Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar-Kapalua, Maui

Loved the lobster ravioli but extremely small portion for what you pay. Tasted great just not a good value. Very good Ca. roll. Everything else we mediocre sad to say. I have had better meals there. Brought my friend who was visiting the island and really wanted her to love our experience as I have had previously but it fell short.
I will give it one more try sitting at the sushi bar itself. Maybe it will be better than sitting at a table.

The beef Wellington is amazing.

An outstanding restaurant in every way. Wish we had something like this on the mainland. The one restaurant I look forward to every time I go to Maui. A can’t miss opportunity. Make multiple reservations. You won’t regret it

Food is amazing and our service was great. But the tables are so close together that you can practically “elbow” the people at the next table. And the noise level is very high.

We really enjoyed our evening. However, the waiter pushed ordering more courses than we wanted.

They were out of our drink and had no substitute for it, so we didn't order anything, I'm assuming that's why we had a "slower" service if I can say so

There is a price discount for the early bird to be seated by 5:30 and order by 6 p.m. We’ve skipped the early bird the past 2 years and are content to pay full price for a later eating reservation. We love the panko ahi and dynamite shrimp appetizers. Service was excellent.

Fresh, delicious, creative sushi and pan-Asian dishes. Huge menu with traditional plates if you don't want sushi. Try something unexpected, like the foie gras nigiri!

Very noisy and busy when we got there. We ordered a beer and a Cuba Libre, the Cuba Libre was very tasteless and watered down; our waiter replaced the drink with a glass of wine.
Service was slow to start. It was our first visit. Food quality was great. The mixed vegetable tempura was lacking in variety of vegetables. We were told that there would be a variety of vegetables. We specifically were looking forward to the sweet potato.
When we mentioned that we only got 1 piece of sweet potato that we were most looking forward to the waiter said more eggplant had been added. The waiter made no effort to rectify this issue.
The seared Ahi and Calamari Salad were fabulous, the Tempura was lacking, the Sansei special rolls were okay and the Carmel Apple Tart was good but could have used more apple.
Would have been a 4+ star experience with better Tempura and snappier service.

Have been to Sansei in the past and always thought the food was fresh, nicely prepared, and the service impeccable. Even though the service was still exceptional, the entire experience was different. We made reservations early to take advantage of the 25% discount they offer if seated by 6:00 p.m. We were disappointed in that the discount only applied to certain items not “asterisked” which amounted to 80% of the menu. Why advertise this deal if no deal is really in place?

Second, although the sashimi was fresh, the rest of our selections were just okay - nothing really special or extraordinary. I also found it interesting that very few people were in the restaurant, especially since other times we ate here, the restaurant was packed with long wait times to be seated. Overall, there are far better sushi places on the island that one should visit and leave Sansei out of your itinerary.

Sushi tasted fresh and was delicious. Rolls are over priced but it is Hawaii. Friendly service.

We met a couple on our volcano walk and they told us about a great restaurant for dinner. We took their advice and went to Sansei’s. Best restaurant on Maui. Starting with their pina colodas followed by seafood pasta, filet mignon and dessert of Granny Smith apple tart . Everything was outstanding including the server chris Sanchez. Ask for him if you’re at Sansei’s in Kapalua your dining experience will be enhanced with his knowledge. We’re returning in June with other family members and will be at Sansei’s a few times for an outstanding dining experience

My wife and I had reservations for 5:00 and arrived about ten minutes early to find a line of people already lined up at the door. However the hostess came out and explained about two lines, people with reservations and those without. Promptly at five the customers with reservations were seated first quickly followed by those without.
We were greeted at our table by Sonny our waiter who fully explained the menu, giving suggestions and clarifying how the early bird pricing worked. Most everything on the main menu was 25% off of ordered before 5:30. Sonny was great about getting our order in and then coming by again at 5:0 after the beginning of our food started to arrived to see if there was anything we wanted to add before the early bird ended.
We ordered two appetisers, the Hawaii ahi tataki and shrimp sunimono salad, the shrimp tempura plate (huge),
Maguro nigiri, the Sansei special roll and the shrimp tempura roll. Everything was fresh, well presented and delicious. Even if we hadn’t taken advantage of the early bird pricing the price was more than reasonable for the quality and quantity of the dishes we were served. We’ve eaten sushi from all over the country for more than 30 years (my wife for more than 40) and we are fairly picky and we couldn’t have been more pleased.
The person who made the evening perfect was our waiter Sonny who provided us with friendly, attentive, informed and friendly service, by far the beast we’ve had here on the island for the last 10 days and on the mainland for as long time. Thanks Sonny!

Thank you for helping us celebrate my husbands birthday

Very good! The manager was excellent at helping servers and everyone keep the food moving and making sure that customers were pleased.

Our second time to Sansei (Kapalua), which is saying something because it's an 18 hour flight to get here. Both times the service has been great, the food has been fresh and flavorful and the atmosphere has been vibrant, even if you've either got to get a reservation (hello, OpenTable) or wait a while. We had the Miso Butter Fish Appetizer on our server, Crystal's, suggestion and it was well worth it. Flavorful fish, crispy skin, rich sauce - if you like fish, and we hope you do if you're in a sushi place, this is a solid app for you. We also had the Spider Roll, the 69 Roll and the Spicy Hamachi Roll. All were good, no complaints on anything at all. We love sushi, we don't gripe about much and there was not a thing to complain about here. Make a reservation, book well in advance, be prepared to get notified your table is ready early just in case it opens ahead of time and come hungry.

Very disappointed in the quality, we’ve been coming here for many years and always thought it was first rate. Not on our last trip, we won’t be back for a while.

Simply our favorite restaurant in Maui. We were recently in Maui for 3 weeks and went to the Kapalua Sansei 3 times. This is absolutely the freshest fish on the island. Get there and seated by 5:30 and get 20% off. That makes it a very nice value as well as great food. Kids menu is available as well.

From the friendly hostess who seated us to the wait staff and manager, there was no one encountered that did not add to the evening. Everything served (dynamite shrimp, shichimi beef, etc) was hot, well-timed, and delicious. At no time did we feel rushed or neglected. Watching the expertise of the sushi chefs was quite educational. Will return, without fail, next time in Maui.

Valentines Day dinner out - we have dined here many times and the food is always outstanding! Tonight we tried a few new dishes - the sashimi trio and the ahi carpaccio- both were fabulous. We enjoy the early bird special although we always order too much food!

Delicious calamari, sushi and tempura, followed by scrumptious bread pudding. All that plus 2 glasses of wine for under $100 for 2 people - a good value for a Kapalua restaurant! We will return!

We’ve eaten at sensei many many times. We think this is the best sushi that we have ever Enjoyed. The wide selection of sushi, the preparations, the unique sauces are just absolutely wonderful.
