Was celebrating my birthday & staff/service was attentive & efficient. The food preparation was ok but the meals are pricey.
They did nothing
Creative food, attentive service, look forward to the roof deck in summer.
Food was outstanding
Sawyers never disappoints! We have been many time now and each meal is better than the last. This time we tried the beef fat candle appetizer and were blown away.
Great food, very cool atmosphere. The house salad was simple, yet had amazing flavor. The GH wings are a must-try. A little pricy, and smaller portions, but great food!
Great food and service.
Overall experience was terrible. Service was mediocre (asked twice for more cream, never got it, so I couldn’t even enjoy my coffee). Kitchen screwed up poached eggs TWICE (the second time they came out fried - pure laziness). French toast was one piece of bread, it was dry, and only half of one piece had the cinnamon/sugar/s’mores seasoning on it because they could be bothered to lift the other half up. Won’t be back.
Got there early, had pre meal cocktails at the bar. While at the bar, we could see all the dishes coming out and changed our minds a few time on what we were planning to order because everything looked so good. Also, while at the bar we asked the bartenders their favorite dishes - to which, they were very knowledgeable about the dishes.
When we were seated, our server was Nick and he was awesome. He was extremely personable and attentive.
The appetizer, meal and dessert were all flavorful and perfect portions. Though we did not notice, the manager apologized for the time time it took for the meal to come out, and they comped us the dessert.
Definitely will go back when the weather breaks so we can sit outside on the patio portion.
This was our first and perhaps last visit to Sawyer's. First off the service was attentive and the flavor of the dishes we ordered were very good. That said, the size of the portions and price for the servings did not calibrate. The best dish ordered were the crispy Thai Brussel Sprouts and the most disappointing was the Brocollini. I enjoyed the Seared Scallops and my wife was disappointed with the Smashed Burger. Two beers, 4 dishes, and a tab over $100. I am glad we visited, but I doubt if we will return as I feel there are much better culinary values in Cleveland. Thank god Mitchell's Ice Cream was next door to soothe our disappointment.
Food, cocktails, atmosphere, and service were incredible! Can’t say enough good things. Looking forward to our next visit
This was not a bad experience just nothing set it apart. So, just average. Brittany, the hostess, was outstanding however.
Travis, Russ, Brittany, everyone was beyond hospitable. All dishes were spot on, spectacularly delicious, interesting and well executed. New powerhouse of the Cleveland dining scene. Bravo! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🍾
One and done for us. Burger was terrible. Two super thin overcooked patties. Creme brûlée consistency was more like an underdone cheesecake. Scallops were ok. Wings, although billed as greenhouse recipe are not nearly as good.
Not sure about the other reviewers, but we had an excellent experience. My wife and I went in on a Sunday evening. It was moderately busy, but the server came and got our order right away. We purchased 2 appetizers and 2 main meals. All of which came out in a timely manner. I would definitely go back again!
We love it a lot, food , drinks, service all very good. New building, great decor, highly recommend!
We’ll be back! From when we walked in the door to when we lit our coats on to leave, this experience was great. The decor, the food, the drinks, the feelings were all amazing.
Just disappointing. All dishes were served Luke warm. Not much flavor aside from the octopus dish. Server spent more time socializing at the hostess table then checking things out in the dining room. Was really hoping that this place would be better as I live near by, alas it was not and probably won’t be back for quite sometime. It’s expensive as well. 150 bucks including tip and only one glass of wine.
Place was meh all around.
Food was good, albeit slightly pretentious and small portioned. Sunday night staff was a bit slow and inexperienced. Were told by server that restaurant did not have any coffee made, and did not serve iced tea. Server also did not know how to pronounce tarte tatin (on the menu that night) and proceeded to provide us with the check without offering dessert or after dinner drinks. Overall average and slightly disappointing dining experience.
Made reservations and seated 45 minutes later after arrival
Fish entrees were burned and dry
Had to ask to clean the table twice
Worse service
McDonald’s can help them
Great vibe, great food, excellent experience
Amazing food, service and atmosphere!
Love the space. The recipes were great, but execution fell short. Two of our dishes were cold in the middle (gnocchi and duck). I really wanted to love it. The menu looks great, flavors were there. Would try again after awhile (practice makes perfect?).
Brunch was so good! We had the Benedict, steak and eggs, and the s’mores French toast.
Sad to say I was disappointed with Sawyer’s. I love Green House Tavern but Sawyer’s was just nowhere near the same level in any way. The gnocchi were gluey and flavorless, there was very little beef in the sauce and the greens overwhelmed the other flavors in the dish. My cocktail was watery. The decor seems kind of cheap and looks like it was designed by an instagram influencer who’s 2 years behind current trends. Loudness made it hard to have a conversation. Jonathan Sawyer can do better!
The food was outstanding but I left hungry.
Next time I will order an appetizer or side. The martini I had was very weak and not chilled.
Not up to usual Sawyer standards. Very disappointing given the hype.
The single star google reviews say it all. Go somewhere else.
The food was great. Reservation was for 8:15. They officially closed @ 9. We felt rushed with the food and drink service. Would have had another drink but we were never offered. We love Jonathan’s restaurants. My only suggestion is don’t take OT reservations that close to the end of the night if the goal is to push people out. We would try again.
Our waitress was very helpful with my special needs since the menu had changed that day.
Appetizers were yummy and interesting. The Tomahawk port chop was amazing. Dessert items were very limited that day compared with the menu we viewed online. Disappointed I couldn't get a decaf espresso/cappuccino for dessert. However, the maple crème brulee with bacon powder was very much enjoyed by my husband.
The management and staff was superb! Food was amazing! Will definitely go back!
Food was tasty but portions are small for the price so if you are hungry be prepared to spend a lot. Otherwise it was a change of pace for a business meeting
We were apprehensive as we had heard such mixed reviews about the food and the service. Our server, Brittany, was wonderful, and the runners were on top of their game. The noise level was high, but we expected that so it was no surprise. The food was good and reasonably priced. We’ll be back.
The food was really good but the noise level was so high that it was hard to hear the person next to me much less the one across from me. We couldn’t believe how loud it was. It definitely made the evening less enjoyable which was a shame because the food really was quite good. The service was ok, not spectacular but nothing really to complain about. The atmosphere is rather diner-like. Loud, formica/plastic feel to the place. If you’re looking for cozy and intimate this is not your place. If you want lively and energetic with a party-like atmosphere (loud and a bit chaotic) this might be your place.
Our food was great and our server, Rachel was outstanding. I would highly recommend this restaurant--just so you know, the portions are not big and the restaurant is quite loud!
I liked Sawyer's. The food I got was good, but the menu is very limited. It was NOISY!!! And it is cramped. The layout makes it difficult for the servers to pass by and for guests to navigate. I want this place to succeed as I live in Shaker and am a fan of the Van Aken District. Therefore, I offer this suggestion... work with your waitstaff and bus people. Our waiter seemed annoyed every time we asked a question, when he brought our food and he never once smiled!
Very unusual items on the menu. You can feast on small plates that are all delicious.
Our group thought it was just OK. The restaurant itself is nice :)
Fabulous service!! Sat in a corner that wasn’t great! Food was Great! Brussell sprouts were the Bomb!!!
