What Insiders Are Saying
Sardine is a very hip Shoreditch restaurant with a mural on the wall, a communal table, and an open kitchen serving southern French-inspired dishes.
Excellent food, great not intrusive service. Would return.
Excellent small restaurant:great food and super service!
Great experience. Small unpretentious restaurant in a quirky location that served fresh and exceptionally well prepared dishes. Friendly, professional staff who all seemed enthusiastic and happy to be there. Simple modern decor with open kitchen that created a warm, contemporary feel. A high quality to price ratio that leads me to say that Sardine outperformed many of those I consider to be its peers in the price range.
Was my friends birthday and we wanted to try somewhere new. This was a very unexpected and great find. Food was fantastic, great flavours all around, great portion size.
Great restaurant. Menu on the small side but some interesting dishes and all the food was excellent. Recommended
The vegetarian option was amazing - and I’m not even vegetarian.
The overall experience was good although i had a view facing the open kitchen and it was unpleasant to see the chef constantly eating. In any case, the food was amazing and the place is very cozy.
Had a fantastic fish dish for main. Staff were attentive and really helpful. We were there on a Tuesday in January at 7:30, so there weren't that many people there....but it did begin to fill up.
Delicious food, nice atmosphere, good service
Very tasty food. Kernel beer is very good. Pleasant buzzy atmosphere. Only issue was that we were served a little too quickly. We could have been in and out with two courses in well under an hour. At £35/head, that’s a bit quick unless you are looking for speed
Great Sunday night location, local with lovely food. Service is always attentive
We dined on Monday night as we knew that they did a £15 steak, potato and glass of wine offer. Whilst this wasn't immediately clear on the menu that it was available it definitely was and we enjoyed the well-cooked onglet steak, potato dauphinois and house red. We added a green salad to accompany it and finished the meal with some delicious cheeses and fortified wine. Staff were friendly, food was tasty and the bill didn't hurt. Overall a great night, would recommend!
Overall a bit disappointing. It took ages for anyone to come and take our order and the waiter didn’t ever seem too interested in wanting to impress. I ordered scrambled eggs which tasted food but had a number of egg shells in it and my friend ordered their version of a croque monsieur with sausage added but the sausage wasn’t in it when it arrived! It was also burnt in a number of places. Overpriced for the issues we had and poor service.
We were having a reunion with a couple of old friends from the US so we were slow at choosing our meal, a bit noisy and then slow to eat annd late to leave! However from start to finish the service was friendly and charming. The food was great - notably the brandade filled courgette flowers ( although only one helping available) and the amazing fig leaf icecream with roast figs. The seasonal negroni was also really notable. The bill does tot up a bit though for somewhere thats quite casual and understated. This doesn’t put us off going though and we have rebooked in a couple of weeks.
Nice food but quite limited portions for mains. Wine selection was good
Great little find with a really unusual and tasty menu. Onglet steak was delicious!
Food delicious, service good and nice vibe. Wine list a tad on the expensive side. Would definitely dine here again.
Delicious food and an interesting chilled red wine to accompany it!
Food and wine were divine. We just did not feel very welcome by the male manager who seemed grumpy. His female colleague, however, was smiley, friendly and helpful. Shame as this could have been a 5-star experience.
Great service and well prepared food make this a lovely restaurant to visit. The Petit Negroni cocktail was delicious.
Excellent find near old street - we visited for lunch midweek but will certainly be returning for an evening dinner one weekend. We we’re amazed at level of cooking and the menu, took us back to hols in a south of France!
Fantastic food, all very fresh, but the service was outstanding. Very busy, cool vibe - would highly recommend.
The food and the service were good but compared to its peers it is over-priced.
We've been to this neighborhood gem twice and enjoyed our meal both times. The chef did an excellent job in both presentation and substance. Service was attentive and professional. It can get a bit loud but no more than most places. Overall, a very positive experience.
The epitome of the Shoreditch vibe. Unfussy dining with a focus on high end food served in a contemporary canteen. The wood smoked burner adds significantly to the meats and fish flavours. I would not underestimate some pretty sublime tarts and cakes with excellent dessert wines to match. Well worth a visit
It is a bit hidden in Shoreditch / Old street. Food is very tasty and authentic French. Prices are a bit high but I think they worth it.
We turned up early but still nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent and no one batted an eyelid when I chose cheese omelette instead of a pudding. A great place for having what you want at your own pace.
Seated us very late. Was really really lovely food. Fantastic wine and brill martinis.
Just perfectly presented and cooked french Provençal cuisine.
Great place - food, wine, ambience, service and value for money all excellent.
5 stars! Amazing food with brilliant service! Thank you Sardine
We were here late on a Sunday after a performance at LSO St Luke's. The restaurant is in a slightly unprepossessing street opposite a MacDonalds. There was a youngish, trendy crowd loitering after dinner. Service was charming. A couple of items on the menu (which is not huge) had run out. Portions were on the small side but the cooking was very accomplished.
I booked for lunchtime get together with a friend having previously had dinner here.
I ate the rabbit whilst my friend had the beef cheek. He thoroughly enjoyed his meal whereas my rabbit on the bone was quite insubstantial (for the price of the dish) and as tender as I would have hoped. For dessert, we ate apple and rhubarb tarte tartin and calvados and quince ice cream. The tarte tartin was very nice and the ice cream was good but a little too sweet for my taste.
Service was first class and the staff were courteous, helpful and unobtrusive.
It’s a quite simple and lovely restaurants. Quiet and elegant. Like it.
TERRIFIC find. Went with two food writers and they are bith fans.
I am lucky enough to work around the corner! But would travel here to have their brunch in the weekend <3 Lovely spot, a real gem for the neighborhood.
Great food. Always delivers for taste and service.
With Southern-France inspired cuisine, a lovely room and great service, Sardine is a hidden gem situated at a mostly restaurant-free area. We had the gurnard fish, which was cooked perfectly, and with flavourful dressing. The peach ice-cream dessert was the perfect finishing touch to the meal, refreshing and fruity. We took advantage of a menu offer on Open Table which meant it was all very reasonably priced. The menu is well-priced for what it offers, but it's not cheap. Would return and recommend.
Delicious dishes and wine. Great ambience and space, feels cozy and the food is nice.
