Went for lunch, when we arrive we were told the sushi chef did not show up for work. Our order came and it was made out of ground crab and tuna, gross on many levels. Our original order included salmon but they couldn’t find the salmon. Portions were plentiful, however the food truly left something to be desired. For me this is a no go restaurant!
I am Japanese. This has been one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in Lexington, KY. In this location, the menu is exclusively focused on Japanese cuisine. Some of my favorite Japanese dishes disappeared from the menu, but added new ones (e.g., takoyaki or octopus balls). I highly recommend School for lunch if you work around downtown. Food is solid. Rarely School's food disappoints me. The ambiance of this new location is better than the last.
The lunch special is such a deal. The food is very good and so reasonable.
Great food and extremely friendly, attentive service. We will go again soon!
This is a gem for Lexington...so serene and beautiful. And the best sushi!!
We had a business meal with some visitors from Japan. They all loved the authentic Japanese food.
Perfect place to meet a friend! Delicious!
School has the best Katsu Curry I have ever had. It's so filling and yet reasonable. I highly recommend it.
Lunch was fablous!!! All the food they serve is so authentic that we love it.
I had Katsu Curry - It's the best in the U.S.!!! I highly recommend it.
Great fresh sushi! Service was amazing , and food came out in a timely manner.
We truly enjoyed the authentic Japanese lunch.
Having lived in Japan for many years, I am spoiled to the authentic Japanese cuisine/sushi experience. School absolutely smoked my very high expectations!
The ambience was modern and sophisticated but still warm.
The service was prompt and attentive but still gave us enough space/time to develop the experience. It was well balanced.
The appetizer portions were generous and the presentation was true. The flavors were intense and authentic.
The sushi was some of the best I have had in America. Cool temperature, visually fresh/good color, great flavors and great accompaniments.
We will be back and I have already recommended this establishment to some discerning palates.

Lunch was fabulous. I had never seen the restaurant so busy for lunch. I am very glad the restaurant is getting more and more popular and that many people appreciate the fantastic food.
We had a wonderful time on our first visit. The food was very fresh and way more delicious that we thought it would be! Everyone that worked there was very friendly and accommodating to us (especially since we had our 4 month old with us). Highly recommend!
It was a new place and very nice. The food was great and we will go again when we are in town.
Delicious food and great service. The atmosphere is lacking. There is very bright lighting when it should be cozy and romantic. But I still highly recommend, as the food was wonderful!
A solid choice for a date night, special occasion, or just to fulfill a hankering for some superb sushi! Great ambiance, and the giant vault door was intriguing. The Honey Bee roll was a splendid choice, and the Fire Scallop roll lived up to its name with a blend of spice and smokey nuances. Easy access parking out front and a cheap pay lot across the street. Interesting street art in the neighborhood as well. Definitely would venture hear again!
The salad was good. The sushi/sashimi was barely passable for serving. The yellowtail, in particular, was beyond the expiration date. The management tried to make it seem like we just didn't know how good sushi tasted. The fish was brown and warm, also pre-cut and wrapped in saran wrap because it had been stored for days. I hate giving bad reviews, but I cannot recommend this place to anyone.
The food was great but they got busy and we waited about 90 minutes for our food. They did apologize and comp us some drinks to try to make up for it
Sushi was good
We all had "Makunouchi" and enjoyed the variety of the authentic food. It was so tasty!
unfortunately we waited for over 30 minutes for received our sushi. the two of us arrived after a private party located in the karaoke room . a quick dinner turned in to a 2 hour affair. the servers were fantastic. manager attended us to apologize.
The noodles (Udon) were great! The soup tasted just like what you would get at a nice noodle restaurant in Japan.
We had Katsu Curry, and it was fantastic! They updated the lunch menu, and it's even better than before.
The meal was fantastic! It's worth driving from Georgetown to have a nice lunch.
I took a couple of my Japanese colleagues there for lunch, and they just loved the food. We will definitely go back there. It's worth the 20-min drive.
They had Okonomiyaki for the pizza week, and we tried it. It was delicious!
I am from Japan and had a business trip to the area. My colleague recommended this restaurant, so I went there for the first time. The food was fablous! I will defenitey go back when I'm in town again.
Lunch was great! The food is not only authentic and delicious, but we liked the generous portion.
The five of us (all Japanese nationals) had a great lunch. The food is totally authentic, and we all loved it. Everyone should try the Okonomiyaki, a Japanese savory pancake. It is amazing!
The sushi was solidly good and reasonably priced. Our server was lovely, as was the manager, who made sure we were enjoying our meal. Of the sushi we had, I would highly reccommend the honey tempura roll--it was delicious!
This is a fabulous Japanese restaurant! The sushi Shin-san makes is awesome and tastes just like the best sushi restaurant in Tokyo.
All the food we had from appetizers to desserts was fantastic!
Great sushi and noodles. Lots of choices beyond just "rolls" but kitchen was slow and service was lacking
I have been to Japan over 50 times and this food is very authentic to the taste, flavors and textures you would find there. The ambience is modern and fresh and great for quiet conversations. Check out the vault room.
Great food and beautiful decor. The only issue was that sushi was very slow to come out, but the one diner at our table who did not order sushi got her meal about 40 minutes before the rest of the table, so the timing was not great. Since this is a new space, I'm sure they are still working on things.
This is the best Japanese restaurant in Kentucky by far. I'm from Japan and know it's authentic. I love the food, atmosphere, service, friendly staff... everything!
First time here. I brought a group with six (workplace friends) with me to give it a try. Lunch box is good value for money. Wait was a bit long, but waiter was attentive. We enjoyed it!
Great food and service. The place is fabulous.
