seem to realize or care when we needed assistance.
Sea Captain House is like a cottage by the sea! I love the atmosphere here and it’s a great location for pictures by the sea! We have eaten here before when we travel to Myrtle Beach. The food and service are always outstanding.
Service is excellent and hospitality great. Appetizers good.... the stuffed flounder was tasty...steak and fried seafood mediocre... steamed vegetable were huge chunks with no butter or seasoning... overpriced food.
The crabmeat eggs benedict over fried green tomato was delicious. Too much orange juice in the mimosa .
We were surprised that it was strictly a lunch menu at 11:30 am on a Sunday. What happened to Brunch?
We have been at Sea Captains once before, and the food was delicious, but pricey. This time, my salmon was dry and had no flavor; the grits were so dry, I could not eat it. My friend’s broiled shrimp and vegetables were really bland. My husband and niece’s $35.00 each plate grouper was good, but not outstanding. Very disappointed! For what they charge, the food needs to be outstanding. Will not go back.
