Great food, wine and service
TERRIBLE. Not going back. Because of the rain, my reservation for a party of 2 was not honored (because I had selected outdoor seating - and indoor seating was not an option.) There were at least 4 open tables inside the restaurant. I was told we would have to wait at least 30 minutes, and to sit at the bar. There was not even room for an additional chair to seat someone at the bar, so 2 minutes later we were told we could be seated at a hightop table. We were literally SHOVED in 11 inches of space between two parties, could not hear each other, and sat like that for over 10 minutes before the server even realized we were there and brought us water. At this point we decided to leave, and all of a sudden, when we expressed that we would be going elsewhere, we were offered to sit at one of the 4 open tables that just 13 minutes ago were not available for 30+ minutes. -_- We still left. There was no reason to be thrown around like that. I know it doesn't rain in LA often, but it's not an impossibility. A restaurant needs to know how to handle that without devolving into chaos that makes patrons feel unwelcome and like an inconvenience.
My new favorite place!
When I made the reservation on open table I picked outdoor seating only to be told that the patio closes between certain hours. So that was a bummer. Also, I didn’t realize when I made the res that they go to a limited menu midday (though the options were still great, just a small selection). Another thing was that when we ordered, some of the items didn’t state they came with fries so we ordered fries to start and then all of our entrees came with fries (I felt like the server should have mentioned that??) anyway, I said something and eventually they took them off the bill but we would have loved to order side salads and kept the side of fries. That being said, I love Sawyer. Just beware of what time you go. Because the full menu and patio seating kind of make Sawyer what it is.
Wonderful server, great great vibe! FOOD WAS AMAZING!
The experience at sawyer was amazing. I tried out their Happy Hour Menu. Definitely worth trying. I would come
Back to their spot.
As the guys sitting next to us said “food’s good but the staff are zombies”
We finished our mains and then were given the check.
We didn’t get offered coffee or dessert. Really rude.
Food was good but nothing amazing.
So overrated. Adorable restaurant. Rest falls flat. Better food could be made at home. Our waitress also messed up about 75% of order “forgetting we ordered things” missed substitutions etc
This place is awesome. Food is good and so are the cocktails. I highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a chill and lively spot to have brunch with family and friends.
2nd time at Sawyer. The food and service have taken quite a fall. People waiting far too long to be seated, servers wondering about sipping down their drinks while chatting with other servers. Waited 30 minutes before being served. By then, the food was too cold and salty. Add to that, restaurant has no parking for brunch (valet only for dinner) so good luck trying to find a street spot. Overall, not worth a revisit.
excellent restaurant. Attentive staff, great atmosphere, delicious food, not pretentious. Highly recommended.
La comida estaba OK, nada especial, y también un poco cara. Tomé la rollita de langosta, y sabía bastante bien, pero mi esposa probó el pollo de suero de leche, y la piel era muy duro, difícil de comer.
The hostess was not very welcoming and seemed bored. But, the waitstaff is reliably excellent. The back patio is lovely but was inexplicably closed when we were there. That was a bit disappointing.
The food is very, very good and should be shared so you can try more items.
The space is really beautiful and our server was very kind and friendly. It was busy but not to the point that it should have taken 10 minutes for anyone to come to our table for our drink order or at the least waters.
We eventually got our drink orders in (kombucha) and the table next to us who came after us were served their craft cocktails and water before we got water or our kombucha. It’s summer and about 100° I think waters should be served to make guests comfortable whilst waiting for our server.
—Our meals also came well after that table. It was just so slow. The food was good but after waiting so long for it all I think we were just very over it all together. Shame because it’s a nice place and I think we caught it in a bad day Because we won’t go back now.
Had a great time. Our wait staff was very nice and fun. The food was great. The hush puppies were good but not to die for. That chicken sandwich tho.
Amazing food, drinks, ambiance, and service!
Beautiful restaurant. Food is all delicious but the biscuits are another level!
