I live in the neighborhood and have been a few times. Enjoy the food but generally the portions are small. Like the atmosphere and especially the patio. The pappardelle with bolognese sauce although good would barely qualify as a starter. Even by Italian standards for a pasta course. Went with friends recently for dinner and we all felt the servings have gotten smaller recently. Also, there was only one server. Not ideal. The 'would you recommend Sawyer to a friend' question should have a 'maybe' or 'conditionally' option. Not just 'yes' or 'no.'
Mediocre, overpriced food. Service a bit of a mess with dish timing all wrong and waiting almost 30mins before even getting a drink order in - and it wasn't even that busy.
Great food we were a party of 6 and all were happy with dishes ranging from fish to pasta to burgers.
Good choice of cocktails and wine. The main room is loud but so were my friends!
Waaaaaaay too loud for a brunch hour.
Made a reservation and we were seated right away. Great Oysters and Seared scallops. Little gem salad large enough to share and very tasty. Good cocktail choices. Friendly and attentive service. Only complaint was that the music was so loud it made conversation difficult. A little pricey...
A simple change in our reservation from 2 to 3 people seemed to put the staff over the edge. It became an overly complicated situation that didn’t need to be, and we felt “punished” by the serving team for our request. The waitress seemed irritated and was very short in her communication with us. We waiting a long time for someone to even come take our drink order, and then another significantly long time to place our food order (we had to flag her down to ask). On the up side, the food came out probably quicker than it took to get our orders taken. The restaurant was not overly busy than a normal brunch scene. Additionally, the patio was closed for a “photo shoot”. A Sunday brunch timeframe seems like a poor time to schedule a photo shoot. Reserve that for a Monday in order to not disrupt your weekend business and patrons.
The unique aspect of this restaurant is they don't break it down into appetizers and main entrees, but with four of us, we shared almost everything. We loved the fries so much, we ordered two! They were hot, tasty, and cooked just right. We also had one of every dessert but the amazing one was the pudding/hazelnut. Oh my. The snapper was also delish. Everything was cooked just right. My only complaint is the noise level. I normally prefer quieter places, but this was pretty lively and energetic.
Room is very noisy. Forgot how loud the main room is. Eat in the back if that option is available
Friendly service and delicious food! We were there at happy hour and got to try different things: friend had a burger, I had the fish taco, we shared the kale salad, broccoli, and fries. All fantastic! My only issue was that the music was unnecessarily loud. But I’ll go back if I don’t need to have super engaging conversations with anyone.
Food and service was great, the ambiance was lovely, and it wasn’t too loud either.
Everything was great! Super chill NYE dinner. We usually go here for happy hours or special occasions. Friendly service. The food and drinks are delicious. The space is beautiful and it’s nice to just sit there for a while:)
Vibe is great. Food is Meh.
The oysters were sensational. I wanted to order another plate after finishing.
Had a couples date, 6 of us in total on a Saturday night. The atmosphere was really nice, and the decor was cute. Only thing that was a tad bit frustrating was the portion size for the price. But again, the food and the cocktails were tasteful and overall, date night was fun.
Ordinary food with really bad service. Not worth returning to.
My girlfriend and I both love seafood and this restaurant came up on my Open Table search. The menu online was quiet extensive with seafood options so I set the reservation. When we arrived and looked over the menu it was totally, totally different than the one online. They had only two seafood items and not a lot of other options. We were greatly disappointed and questioned why they had a menu online that didn’t reflect reality!
The small plates of food was okay. The waiter was friendly, but it took too long to get served when the place was half empty on a Friday night!
Have you ever spent a lot for dinner and left still hungry??
Thumbs down for this restaurant!
Always lovely. Perfect day on the patio.
Excellent ambience and venue, as well as extremely friendly and attentive staff.
My Bad! Never book a reservation on a weekend night unless you are going out for fun. The small menu is good and the staff is very good; however, the room is not for dining. The focus is is on the body shop part of the business.
Ran out of orange juice for mimosas. Then they got Us orange juice and it was no more than 2 tablespoons. It was not enough for even half of a mimosa let alone the entire bottle of Brut we bought for mimosa kit.
Nothing great and nothing horrible about this place, just ok
Overpriced food that was tasteless and uninspired. Cocktail menu was unappealing. Atmosphere is lovely, service was perfectly average. I'm not sure it stands out when there are so many other options in the area.
Joined a friend for their fabulous happy hour. We each ordered the half doz oysters with a glass of wine and then dove into fried chicken sandwiches. All of it was delicious and the services was fantastic. Not to mention the atmosphere is light and airy
I did not choose the location, it was a business meeting. It was not my taste in food. only item I was able to order from the lunch menu was the burger, everything else was way too trendy for my taste
Good food, very slow service took a long time to order food.
Sawyer was a perfect place to have an early dinner before seeing a play at The Fountain Theater. We sat on their beautiful outdoor patio which is a lovely space. Our waitress was very helpful with the menu and our timing since we needed to make an 8:00 pm show. The petters and lamb meatballs to start were good but not outstanding. We then had the spicy fried chicken, two of us had the salmon (which was delicious) and our fourth person had the burger with fries was delish. Definitely worth a return visit when we are in the area or seeing another show.
Great all around experience!
Great local restaurant. Only issue was that they have a full bar, but only serve beer & wine until 4 pm when the bartender arrives. We all really wanted bloody mary's w/our lunch, but had to settle for wine. That said, food was great as eas the service.
Love this place. A sister of Kettle Black with a very simple but perfect menu. Everything was seasoned well and the service was wonderful. From the one who greets me at front to our server. The back porch was divine. I enjoyed this place a lot and would definitely come back.
This is our favorite neighborhood restaurant. The food and service is always great and we love the space. We will certainly return here again.
Great for happy hour
Super cute restaurant. Food was delicious. In Silverlake, hip part of town.
Definitely a scene but also shatteringly loud inside. Fortunately in the back outside is a lovely garden patio with a very tasteful fire-pit. We were initially seated inside, asked for outside and were quickly accommodated. Service was very attentive and eager. Fish of the day was the standout for me, although my wife, not usually a fan of fried chicken, rated that the best dish. Hush puppies, non-traditionally sweetly glazed, were also a standout. The one disappointing dish was bland lamb meatballs. Cocktails were also excellent. Know that parking can be quite the challenge.
For the price and portion points, I prefer L&E. Snapper portion was a bit small for $28 and the lobster roll at L&E has better bread
Love the space, and the service was great. Menu is a bit limited and food is good, but not amazing. Seems like a great place to go for drinks if they have a happy hour.
Love the open windows and yard
Met with an old friend and had a great time! Amazing Happy hour menu!
love Sawyer. great ambiance, great interior. great food...only thing i'd suggest is including rice or a side with the salmon entree. also...i wish the beautiful patio was open during summer evenings. it's so pretty! oh, and i love the herringbone tiles in the bathroom, and the sinks.
food was good, service was good but it was way toooo noisy. guess it is more for the "younger" generation who can put up with the noise.
We tried Sawyer on the DineLA deal. We were told everyone at the table had to do the deal or no one could. We were also told we couldn't modify anything (one of the diners has a milk allergy but was unable to substitute the dressing or remove the cream from the dessert). If they don't want DineLA clients then maybe they shouldn't sign up for it. Also the food was just very average. Will not be going back.
