Sawyer Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
The 1st hostess that evening was very sweet who greeted. We arrived a bit earlier than expected and she directed us to the bar while we waited for our table. However, both the bartender and another 2nd hostess that evening stated the sits at the bar were reserved. I was quite confused. We later found out that it was because the 2nd hostess was reserving the sits for friends.
Was a Tuesday - so it was a little on the quiet side. Cocktails were really delicious and seasonal. Our food came out quickly (cause it was pretty quiet in the dining room).
The food here is so good. I was the only one who had been there before. The others in my group were all really pleased and would deffo go back again.
Don't go here unless you enjoy horrible deafening music with your meal. We will not return. Food and service were fine but the noise we were subjected to meant no conversation with our friends...if you are going to inflict that on your patrons, warn them so they can choose somewhere more appropriate.
Small Portions, Good Prices! Really great food. The service was great but busy. We did get charged an extra $80 that we had to point out to the server and he had to redo everything. But overall, we loved it.
Lobster roll! Not a lot of lobster but delicious none-the-less.
I love this restaurant. The space is comfy and the open window wall along Sunset brings only just enough of the outside in but gives a subtle outdoor eating feel. Their hush puppies are the BEST and service is always very warm and not at all overbearing.
Sawyer has a nice space with high ceilings and open front window. We started with Brussels sprouts and a smoke trout salad. Both were good though the salad had a bit too much dressing and the sprouts were a tad overpriced. We split the branzino for our main. The chef cooked the fish nicely with crispy skin and a light flakey meat. The rice underneath didn't inspire us to eat much of it. It had a nice sauce and chunks of mushrooms, but just wasn't that interesting. Unfortunately, the server brought the fish while we were only 3/4 of the way through our apps. I hate having to request the time to finish my starter before the main gets there, but I will if I return.
Was curious about this restaurant and very pleasantly surprised. Good food, good service- and reasonably priced for the quality of food- very flavorful and a greatly enjoyable experience. It was a bit noisy, but still a great experience. Definitely, definitely would go back. Would give it 5 stars out of five stars!!!!! A great place, and a treasure in Silverlake !!!!!
Food was off. Had the fried okra and snap pea toast for apps. okra was extremely tough (hard to believe it was served) and the snap pea toast was very limp with little flavor. we decided not to stay for main dishes. Service was excellent. Wine fantastic. Sadly, the food was disappointing.
Tried this neighborhood spot for brunch this weekend. Food was delicious! We had some fresh oysters which were fresh and plump. Perfect way to start the meal. I had the scramble which was basic but good - exactly what I was in the mood for. My Wife had the smoked trout salad which was both healthy and delicious. Bloody Mary was legit which is kind of my thing. Loved the wine too. Service was friendly, punctual and attentive. Would certainly return again - looking forward to trying the chicken and waffles.
Sawyer is walking distance from our house which we love. The last few visits, however, have been a bit underwhelming. The most recent dinner had a long lapse between starters and entrees, one starter missed entirely and that loud music that makes having a conversation nearly impossible. Love the food, though, which makes the other stuff frustrating. Want Sawyer to stay so hopefully we only hit a couple of off nights.
Candy Cane Beets were divine, and Shrimp + Grits are best I've ever had, AMAZING blend of flavors and textures. Grilled asparagus was undercooked and not very flavorful. Cocktail selections were unique and well prepared, but nothing knocks you out in the end, the flavor combinations were kind of muted. Wine choices also not very "inspired". Overall a good value for the money and friendly service.
Great service, great food. One of my favorite steaks in LA (and I'm a Texan :) Made to order (they serve a true medium), yummy juicy flavor, really pretty presentation. I like how the food isn't dripping in butter or olive oil. Quality ingredients and healthy. Cocktails are perfect - lots of flavor and amount of alcohol. The brussel sprouts are my fav as well. My gal group loved it. I'll be back.
