Manhattan Clam Chowder
Tomato-based little neck clam chowder with potatoes, vegetables and herbs
With cocktail and tartar sauces
Red kuri pumpkin puree with roasted Brussels sprouts, brown butter, sage and pomegranate reduction
Outdoor seating, beautiful ocean views. Excellent value for a nice seafood dinner. I get the chilled lobster roll with toasted bun.
Clam chowder is good, pairs well with sourdough baguette.
We frequent Sam's where we are on the coast.
They did the best with restrictions during these times. Eating in the parking is not ideal, but the food was as good as always. Isn't that why we go anyway?
The waitress was attentive as she be...we had to ask for water later and she brought it right out.
Sam’s Chowder House is one of my family’s favorite restaurants. Great food, drinks & view
Great service. Covid 19 safe. Food was great. Lobster roll had a generous amount of the meat.
I have not been here in few years, decided to go during covid, service was just ok, expected attentiveness. I was the first person seated, 2nd person seated was asked for their order before me. The food is usually tasty, it only tasted average today. The server was not very approachable or attentive. I have had good experiences, but today turned me off, don’t think I’ll be back.
Lobster roll was meh. Pretty flavorless and disappointing. Service was friendly, timely.
Food was excellent and everyone was friendly and accomodating
The food was overall fresh and delicious. Dine outside with social distancing and face mask was no problem with safety. Lobster roll , lobster cerviche , seafood spaghetti, clam chowder , and key lime pie were all yummy.
COVID-19 patio dining ... GREAT! Tables have good distance between them. Waitstaff minimizes visits to the table. Good posted rules - encourages masks even at the table if you aren't eating.
We've been honoring shelter in place pretty tightly, so getting a treat of eating in a restaurant patio was a risk for us ... thanks Sam's for reducing that risk.
and ... the food was wonderful too!
Very clean and staff very organized. Felt totally safe with all precautions they exercised while in this pandemic.
Staff was very nice and did an excellent job!
Food was not up to par. Wife got sick of the salmon. Menu was only half what they typically offer. They could serve oysters because they are raw but they could serve raw salmon. Doesn’t make sense.
Great to finally try Sam’s Chowder House. Dining was outside due to Covid. Not a problem. But it began to sprinkle. It put a little damper on things. But great food and service made up for some rain. Thanks
As expected the Clam Chowder was amazing! All of the sea food was fresh and had no "fishy" taste or smell that comes with less fresh items. Overall a great time considering the COVID restrictions.
We got lucky getting a reservation for the same day. With COVID, there's limited seating outdoors. They've took a portion of their parking lot to set up more tables and I feel they've gone to great lengths to make sure everyone is safe. If it rains, I don't know what they'll do because it's not covered but seeing all of the preparation to keep business going, I'm sure they've got a plan. You will be outside, with a beautiful ocean view so bring layers.
The ambiance rating of 3 is because we were in the temporary parking lot seating, and it was cold and windy. But heat lamps helped and tables were well spaced.
It was one more very pleasant & tasty stay with SAM's!!!
Thank you very much!
Everything was great!!!
It was a beautiful day, Noah’s suggestions and service were exceptional, the food delicious and the sanitation and table distancing were perfect. We were entertained by swarms of pelicans diving for food in the bay directly in front of us. Thank you, Sam’s Chowder House.
Lobster roll and a glass of white wine at Sam’s hits the spot every time!
Beautiful scenery, excellent food, and great place to take your family! The lobster roll and clam chowder were delicious!
Food was great. Staff was great. The weather was cool and windy and there were no heaters working - the only negative.
It was good, but our ciopinno was better at Ketch Joanne the next night. And the Manhattan clam chowder had one clam in it. It was pretty windy and cold, and even with down jackets on, we were cold. We asked if we could have a heat lamp brought over and were told there weren't any available. It looked like there were. The view is gorgeous! I was hoping for better quality, but I found it elsewhere.
First restaurant visit since March. Food and service was superb. Wife loved her prawns stuffed with crab. Covid safe outdoor dining.
