Salacia Prime Seafood and Steaks
This was my anniversary dinner. Reservation was made in March. They closed for renovations and never let me know they had cancelled my reservation. INCREDIBLY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!
At one point we had 4 diamonds steak restaurant in Virginia Beach - Salacia.... Not anymore! The menu changed so much, that there is almost nothing you can choose of...and also we told they are planning to “simplify the menu“ even more. The quality of food , such as lobster bisque - was very thick without any taste and cold; lobster teriyaki - very small pieces with a lot of dough; meet, potato - were cold... The food was very overpriced!!! Hopefully, at one day we will have back our Salacia...Good luck Chef!
Michael was our waiter and he was very helpful. We shared a steak and sides and it was plenty of food. The steak could have been warmer but we chose not to complain, it was cooked to perfection. This is a great restaurant to go to if you are celebrating a special occasion.
I called to make reservations for 2 plus a highchair. When I arrived they said kids must be over 7 years old. My child is 2. It took a conversation with the host but they did seat us. Other than the initial mixup everything turned out ok.
Best steaks and service in VA Beach. Mike, our waiter, did a great job and everything was perfect. We'll definitely be back.
We have eaten here several times over the years and although the food quality and service seem to remain consistently good, the operation isn't as impressive as when it first opened --- it is definitely not a memorable dinning event that one would expect for the price.
Though the service and food were good, they were overshadowed by the comfortable closeness of the tables for 2. You couldn't help to overhear and be heard by your neighbor. Overall quite noisy. The $32 price for the SMALL add on lobster was excessive. The beer was warm and the bread was not. The ladies room was a mess and out of paper. Not exactly a fine dining
What happened? The service was subpar. It took quite awhile to order and they were out of several main entrees. We had to ask for alcohol and our appetizers were on the table before we ordered our main course. Will not go back again and we have been going we quite some time.
Ordered the Delmonico steak, it came out cold. Ordered truffle mac and cheese, there were no truffles. The creamed spinach was awful, actually inedible. My steak was simply cooked on a flat top and had no flavor. Oysters rock was bland, rubbery and horrible. Ordered bottle of wine and the first 2 that were on menu were not available, this isn't a big deal just another reason to be unhappy. I was a return customer. This visit was terrible and I will not be going back. I have already told several friends to go somewhere else. It is sadly a big let down of what it previously used to be.
I was referred by a friend to come to this establishment for my girlfriend birthday. First issue, the waiter was perceived to not be attentive to my girlfriend and I. Second issue, it smelled like cigarette smoke where we set. Third issue, I had a piece of hair embedded in my filet mignon (Oscar) entree and the loaded bake potatoes was over cooked. The waiter took our entrees back to the kitchen and we waited an additional 30-40 minutes to get fresh food, however we missed our movie because of the inconvenience. I was slightly disappointed because I was trying to impress my woman on her special day! I was discounted for 2 affordable drinks and a dessert I would never had order. After all that the waitress ran out of salacia to put her middle finger up, no I left no tip!!! Can corporate contact me please
Bonzino fish was delicious —was a little bony but great flavor. Husbands steak was good not excellent as you would expect. Dessert was a disappointment—tasted old. On a better note the service was Superb!!
Very nice atmosphere. Some issues with our order, but service was good.
Michael was our server and was great. Very informative and knowledgeable. Dani was the server assistant and was wonderful as well. Very helpful. The food was fantastic!
Great view, good food, good wine, and good friends to enjoy it with. We had a very enjoyable evening. Our server was attentive and we were not rushed. An assistant server brought out our drinks and when the primary server noticed that the wrong glasses were used he immediately offered to have the drinks replaced.
Second visit. First was a "date night" and was the experience was exceptional. So we came back with our adult children looking forward to the "Grand Plateau" seafood special as part of our holiday celebration. We intended the Grand Plateau to be a heavy app of cold shellfish for all four of us. But for $99, the portions were paltry. Presentation was uninviting, just tiny piles of crab and lobster above a scattering of raw shellfish that scarcely covered 1/3 of the ice on the platter. Absolutely no "wow" factor. Nothing "Grand" about it. Very disappointing. Other courses were OK but nothing special. Service and bar were fine. We like the quiet ambiance compared to the noisy Catch 31 next door. If you come, stick to the kitchen entrees and avoid the seafood bar selections. There are other fine dining options in this town that deliver far more "wow" for the high price. Not coming back anytime soon.
Fantastic food and ambiance. Slightly pricey for what you get, but great service and food.
Exceptional service and made an anniversary dinner even more memorable.
Excellent raw oysters and lobster bisque. Attentive staff and great view!
Nice evening. Great food.
