Fish was fantastic. Service was great.
Brunch was good but nothing insanely exciting about it. Usual fare. The breakfast bowl was good and the dressing was fantastic. Service was impeccable I will say. Never worried about empty drinks and never waited longer than a minute at all. Cool location, beautiful bar, great ambiance. Love old buildings like this.
Great food and presentation. I order the Red Snapper and was amazed to see it come to the table. I didn’t realize it was the whole fish standing up on my plate fried…..Totally Awesome!
Could not believe how overpriced the “market priced” items were. $85 for a fish entree!?
Cold booth, had to wear a coat (inside). Blackened Mahi was not spicy at all, desserts were horrible, almost like the chef was experimenting and failed.
The food was below standards for the 3rd consecutive time, the calamari was chewy, the cheeseburger was salty and under cooked. The service was fine but kitchen was less than stellar. I only enjoyed the soup for a 100.00 ticket
Post Pandemic Saltine has been a disappointment from an execution perspective,
This was our 4th time there for Thanksgiving and it is always a great experience! Our waiter Mike was exceptional even though he was new to the restaurant, he was very knowledgeable and kind and funny. If you ever need plans for Thanksgiving dinner, Saltine is the way to go!
Drinks were good! Food was good! Oysters were clean and main courses excellent. Only criticism was the creamed spinach was over salted.
My salad was salty and my boyfriend’s chicken was burnt.
Cameron was great and the filet was incredible!
We had a lovely evening with old friends. Our food was delicious and delivered in a timely fashion. The wait staff was courteous and efficient, but gave us plenty of space for conversation. My only regret is that I’d didn’t have room for dessert.
Great looking place. Staff was overwhelmed and needed support. Food was decent but not worth what they charged for it. Beer menu was lacking.
Saltine delivered a wonderful dining experience. I reserved w/ a credit card on a busy Friday night. I was promptly seated. My server was very pleasant and enthusiastic. I ordered a cup of She-Crab soup, Rockfish w/lumped crab meat and a side of roasted root vegetables (which were heirloom carrots) w/ a savory yogurt sauce. The Rockfish was a fresh, catch of the day, choice which can be blackened or bronzed. The bronzed preperation is what chose. The fish was seasoned w/ savory (not spicy hit) cajun spices that were well-balanced in terms of prominence.
My Rockfish came on a bed of hominy succotash.
The whole entrée was delicious! The heirloom carrots were very flavorful and a nice addition to my meal. My server checked on me periodically and in an appreciably subtle way.
Admittedly, the meal was more expensive than I will usually pay. It was, however, an outstanding meal and dining experience!
Service was fantastic but our server was not the cook. flavor in most of the food.
Food was missing character
Saltine is a very original restaurant in found in the center of a vibrant emerging city. The food was excellent, and the fact that they had 5 selections for their fresh catch of the day (including cobia) was not expected. The drink selection was as creative as any we've seen on the East Coast, and the oysters are as expected, very fresh and come in an excellent array of choices. Our server was very professional but also warm and friendly.
Food was perfect, the crab soup, the bronzino, the rockfish... and our waitress very nice, and help us when the wind proved our chose table was not the right option...
I think her name was Ana..
We'll come back for sure in our next trip to Norfolk
We enjoyed our date nite at Saltine as we stayed at the Hilton. The lobster was great! But expensive. Be prepared to spend over $220.00. The short rib was seasoned to perfection, but came out more on the Luke warm side. They need to work on their timing in the kitchen.
Waited 2 hours to get some truly awful food. Cool looking place but this was one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had.
Expensive and mediocre food with limited lemur
One of the worst dining experiences I (we) have had in years. We tried Saltine about 5 years back and were disappointed then. Thought given their reviews, they must have improved. No. They are worse now than before. The noise level was much too high. The restaurant was cold. The meals (scallops and snapper) were just a mix of flavors that overwhelmed the seafood. The service was absolutely lousy. And the desert was terrible - which after we tried it (only took one bite each), our server informed us it was a trial item. I guess we were the guinea pigs.
The service from Marco was first rate. He answered all of our questions and provided samples of the draft beers which aided in my guest's selections. The food was magnificent especially the 24 hour short ribs which were the best I've ever had. We could tell that there was quite a bit of attention to detail paid to both the preparation and presentation from appetizer to entrees. My friends from Baltimore noted that the ultimate crab cake was as good as what they get at home and the raw oysters (Havens and James River) made the meal very special indeed. Yet another outstanding dining experience at Saltine!
Everything was outstanding. Service was really exceptional. Food was fresh, prepared well, delicious, presented perfectly. Will definitely go again when the occasion arises.
We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the time that we were able to spend together.
Excellent dining experience!
Great first visit. Food was great but getting the food was extremely slow. New menu had a great selection.
Awesome dessert great meal can't wait to return
Went for Sunday brunch. Good variety, including options from the oyster bar. We had chicken & waffles and crab benny. Both delicious. $2 mimosas and bloody marys.
Exceptional food and an incredibly attentive and accommodating wait staff. We were tight on time and had someone with an onion allergy. Our server made sure to attend to both without being put-off and the food and wine were outstanding! Will definitely return to this restaurant.
Both our meals were cold except for the french fries
We were seated quickly and it was a very pleasant experience. Our food arrived in good order and was very tasty.
Service was ok, appetizer was fine, but main dish and dessert were pretty low quality. It seemed the meal were frozen food from grocessary store. Our first and last time there.
Great restaurant, delicious food. Very noisy inside but calmer outside.
Like always the experienced was wonderful. The food was delicious and the service was excellent.
Excellent service, food was very good, ambiance is also very good.
Asked a waiter for a straw; he succinctly ignored me after acknowledging my request. Later, he was murmuring to himself - I'm assuming some mental health issue...not the type of individual I'd see myself hiring to be in the presence of food consumption.
The seating was awkward at best. No privacy. Enjoyed listening to a couples quarrel for about an hour before they retired.
Excellent food portions. Food definitely came out less than room temperature; delicious nonetheless.
Overall, especially since "reservations" seem mandatory, this establishment presents itself with all the priciness and pretention of a New York fine dining establishment, but retains the ubiquitous faux, high quality dining experience found on this swampy peninsula.
Guess I better plan on leaving...
Service was disappointing. We had to ask our waitress 3 times to please bring the bread and everything took sooo long. Even our drinks! The noise level on the streets was horrible! We left after our appetizers which were not great. The shrimp was disappointing and the Brussels sprouts were over cooked.
Service attended was kind and knowledgeable.
But his service was to stretched out, maybe because lack of help. So everything was delayed.
Calamari was something found at your local fast food restaurants.
Small and mostly crumbs.
After attended took our calamari back and we orders 8 count butterfly shrimp x3 orders. No apologies for delay discount of any sort.
Good service not the best food.
Atmosphere was great. Service was good. Food was average and overpriced in my opinion.
food was not flavorful at all. multiple meals where sent back
