Perfect For:

Salut Bar Americain - St. Paul is the brasserie down the block. Warm and welcoming, with an urbane wit and urban sensibility, it’s an afternoon hangout and an evening refuge. It’s your neighbor with a French accent. The setting evokes a classic Parisian bistro/restaurant. The service is spirited, confident and capably executed. And the cooking captures the freshness and hearty flavor of French cuisine. It’s the vibe inside that sets Salut apart from bowing maitre ‘d’s and sniffing sommeliers. From the welcoming wine list, to the playful décor, to the genial buzz in the dining room, and two Event Spaces, Salut celebrates the French restaurant’s essential qualities while dispensing with the exclusionary ones. It demystifies French food by making it accessible and rewarding while poking fun at the stereotypes that surround it. In this sense, Salut is a dual citizen: Authentically French! Book the Le Grand Boeuf family-style feast, serving 8-10 people.

Had a very good meal with my two teenagers. My only complaint is I ordered my steak medium rare and it was more medium well. If you order a nice steak or piece of meat it is a shame to over cook it

The waitress was pleasant, but it was at least 20minutes before we got our first drink - got the seafood tower 10 minutes before they arrived. My dessert came 15 minutes before the other 2 people at the table got theirs. If we had been in a hurry or crabby, it wouldn't have gone well. Been there many times, but won't be back if I have other options.

Sent the calamari back. Never done that in all the years we’ve been going there. Second try was better, hot, but not like it used to be. Entrees were sub par. Medium burger was well done and had been sitting under heat lights for a long long time, waiting for what? My wife’s salad? A burger waits for a salad? Fries were dregs of the batch.

Had dinner here with a group of friends. Service was good. The food was plentiful and tasty. Nice variety of options. The French fries were especially good as was the egg on the crab cake Oscar. Sound level allowed for easy table conversation.

We absolutely loved our experience at Salut! Ashley was so helpful and friendly, the food was delicious, we could actually hear each other in conversation and we will be back. The only suggestion we could offer: For those who enjoy a glass of wine with dinner, a 6 or 9 ounce option would be lovely.

The restaurant was busy but not unduly so as we were on the early side. However, our waitress paid little attention to us. We asked for a few more minutes to look over the menu and she didn't come back for almost 15 minutes and only after we sort of flagged her down. (Because we were two women and most of the rest of the crowd was couples???) I ordered tuna and asked for it medium. I like my tuna cooked through, eve though I know the "rule" is rare. When it arrived, it was rare and the blood on the plate turned my stomach and I was unable to eat my meal. By the time the waitress came to inquire how everything was, my dining companion had almost finished her meal. It wasn't worth trying to have anything done with my food by then so I just had it boxed up. It's in my refrigerator. Maybe my husband will eat it...

We went to Salut for Easter brunch. I was surprised to get a reservation for brunch a few days before Easter, but I’m really glad it worked out. They sat us early and the buffet was delicious and worth the money. Even though it was a buffet, our server was great. Would recommend!

We went for Easter brunch with my senior citizen mother. The quality of the food exceeded all of our expectations - truly delicious, even in a buffet format (hard to pull off). Everything was fresh, the steak and chicken were tender and not overcooked, the "mini croque madame" sandwiches were fantastic. Hats off to them for having authentic French bread! Very nice and attentive wait staff, festive but not too loud atmosphere, perfect for the occasion. Slightly pricey for a buffet brunch, but worth it!

stopped in after a local show, had reservations but not needed, was sat quickly, but waited almost 10 minutes to see a waiter, once he found us the service was good, my wife and I both enjoyed our food choices.. A bit on the high side price wise but, the food has always been awesome..

Our friends (who drove in from Plymouth, MN) were notably impressed with the attentive service and ambiance. My wife and I would add that the food (I enjoyed the generous and spicy lamb special) were my wife and my high points as well.

Salut on Grand is still my favorite place to go, and has been for many years. I love how they manage to hold on to really good employees for many years, it shows in the great service you get there.

My kale salad was quite tasteless despite the addition of "sweet walnut" beet and feta cheese, as advertised. It sounded like and appeared as if it would have wonderful flavor, so what a surprise once I took a bite. It seriously had almost no flavor, it was so uninteresting, with little flavor of any of the ingredients at all. I couldn't believe it didn't taste like anything. I didn't finish it. My boyfriend and his brother ordered the same item for their dinner, which was one of the specials that night. Lamb. It was very spicy once they tasted it, and they were not forewarned about that on the menu nor by the server. My boyfriend just pushed his food around the plate. Too spicy to eat, but he forced some of it down. He commented that there was barely any lamb itself in the dish, and the appearance of the plate resembled a bowl of mush. He never criticizes anything but that's what he said to me. The lamb, all cubed up and tossed in with the rice, rather than being served cleanly, next to it on a plate was a bad presentation for a featured special. His brother didn't mind the spice as much as my boyfriend, but he said his meal tasted fair at best. We felt the price was very expensive for a meal none of us was at all happy with. 3 people, $177 which did include 4 drinks and our generous 20% tip despite the food experience. Very disappointed, as we enjoy the other location at Edina and have been there many times.

Always a great choice in the Crocus Hill neighborhood. The large menu has something for everyone, from burgers to salads to steaks. The service is always good, and the ambience is wonderful. Can't wait for warmer weather and the patio!

All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. I had the kale and quinoa salad which had tasty elements but I would have plated them differently. The baby kale with the stems were sometimes awkward to eat without cutting. I would have preferred having the quinoa served on the side. Their flavor and crunch got lost when they were mixed with the greens.

I would perhaps select a different salad next time.

Always enjoy a meal at Salut. A surprise this time was that they charge for their excellent bread now. I'm ok with that. But when asked, our waiter brought a small portion - not the full mini-baguette of the past. "Charge ok; but then bring a full serving!" my lunch companion cried.

We have been coming here since the first night they opened in St. Paul. I think we have had 1 meal here that wasn’t consistently great. Service is always great and I know that if we go for dinner we will be very pleased with our meal and our choices. It is nice to have a neighborhood restaurant that is an easy choice.

I love this restaurant. I’m French and it’s nice to have similar dishes growing up with or similar taste. The food is great and the ambiance is good. I’ve celebrated or had a lot of dinner dates with my husband or brunch with girlfriends and it’s always been a favorite of mine.

The food was very good, but our waitress was only fair. Unfortunately we were seated near the kitchen/prep area where there was a lot of traffic and commotion. I have been to Salut before and even tho it was very busy, the service was much better. I plan to dine at Salut again despite this less than stellar visit.

Very disappointing for the second time. Service was non existent food was sub par. I had the worst Cesar salad I have ever had. The lettuce was brown and I have had better salad dressing at Perkins. I am assuming we got poor service, bad food, and a Horrible table in the back room because it was Valentines Day. This restaurant used to be one of our favorites.

Our second visit and equal in quality to the first. Food was very good although my apple pastry dessert was NOT. Service is exceptional; our server was knowledgeable and when she couldn't answer a question, she found someone who could. The bar is great, stylish and staffed by excellent bartenders. We made the mistake of ordering rail drinks and were disappointed in the quality of their house gin. Our bad. The martinis we usually order are well made but the generic ones are mediocre at best. Still one of our favorite places to eat and have a drink.
