Vacation dining- very good
The scenic coastal view and the Fish n Chips with coleslaw must be the finest in the Bay Area!
SAM's has been my favorite local restaurant for years, but not this time. We went on a Monday night because it's usually less crowded. This time I ordered the crab cakes - one of my usual favorites. They were really poor- tasted like they been frozen and thawed too long or something. The oil they'd been fried in wasn't fresh, tasted old. Even the remoulade sauce was not up to the usual SAM's quality. Maybe they use the old stuff up on Mondays? I left wishing I had returned my meal. So sad because usually I love SAM's.
Great waitress, pleasant but the wine list could have been better. Not many selections and the one we wanted that was on the menu they didn’t have
I took my grandson for his 12th Birthday. He loved it! Thank you!!
Nice place, beautiful location, large quantity of food.
Perfect on a warm sunny day.
The food was great! Took my brother there for his birthday... it was his first time and he loved the food. Our server was super friendly!
Ocean view and lobster roll was fantastic!
Loved the service from the moment we arrived-so friendly and attentive. Great chowder! Perfect walk after lunch along the easy access beach. Will be back!!
Lobster Sandwich and Ahi Burger were terrific. Service was excellent & timely. She guided us through menu options/choices in a very positive fashion.
Great seafood had the mussels and seafood salad both were great.
Lunch lobster roll was tasteless and on toasted hard roll.
Love this restaurant. We were early for our reservations and they accommodated us. - usually great service. The only problem we had is after purchasing a fairly expensive bottle of wine the server spilled about a third of a glass on the table....and just left it for us to clean up.
We had a reservation, but got lucky enough to catch bar-like tables along the outdoor patio so we could directly overlook the bay/ocean. Even though it was bright and sunny, it was so beautiful and so much fun to watch the marine activity. We saw sea lions? or was it a couple of seals? splashing up a storm eating something...we think. The birds were going crazy trying to get the leftovers. Our waiter was so attentive and friendly. For as busy as they were, our order was taken very quickly and the food followed up quickly also. Clam Chowder...soo good, the consistency was perfect. We also had lobster rolls each. The lobster was incredibly soft. I would have preferred more butter...probably should have asked for a ramekin full of butter to dip in, but it was delish. Leftovers the next day still seemed fresh. Bay fries, too! ...and there probably was supposed to be a green salad in there, but why ruin a perfectly good comfort food meal?? Really, everything was very, very good. It was our last stop in our visit to Half Moon Bay and it really topped it off perfectly. I would highly recommend. We had a perfect weekend. Thank you.
I've been here a few times now and have never been disappointed. The seafood is outstanding.
Impeccable...words cannot describe the setting the food the ambience..... you just have to go.
Their clam chowder was very good!
I also enjoyed their cioppino (although a little salty) and lobster roll. They didn't ask if we had a special occasion (birthday), we had our dessert somewhere else. But overall, the food was very good. And service was good. The guy who took our emptied soup bowls asked if we wanted more bread, thanks to him, the cioppino didn't taste too salty after we dunked our bread.
First time at Sam's...we will return...Food / Service excellent!!
My wife and I have always found Sam’s Chowder House a pleasant dining experience. The seafood is always fresh and will prepared. The staff is always attentive and friendly.
Excellent New England style clam chowder. Fish and chips was good, also.
Great place for food and an awesome view. Parking is a bit of a challenge...especially on the weekends
Sam's is always a great meal in a great location. We will be back again and again.
Despite this being a busy, crowded tourist and local spot, we were pleasantly surprised at the quality of both service and food. Shared a bowl of excellent clam chowder that was so huge it could have served 4 people; also shared the petrale sole--delicious and came with great steamed spinach and potatoes; also shared a generous side of the best ever roasted creamed corn-- definitely a must. Regret we didn't get the name of our waiter as he was outstanding-- friendly, knowledgeable, and just made the evening that much better. Love the casual atmosphere with such an extensive menu.
Meeting friends and family and got seated right next to a sliding door that leads outside - we thought it was like being seated in an enclosed porch. A glass of wine got spilled on our table and no one at Sams took notice. Probably because of the obnoxious family next to us, but when you bring the check and their are three purple napkins on the table a good waiter would at least ask, right? I had to grab napkins from the next couple tables to avoid all of us at the table ending up as purple as the napkins I describe. I have been going to Sams for as long ad they have been in business. The last 2 times I have been there (9/24 and 8/5) it seems things have changed and nit for the better. Hope this is just a hi-cup as they change hands.
The food was very tasty and well presented. Service was friendly and efficient. I recommend going to Sam's but booking a reservation 2 days in advance on sunny weekends.
Outstanding experience as a first time customer. Great food, service and view of the Pacific Ocean. Our server, Monique, was especially fantastic. I will return again. Highly recommended.
Great as always!
Totally loved the food! Lobster roll was amazing! Not sure why we needed reservations since they didn’t ask if anyone had any. There was a huge crowd before it opened but no one ask. I guess it’s really just first come first served.
We recently spent a week on the Monterey Peninsula and their food is incredible BUT...on the way home we wind our way through HMB simply for a dinner at SAMS. Thank you for your continuous AWESOME food.
Sam's never disappoints. We love to come here even if it's just for wine on the back patio, watching the pelicans. The food is always delicious and well-presented. The menu is varied enough to suit a multitude of tastes. We bring guests here because the view is superlative and the food is the same.
Love, love, love Sam's!!! We lived in Boston a long time ago and always love coming to Sam's to bring back the memories of Boston and the delicious east coast seafood!!!
The food was way below their norm. Soggy lobster roll that crumbled apart the second you picked it up. The best presentation of the food was sloppy.
Usually, Sam's is a reliably good meal and value. Not this time. We arrived a few minutes early for a 7 pm reservation, got a couple of drinks from the bar (happy hour half-priced), were seated just before our reservation time, and received prompt and courteous service. However, the food was very disappointing. The lobster in the naked lobster roll was not fresh and quite rubbery. The roll was stale and broke apart into a million pieces. The coleslaw was watery and too sweet. My wife's sole was overcooked and served over a bland watery sauce with fingerling potatoes and sweet peas that were undercooked. The strawberry and rhubarb crip was runny, and topped off with butterscotch ice cream (not vanilla bean as the menu stated). Butterscotch ice cream is delicious but does not belong on top of that dish. With tips (we didn't hold the waitress responsible for the terrible food), our bill came to $140. I've had far better meals at half that price. Very very very disappointed.
We were there at the end of the day. I specifically put on the OpenTable that it was our Anniversary. They did nothing. Not a word, desert nothing! What is the use of putting this on the reservation if no one looks at it? Service was very slow.
We just enjoyed ourselves. The ladies that greeted us and the wait staff were all lovely. It was a farewell dinner and my sister enjo7herself.
Awesome lobster roll! Exceeded my expectations!
This place is amazing! So crazy busy. Great views of the bay and chowder to write home about.
We went to Sam's for a late anniversary celebration. The food was delicious, the portions were generous and the server was amazing. We plan to go back again in the near future and bring family with us. Loved it!
The clam chowder and fish and chips were very good. A great place right on US1 and the water.