They were set up really nicely for social distancing and the waiter was very cautious approaching the table. Each table had its own hand sanitizer for use. The service was
excellent and the food superb. It was a very nice experience and get away from the day to day quarantine experience.
Service was very good considering the Covid requirements.
The food was ok not great.. crab-cake a winner.
The hearing lamps need to be on earlier as it was chilly and windy which is good for Covid 19 but not so great for dining.
Nice thing is that it was not crowded... that is a plus. Distancing is actually a plus in a sense.. maybe i suggest hanging lights on all terraces to enhance the ambience... it helps.
The restaurant was busy and we were sat quickly when we arrived. It took awhile for the server to get to us, which was fine as he was busy. Out food came on time. It was good but not as great as I expected according to the reviews. The thing that was difficult was our server seemed to vanish after we were served and we had a very difficult time getting him to come when it was time to get our check. We asked 3 different employees who assured us he would attend to us but waited close to 20 mins standing by our table so we could pay our check. The meal was expensive, it was cold outside with no heaters. I am sure this is a great place but I cannot recommend it based on our experience.
We had a lovely dinner on the patio outside. The staff literally disinfected every table when turning it over. Service was great. Will definitely go there again
The New England Clam Chowder was absolutely delicious. They are handling the covid situation very well and efficiently. I felt safe, they are very organized and compliant. A wonderful afternoon out after months of being cooped up!
social distance protocols in place, service was fantastic, view gorgeous.. and the Lobster Roll... delicious!!!!
This restaurant has done a great job with social distancing dining. It seems everyone is on board and knows the drill. We caught a beautiful day on the deck. I used Open Table for a reservation. We arrived early and were seated within minutes. There are portable restrooms to use in the parking lot to ease the congestion in the restrooms inside inside.
The staff did a great job with check-in, thorough explanation of requirements to dine outside, lots of space between customer tables, hand sanitizer on each table and food is consistently delicious.
Great service and food.
Great location, lovely food, really careful with Covid precautions. This was our first meal 'eating out' since March and we felt very comfortable being outdoors & well spaced from other diners.
So disappointed! We’ve been huge Sam’s fans for years. Showed up early and was told we could keep our reservation OR go on the waiting list, but we couldn’t choose “whatever came first.” Okay. Strike one, ridiculously indifferent hostess with absolutely no regard for customer service. We waited, but reminded the hostess we didn’t want to sit in the parking lot and would wait for a patio table. When she paged us, there were at least 7 open tables in the area, but she sat us right above (little hill) another table that was seated. Definitely not practicing social distancing. We asked if we could move to one of the other tables with a little more space from other diners. We were told that it require that they “re-clean” the table that they were trying to seat us at? Okay - the one we never sat at and was much closer than 6 ft. from the other guests. Makes no sense. It was such poor customer service and lack of thoughtfulness with regards to COVID-19, we left after waiting 40 minutes to be seated. It’s really unfortunate that a couple hostesses could sabotage such a time-honored restaurant. Hope they’re still around when normal dining can be resumed. :-(
We love Sam’s! We make the drive from Vacaville just for their lobster rolls.
Our daughter requested lunch at Sam’s for her 16th birthday. She loves the calamari.
We were really impressed with all of the precautions they had in place in response to Covid. We felt it was a very safe environment to dine out.
Our server was excellent as was the food of course.
Excellent food, beautiful setting, great service! Adheres to all epidemic safety measures. Very enjoyable experience!
An absolutely delightful and delicious lunch to celebrate my birthday! The excellent seafood, outstanding service, and beautiful views combined to make a memorable treat.
Wonderful experience. Great COVID 119 precautions in place. Excellent food. Great service. Very relaxing. Had a 2 seat counter table facing the beach.
We ate dinner at Sam’s two nights I a row. The food was beyond good and we felt very safe the whole visit. The service was excellent both times as well. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is considering a visit.
Nothing special but nothing bad. Service was great and salmon burger was seasoned amazingly
