I made reservation and let them know it was our anniversary. Both the hostess and our waitress greeted us with Happy Anniversary.
Waitress was very attentive but not overly. Food was amazing and large portions of seafood. Hot bread was given while we waited for our meal. Waitress surprised us and said she was taking care of our dessert. And we could have our choice. OH MY YUMMY.
Fabulous Service! Chandra is the best!!!!
A delightful dinner, with a gracious, friendly server.
way to expensive for the amount you get. Our group though the food was just ok, none of us would go back.
We enjoyed the live reggae style music and an outside table with a beach/ocean view on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The Sam's New England style clam chowder is superb! (Not thick because flour and/or corn starch are not added) The beet salad was fresh with local ingredients - strawberries, wild arugula, endive, toasted pistachios, and feta cheese. The lobster roll (naked) lived up to our expectations of being the best on the west coast. The salmon burger and ahi tuna burgers were only okay. The fish and chips at a nearby table looked delicious.
Be prepared for a long wait. We waited about an hour and had requested an outdoor table with an excellent view - which was on our Open Table reservation and we told the waitress when checking in . After our wait, we were given an indoor table with a view of the backs of the band members, but we restated our request and did get reseated to a table in a great outdoor location.
More restrooms, especially for women, are needed. It would also be great to have a gender neutral restroom and/or a family restroom. Perhaps an addition would be possible?
There is a cute gift shop featuring local crafts and jewelry, plus don't miss the outdoor flower shop that has flowers grown and arranged by people with disabilities.
Fantastic meal on our 28th Wedding Anniversary! Walked over from Oceano Hotel in 10 minutes. Beautiful walk along the coastline.
The view is amazing, even on an overcast day. The seafood is fresh and abundant. The atmosphere is harried but fun. It’s a great restaurant with great food. Try the lobster roll!
Great place to meet friends and relatives. Good food and service.
New England clam chowder was very good. The water view is best if you sit outside.
Once again this place was amazing m. Food was great and the service was fabulous.
The dinner with wine was very pleasant. We came here for oysters and fish. The chowder was good but could be hotter. Young adults would enjoy the atmosphere and the outdoors especially.
Sam's never disappoints. The food is always fantastic and the atmosphere is perfect for waterside dining!
The calamari was very, very tiny, and most of it were crumbs. The 'Ahi ' tuna burger was just a big lump of fish patty that was very overcooked, and the sides were very burned. The burger buns were also very, very, very oily and soggy as well. We have been to Sam's Chowder House several times, but this was the worst dining experience we have ever experienced and we will not think about going back ever again.
We just came for lunch 1st time it was very busy, I’m sure that was good for them. They have quite a area of different seatings. The fish and chips were ok but I do like them a little more crispy. I also think that the additional server that came out of the blue wasn’t very helpful. Not sure why she even helped out. We left the original server a good tip regardless.
Always enjoy coming here. Food is consistent and love the location
Food was great. Views were lovely. Staff was very nice.
I could not give a positive review at this time. I had the Manhattan clam chowder and it was the worst I've ever had. Our waitress wasn't very good. Kept passing us by at every turn. I did not leave a tip.
Great food, service, & view! We started with some oysters, which were delicious. Their clam chowder was unique and not your typical super creamy a thick chowder. The seafood risotto was incredible.
This was recommended to us and we are glad we stopped in. Made a reservation on the way and arrived to be seated at an outdoor table as we requested. As other reviewers mentioned, parking is tricky. We parked along the main road and walked. The clam chowder is good, but on the thin side. The Lobster roll is worth the price! Lobster is literally overflowing out of the bun. We would definitely go again!
I enjoyed the Lobster Roll I had for lunch. It was delicious! Service was great! Had an ocean view from my seat by a window. Even though I was alone, I totally enjoyed the experience. I'm glad I arrived super early for my Open Table reservation because there was not a single empty parking space in the lot. For ten or fifteen minutes, I had to sit in my car and wait for someone to leave. I would do it all again!
Fresh fish. Inspired menu choices. We enjoyed our meal so much. Down to earth and thoughtful service.
Best dinner ever! I can't have shellfish, but the halibut was AMAZING!
Loved eating at Sam’s Chowder House. Not only was the view breathtaking, but the food & service was impeccable!
Just didn’t live up to the hype. Lobster ceviche was good but everything else was very mediocre and/or lackluster. Lobster rolls... under seasoned and overcooked. Bread was too crusty. The fries were all soggy. Nothing to write home about
I've been here many many times. Love the view, the setting and everything outdoor side of the restaurant. The cocktail was mediocre (its been like that lately) and lobster role was great but dumped in too much butter. everything else perfect
Enjoyed the awesome taste of the entire meal that we ordered with the outstanding view of the beach, marina, & ocean. It will be a come back especially, during warm weather.
Lobster ceviche was outstanding, light with an excellent dressing. Full of lobster!
This is OUR spot when we go out to the coast, especially for lunch. We love the outdoor seating whether it is warm and sunny or overcast and cool as it was the day we went. The glassed in patio area eliminates the wind and heaters (if needed) make you comfortable.
Our server Stacy was very personable and clued us into the French Roses currently on the Wine List, we opted for the Minuty which was my wife's favorite (but she gave us a taste of the Miravel, which I liked better myself). They had a great salmon special appetiser, sort of a ceviche with corn, grilled avocado, salmon, and a little jalapeno - really good. I had the Shrimp scampi and linguine which had a great buttery sauce and my wife opted for the steamed Manila Clams with linguine which had a nice peppery broth. We have never been disappointed here. Always lots of fresh seafood to pick from. The sourdough bread is great. My wife finished up with an Irish coffee. We enjoyed a nice leisurely lunch watching the boats and the seabirds.
Great view, great food, ok service
This is one of our favorite restaurants. We celebrated my husband’s birthday and as always the food was delicious & the ambiance was wonderful on a beautiful day in Half Moon Bay!!!
Nothing special about this place. Loud, noisy, hot, and crowded. Food was average tasting at best. Typical chain restaurant. We expected more since it was recommended by a few people. We have no desire to ever return. Our server was great, but that was the only good point of our visit.
Absolutely phenomenal service and the food was so good! The waiter had great recommendations and the atmosphere was awesome. There was also a nonprofit flower booth with very reasonably priced mixed bouquets of Beautiful sunflowers and snapdragons
Food and ambiance were great. Service was good. However, it was somewhat overpriced.
Dinner was okay. Noisy. Service was good. Expensive.
We've been coming to Sam's for many years now and we've never been disappointed! Fantastic food with a great selection including dishes for folks that do not eat seafood. The only knock is that it tends to get crowded and the parking lots all fill up rather quickly. But with patience and a reservation, you'll find a spot to park and be seated at a nice table with a great view of the ocean.
Best Lobster Roll on the West Coast. Period. Other items that we have enjoyed are very good too!
The view was amazing, the food was delicious! I had the Naked Lobster Roll and it was so worth it! Everyone else also enjoyed their food: New England Clam Chowder, Fish & Chips, Kids spaghetti and Mac n Cheese!
I like Sam’s but this night was not great. I love the setting but service was slow. As usual the food it was good but a little pricey.
Bar area was great - good happy hour deals! While the view was absolutely gorgeous, the service was fun/upbeat/very personable, the food left much to be desired. The Gumbo was basically flavorless; the dressed lobster roll was ok... but nothing to rave about. The gumbo was so flavorless I chose not to eat it and the waitress was kind enough to remove it from our bill without our asking. Shrimp linguine was also pretty flavorless. Guess it's all about the view and the experience!
