Sashimi / Sushi
pan fried or fried
It was wonderful and Ramen was excellent. Our only disappointment was that we didn’t know we needed to call ahead to get the hotpot. That was what we had planned on getting.
Went for a Lexington restaurant week, August 1st, 2021; tried both options and found that food offered for the restaurant week was bad - salty and sweet. Nothing close to traditional Japanese food. Ginger milkshake was out of this world sweet and would make only a 5-year old happy. Side dishes were greasy and heavy - oily cabbage and heavily salted-seasoned potato salad. I don’t go to a Japanese restaurant to get a fast food variety. Duck appetizer looked and tasted like a prepackaged grocery store product. Some super sweet “compote” apple.
My previous trips to School sushi were pleasant because menu was focused on Japanese cuisine. Why participate in the restaurant week if you don’t have a clear concept for the menu? Is this a single fail episode or a telling sign of a declining quality in an attempt to appeal to a local market preferences?
Sushi was fresh and we enjoyed the specialty rolls they offered. The vegetable tempura was great, a large portion with a wide variety of veggies. It’s nice to be able to order the shrimp tempura ala carte too as my husband is allergic to shrimp but it’s my favorite. Highly recommend this spot.
Great menu, service great..good value..Quqlity was as advertised
The service was excellent. Our server was very helpful in her recommendations and helping us find something our 1 yr old could eat (she loved the tempura vegetables). Ambiance was great and we enjoyed the chef selections as it exposed us to new exciting fish we would normally not choose.
Awesome sushi! Went here last minute with my husband and we both loved it. The sushi was amazing and we will be back to try many more things on the menu!
Didn’t know they had limited menu in Sunday’s. Wasn’t indicated on their website. We ordered a several items to share. Seaweed salad and edamame and spider roll were very good to excellent. Potstickers were good not great, have had better. The thing that absolutely turned us off was watching the sushi maker cough and sneeze while making sushi. He had a mask on but all the same. He didn’t even turn his head or take a step back. During the pandemic we have not been eating inside a restaurant. This was our second time recently. Won’t be back. We can get just as good closer to home.
Superb food! Fast and efficient service! We enjoyed our time eating there! Would definitely go again!
Sushi was fresh and delicious! Gyoza was some of the best we’d ever had. We will be back!!!
Always enjoy School Sushi! It never disappoints!
Great sushi chef and staff. A great time
Very fun cute, downtown, great for date, very quiet, cute vibe
One of our favorite places to eat! The food makes the experience. So many new and unique flavors in their dishes, and we tried lots of different items. It's one thing to do a dish well, but to introduce new flavors and do it well is another. Highly recommended.
Our first time and we loved it ! Food ,service and ambiance was great!
Good food. We Got Gyoza, Ebi Shumai and Fried Rice. Quiet atmosphere. Not many patrons mid-week. Will return.
Always great sushi and service. Extremely clean and the staff was friendly. Parking was easy and we did not wait long on the food at all. The temperature inside was very cozy and inviting.
Some of the best sushi in Lexington
Great food, great service. One of our favorite places to dine in Lexington!!
This was my first time at School Sushi and we will definitely be back. The service was amazing! The food was fabulous. We started with the beet Rangoon, and the sushi, ramen and curry were represented at the table. Everyone loved their order. Highly recommend!
School is authentic and delicious. The menu is hard to understand, so I would read all descriptions online beforehand.
Sushi was amazing!!! Authentic menu and choices. Service was excellent. Highly, highly recommend.
We made a reservation online and had a little bit of a wait (but this was during restaurant ‘lock down’ where you could only eat outside and they only had 3 tables outside and I don’t blame the restaurant because people were eating but not leaving) but it is was worth the wait because food was so amazing. We ordered sushi, katsu, pan fried gyoza and Ramen- everything came out promptly at proper temperature. Everything was amazing but I’ve been dreaming of the ramen all weekend so we will definitely be back for that sooner than expected. The staff was so nice and there were lots of carry out orders being prepared- they seemed to be adjusting well to the mandates and following procedures/health expectations seamlessly.
Sushi was very fresh. Waiters were friendly. Drinks were tasty. Overall a great experience!
Food was excellent and could definitely tell the freshness of the fish. Highly recommend people to go and support this local restaurant.
I always enjoy food here but My family and I are so happy that Chef Sugano had joined in 2019. We used to love dining at his restaurant. He’s truly an excellent chef. Lunch dishes are good value. Our server was very pleasant and informative. If one wants authentic Japanese food, this place is good. (I was born and raised in Japan.)
Really enjoyed it all! Great service. Had fun trying new things as a family.
Food and service was great. No complaints.
Very tasty Japanese foods, especially Sashimi is amazing!
Great staff. Unassuming location and a really deep menu (maybe too deep). But moderately priced and tasty.
Great food and service. The best sushi in town.
Cool atmosphere! Solid sushi-pleasantly surprised! Great for families or dates.
Great local surprise with a wide ranging menu, cool music/artwork & attentive, friendly service
Best sushi we’ve had since moving to Lexington. Everything was perfectly prepared. We will definitely be going back
I want to like this place, but it just ain't makin' it. It seemed that no one was in charge, it took a long time for our food to arrive and we had to ask for side plates to eat off of - twice! The table next to ours waited for nearly 15 minutes just to get some water. Finally a wait-staff arrived, but they had already left. I don't blame them! The food was good once we got it, but the poor service ruined our dinner. Too bad.
Not good sushi. And prices are very high. I ordered 3 pieces of fatty tuna and it was not good. The fish was just off. It was slimy—not fresh at all. Prices are consistent with a very high-end sushi house, so I’d recommend just going there instead.
We all enjoyed the authentic Japanese lunch. It’s such a cozy restaurant with the new furniture and nice music on.
It’s fantastic dinner and great hospitality. I’ll come up again soon. Thanks
They put new chairs in. They look nice and are comfortable. The food is so good that we do not mind the 20-minute drive to the restaurant.
Overall, it’s a great place to grab dinner with friends. It’s a little too bright inside for my liking but the food lore than makes up for it. The service was a little slow but I think our server was trying to take care of more tables than she could handle. Everyone was friendly and the Ahi roll is highly recommended.
Lunch was fabulous as usual. The waitstaff was very friendly.
We discovered School Sushi a few weeks ago. It immediately became our favorite Japanese place. Don't let the name fool you. In addition to sushi, there is a large menu of appetizers and entrees. But, you'll definitely want to try the sushi. The School Beauty roll is sublime.