Crab cake was way to salty! The flavor was all over sour and salty, the lobster sandwich was boring. Our server need to sleep she was emotionless
Food and service was great. I looked above me and saw a plant hanging off the wall, that was covered in dust. I won't go back if I have to. I'm bummed because I really liked the place, but cleanliness above my food is more important.
Got seated on the lovely outdoor patio and the food was excellent.
Food is great. Service is good. The music is oppressively loud.
Love this spot! I've gone for brunch as well as dinner and I've never been disappointed. The staff is great, food and drinks are delicious and the atmosphere is wonderful.
I’ve been to this restaurant several times as it’s a local, be neighborhood spot that has an amazing ambiance. A beautiful atmosphere, spot on service and great food make it a reliable go-to for special occasions. Again, perfect service, beautiful vibe and good food!
Sawyer is our Go To restaurant. Inexpensive and comfortable. You get good food and good service for a reasonable price. Not fancy and not elaborate with a very simple menu. We go there often.
Food was ok but nothing spectacular or special. We were expecting something “Carraibean” as mentioned in website but nothing such as.
What a pleasant delight! This place is such a gem. Not only is the food delicious, but the atmosphere and the service are unparalleled. My friend had a stroller and the hostess and wait staff accommodated the space we needed without question. Loved my experience!
We ate on the patio which is gorgeous and relatively quiet. The noise level of the restaurant inside is quite high. Food was excellent.
They changed the fried chicken sammich so now it aligns with the LA demanded ‘hot chicken’ fad. Still really good.
Enjoyed the lobster roll and the goat cheese and mashed pea toast. Service gets 3 stars because despite our reservation, we were not seated until 20 minutes later. Overall, once we were seated the service was very good. If you’re ok with the loud noise, it’s a comfortable, casual atmosphere.
Sawyer is a perfectly adequate neighborhood restaurant. The trout was good, thought the lobster roll compared poorly to Maine lobster rolls. Service was a bit slow, though the wait staff was very good. It was quite loud. It's a very nice space.
We loved Sawyer, the halibut cooked in a broth base was excellent! Chopped salad and baked oysters were equally good. Will certainly go back!
We sort of expected the food to be amazing based on reviews but the high level of service and thoughtful staff was a welcome discovery on our birthday/date night. We ordered from the starters menu and recommend the broiled oysters, shrimp and beet salad. We paired with the Harrington Mourvedre red recommended by our server and it did not disappoint. They charged for the heated bread but it was well worth it. I would avoid the crab cake and the chocolate mousse was OK but tasted a bit too much like a Ferrero Rocher ball. We love the feel of this place especially the outdoor patio in the back.
Beautiful atmosphere, staff very nice. Great service. Love it!
It was Father's Day and we had no plans but were in the neighborhood. The drinks were very well put together. Lobster roll was great. If they have the Crab Cake on the menu, order it! Enjoyed it very much.
It was a cute and modern place. Fresh and clean look to the overall restaurant. Food was delicious.
While I enjoyed the restaurant, my reservation specifically requested outdoor seating. When we arrived, I was informed that the patio is only open on the weekends. I asked why they didn't call to let me know that since it was requested and not available. I was told by the hostess that they would call "next time".
Two hours later, when we were leaving, we noticed a party sitting on the patio, I asked the hostess what the deal was and was told that the party out side had said they had a hard time hearing in the restaurant due to the noise level.
That was why I wanted to be outside too. We even had to move our table when we were first seated due to the difficulty in hearing my dining partner.
She was indeed, the hostess with the leastest.
Thank you so much. That was amazing
Early fathers day
We were at Sawyer right after it opened and thought it was good not great. This is our first time back since then and what a change. Menu with better options, not as bar food centric but if that's what you want, there is plenty to choose from. We started with a selection of raw oysters and the broiled oysters...excellent. I had the mussels which were great. Husband ordered the fried chicken, which he loved...and ate again the following night at home because there was so much. Definitely will be returning to try other options. And kudos to our waiter, Ross.
Love the space, love the food, service is great. The patio is magical and the inside is adorable and well-designed. Food is comfort with a twist, lots of interesting tastes made to perfection. This is a new neighborhood favorite.