This is one of the nicest restaurants I've ever been in. From the outstanding service to the menu and amazing food, I cannot say enough about how impressed I was. I was in the private dining room
I was alone but it would be an excellent place for a romantic dinner date or birthday dinner.
A VERY uneven dining experience. Touted as the areas only 4 Diamond award winning steakhouse in the area (FYI its now listed as a 3 on AAA website) you expect cutting edge cuisine, fanciful cocktails and a curated, well inventoried wine list. What we got was NOT that.
SERVICE: Our waiter was fine. He was personable, friendly and helpful. Management however left him hanging when there were not 1 but 2 issues, both relating to wine during our meal (more info to follow). Both times our waiter had to apologize for wine menu and service issues despite it not being his fault, a manager or better yet the sommelier would be more apt to deal with wine issues yet none ever showed.
DRINKS: I was given their wine list, picked out a bottle and was presented a different vintage than the one on the list. I understand vintages can be substituted however the two vintages were vastly different in quality add that to the fact you have an electronic wine list and the error never should have happened. Despite the issue, I accepted the bottle and we proceeded on with our meal. The restaurant also had a extensive dessert/port/fortified wine list by the bottle as well... Or so I was lead to believe. Come to find out they will not serve the bottle I requested; only glasses. The point of purchasing the bottle was to have a fresh, not previously opened, non oxidized wine, BTG options don't allow for that. If you cannot offer something, remove it from your electronic and dynamic menu.
FOOD: The steaks were great. Well seasoned, cooked appropriately and arrived hot. The sides (creamed spinach and sauteed mushrooms) came devoid of seasoning and arrived lukewarm at best. This is despite the fact the restaurant had us and one other table seated in Salacia and a much less than half full dining room in Catch 31.
Uneven dining experience for something that offered much more.
I absolutely loved the atmosphere. The crab cakes are amazing. Definitely coming back.
Unbelievable dining experience! Tremendous food - outstanding service - very relaxed and romantic. We couldn't have asked for a better meal in a better establishment. We have been going to Catch 31 for years, and absolutely Loving it - but the Salacia just takes it to the next amazing level. I believe we were actually in the 3rd Heaven for crying out loud....!!
Thank you Salacia staff!
Upscale dining with interesting menu choices, classy ambiance, attentive, professional service and wonderfully delicious food. A bit pricey but worth it for "date night" and special occasions.
Good atmosphere, food was delicious.
The private dining room is perfect for a romantic evening. We were celebrating our engagement. This is definitely a special occasion restaurant. The lamb chops were perfect!
Service was amazing! Spent more than expected but food was good.
Food delicious, service impeccable! However, $19 for a glass of house cab was way too high. After the meal, I ordered a decaf coffee & my wife a decaf tea. However, the waiter returned to inform my wife there was no decaffeinated selection, nor a plain black tea or a lemon selection. Suggestion...if you're a plain tea drinker, bring your own tea bags!
We had dinner here 6 years ago after we were married. We try to cone back for our Anniversary. The food and service is exceptional
Was very excited to finally try Salacia after numerous glowing reviews from friends and family. The service was superb but my ribeye was mediocre at best - for those going, I would opt for seafood! The potato side was divine, would highly recommend. My only complaint is that it was incredibly dark in the restaurant - everyone who came in had to use their phones to read the menu (even myself at 29 years old).
Wedding anniversary love this restaurant and the service is remarkable
Service was very good. My husband really liked his steak and my scallops were great. Might have helped to know we did not need 2 side dishes-they’re huge. As for upscale dining on the oceanfront-this is a great choice.
Disappointed overall. The steak quality was good enough but the dessert, salad and crab cakes were substandard. Service was fair but not top notch. I was hoping for better quality.
Best steak I've ever eaten, will definitely be coming back and will recommend to others.
Delicious Oysters Neptune. My Delmonico Ribeye was cooked perfectly and tasted soooo good. Be back next year.
The food was overall pretty good but the ambiance was a bit frenetic. The wait staff was not attentive. We finished our appetizer before the waiter brought appetizer plates. The staff walked through the dining room with a basket of dirty laundry. We weren’t offered fresh pepper for our soup or meals and had to wait a good 5 minutes after being served for salt and pepper. The time between courses was too long. We did enjoy the lobster bisque and scallops. The ribeye steak was underwhelming for the price. For the price I wouldn’t choose to go back again.
Made reservation for my fiancé’s birthday. The dinner and the service was excellent. The food delicious and graciously portioned. They made a special occasion very special.
Amazing food and service tonight!!
We chose Salacia for our Anniversary Dinner and had a fantastic experience. Our waiter was impeccable and the seating was ideal. The food was excellent.
Absolutely phenomenal dining experience. The staff was top notch, service was excellent at all stages, and everyone was super friendly. The food was amazing, especially the scallops and lobster bisque.
